Indian classical music and especially Carnatic music is essentially devotional in nature. Removing devotion from Carnatic music and making it an exercise of technical excellence and brilliance, ragas and gamakas, vocal gymnastics etc is like the leopard changing its spots. While all the above mentioned aspects of Carnatic music are much needed metrics and one shouldn’t devalue their importance but they are all essentially meant to achieve the ultimate goal of devotion, connecting with inner self and union with the divine. Wonderful to see that Sivasriji is highlighting this essential aspect of Carnatic music. May the great lord Venkateshwara continue to bless her. 🙏

Now doubt, IR is a great music director of films, when we talk about classical music, IR is nowhere near many stalwarts of classical music. Smt MSS, MLV, DKP, Chembai, MPS, Dr M Balamurali etc etc list is very long. Mentioning of IR is irrelevant. Mr. G Ramanathan, Subburaman, KV Mahadevan etc are given more classical tunes in tamil/Telugu movies. I have nothing against IR. I am a big fan of IR restricted to movies .
