Y'all have such a surface level of understanding when it comes to debating concepts and showcasing of intelligence when arguing with the use of systems and connections. And this isn't me being upset, so relax. But it's disappointing to see this surface level take. The debates gave him a sense of self because he felt as though he could out-articulate and receive, process, break down and manipulate given information about ANYTHING, not just anime-but even if it was it wouldn't matter because it's in concept, and beyond what it is on the surface-better than majority if not all debaters he's come across. The same way he can debate things that require real world calculations and understandings of physics, story telling, philosophy etc etc but applied through the fictional work of someone, is the same way he can debate all of what those concepts were applied to separately. And he felt as though, simply put, he was far more intelligent than the average and even advanced person. It's not just "I debate anime characters" that's such a bad take
