I just got back into coasters through great channels like this one after not havinfgone to my home park (sfga) in 15-20 years. I tried to check it out, but the vast majority of the park is not on street view. To everyone - is your home park on street view?

I’ve never been to SFMM and to see that they removed a monorail is kind of disappointing. They really could’ve made a resort their by putting in a resort hotel and having the monorail connecting the hotel to the amusement and water parks. That could’ve been like the thrill seeker resort to compete with Universal and Disney.

Can you really imagine six flags running a resort? All the rooms would be "closed" and they'd serve Johnny rockets food there.

It wasn't like a fancy Disney monorail. It was the same as Hershey Park. When they closed it they sold parts and remaining trains to Hershey.

I remember coming for my 2nd visit after 14 years in 2019 and being overwhelmed by the amount of new rides and west coast racers had just soft opened. This parks lineup is criminally underrated. It is loads top depth.

I went to the park two days ago after having gone in 2014. The park is definitely adding many rides, but some of the older stuff is honestly some of the best they have. It’s a park with great rides but some things hold it back.

You are not the only one who loves the parks history. It amazes me the things that have changed in such a short amount of time. I look forward to the many new changes the park will have in the future. On a side note, a shopping area at the top of the mountain as well as a new restaurant overlooked the park from the location of the old pizza restaurant would be an awesome addition.

I've been going to SFMM since like 2002 and I don't remember the Monorail track at all. That's wild. You just hit me with a wave of nostalgia that made me miss Moosburger Lodge! 😔 Also surprised you didn't mention the ride right there where you'd stand against the wall and it would just spin. I always loved riding that. Normally you can only ride a "gravitron" type ride at a fair.

As someone whose home working location is Chop Six, I have to say thank you for enjoying our food! Our restaurant tends to get a mixed rep amongst the culinary workers of Six Flags due to it's hectic and largely faced paced environment, especially on Saturdays; so to hear that you guys actually enjoy the food we cook makes me feel reassured!

I was there on March Friday the 18th and honestly i am happy with some of the changes where they needed to be made. That said, i think one of the things that they could have added to the new Underground area would be some much needed shade because when i was there in late July 2021, the blacktop made everything so much more unbearably hot and even tho when i went the 18th, it was in the low 80s and i could still feel that its much warmer than anywhere else in the park. Also i really hope they get to make some adjustments to the now defunct buildings dedicated to old moving systems or restaurants.

Thank you for posting! I recent returned to the park this year after maybe a 15 year hiatus. Much has changed over the decades as my first visit when I was 7 or 9’years… before most of you were born and before Revolution and Colossus was there… yea I am that old. As I walk thru the midways and paths I recognize areas that have changes and some have remained. For instance. The enterance for Revolution today is what it used to be when it first opened. But in the 80s the entrance changed to the top near the entrance to what is X2 and near that pizza place. There used to be tilt a whirl ride up there as well. I kinda like that the entrance is back to the original. I love that the big fountain at the front of the park is still there. There was a area called back street where the flat rides like Enterprise and spin out used to be and I think before omit was Cyclone Bay it was Spilikan Corners. At Samari Summit used to be Magic Pagoda. It’s that abandoned building with that stone archway staircase that they use for a maze for Fright Fest. I am sorry that Sky Tower is closed I definitely snd probably permanently because of the elevator not being up to code. I heard it will cost millions of dollars to get it up to code and more millions to take the structure down completely. So it just stands abandoned. That’s a shame because it’s the one thing that I remember from childhood! You saw that tower on the 5 fwy and you knew you were almost there!

Interesting video! My very first visit to the park was in summer 2010 so this is pretty representative of how the park has changed since I started going. They've really made so many improvements over the last decade. I think the only downside is they have lost many, many trees. Particularly throughout Ninja's layout and Full Throttle.
@ytcomment4242

I found it interesting how often you mentioned trees being removed. I mainly go to Cedar Point and so much of the natural shade there is long gone. Is this a trend at a lot of amusement parks? I know it's a lot more work to take care of trees, especially keeping them trimmed along rides, but it sure is nice to have them.

That was interesting to see how much has changed over the years at my home park. Also something I noticed that was in the older pictures was the pumpkin lights they used to put on the light post during fright fest. I don't recall seeing those in a long time so I think they don't use them anymore. It was interesting to see what they used to do for fright fest in some of those older picture from 2011. Just that event alone has changed so much over the years.

the first time i went to magic mountain was some time in the summer or autumn of 2011, around when Green Lantern opened, and 2012 was the year I went the most (one day my dad picked me up from school and we just decided to go on an impulse for a few hours), so even though I continue to go, that google maps time capsule is the way it is in my mind's eye. This is really cool. Despite living in L.A. my whole life, I never went to Magic Mountain growing up. It wasn't until I started working there last year that I actually stepped foot inside the park. I've been into parks for years, I just never had the opportunity to hit up the closest one to me. Getting to see an entire walkthrough of it from 11 years ago is really cool though. I do almost feel some nostalgia for the old park. Pretty much the whole thing has changed since then. The rides themselves are the only things that are the same. Those paths though, are almost unrecognizable. It's kind of funny how different they look considering the fact that the park does a good job of "preserving" the buildings they don't use anymore. I would have thought it was just paint and polish, but really - from the looks of the photos - they've gutted and replaced almost everything, save from the southwest quadrant of the park. Super cool video.

I've never been to Six Flags Magic Mountain. It was just Magic Mountain when I was there back around 1979. The most interesting view from the full operational observation tower that day was the forest fire within visible distance that had a park closure as a real possibility (which didn't happen) all day long. So of course, lots of stff in your "Earlier" portion of the video was new to me. Need to get back there sometime. Cheers!

Maybe it's nostalgia speaking but I miss the old look to the park. It almost feels too barren and less welcoming to me without the log ride waterfront and the big tree in front. With the housing project going on behind the park now and the top of the hill cut away, much of that feeling of immersion, and isolation from the rest of Santa Clarita is gone. Maybe getting some shade trees in the underground would help with that but as of now, my absolute favorite area in the park (in terms of theming) is back by Tatsu and Roaring Rapids. I really hope that when the inevitable face lift comes, they don't change it too much. Just a slight touch up to the buildings is all that I really think is needed to make that section really magical again.

I've gone to SFMM recently and I notice some wild west props were added around the tatsu area. Also, Roaring Rapids was still closed, I'm thinking they are planning to remodel that part of the area and give it a refresh including a storyline or an updated water attraction with roaring rapids. this may probably happen once DC universe and Wonder Woman are complete (or halfway complete). Something tells me that SFMM is planning to remodel the park the best way they can in response to the 50th anniversary.

I want to say the park really changed starting with Ninja in 1988. Prior to that it was a more balanced park. It had the monorail, antique cars, stunt shows, etc. But then they went Ninja, Viper, Psyclone, and so on and that seems about when they went roller coaster crazy. They just started removing everything and building roller coaster after roller coaster. Not sure if that was the best idea or not but here we are.

This is the most nestalgic video I’ve ever seen. I’ve been going to this park for so long I go every winter and summer and it’s my favorite park.

Gotta admit, even tho the rides are much better today, Magic Mountain had so much more life & activity going on when I was a kid back in the early 90's... The place was seriously like a carnival...

I started working at MM in 2011, and one of my favorite parts was seeing all the modern ruins of stuff that just hadn’t been taken out yet. It’s better for the brand to fully remove defunct construction but I liked looking back in time.

Like my hidden nuggets of SFMM video from 2 years ago. Park laziness = fun for history nerds

Should have kept Goalith, AKA Deja Vu at MM. Although if we get that launch, the pain was worth the reward!

Gold rusher is gone noooo! I remember everyone overlooked it, but it was a hidden gem of the park. I got to rid it 7 times back to back because no line. It will be missed

Ive done this before with my homepark (Slagharen), Google maps is like a portal back in time for themeparks. Id like to see more of these.

The CC decided that when Chris said "...Dinn wood coaster" it actually was "...didn't wood coaster" and based on popular opinion (no Dinn credits), I'm not sure that's entirely inaccurate.
