Six Flags Vs. Cedar Fair: Who Won 2024 Announcements?

Both Six Flags and Cedar Fair have recently unveiled their 2024 attraction lineups for all of their parks. Both chains have announced three roller coasters and a few other additions alongside them. This is the first time since 2020 that both chains have gotten a good haul of additions, so I thought it'd be a good idea to compare them, and see who has the brighter future given what we saw this year, and what we've heard from the companies.

The Great Escape always get neglected during the Anderson era. The good thing is that Selim is adding the first Gravity Group woodie in the chain for the park after removing the Alpine Bobsled

Just an FYI, Bobcat will be Great Escape's second ground up coaster. Boomerang was new when it was installed in 1997. Im certainly glad my home park is FINALLY getting something new because I thought for sure that Bobsleds former area would be sitting idle for years like Nightmare so I'm glad they at least got something. Would have preferred something longer and more thrilling but the industry is definitely moving towards family attractions for the most part. Overall pretty meh new attractions but I was expecting pretty much nothing from this CEO. Hopefully it won't be another 20 years until the next coaster...

I can say that the Ultra Surf is the perfect edtion for SFOG. They needed a launch coaster after losing Viper decades ago along with a missing spinning coaster that could've easily been filled if they had gotten a 4D Free Spin in 2020

I think what will be interesting is how quickly ride open. Six flags has had a couple hiccups the last couple years. This includes removing older rides. With Great Escape being my home park I will be watching to see how quickly Bobsled comes down. Dorney Is clear ahead for prepping the space where great Adventure hasn’t seemed to have started yet.

They still have ads for “rookie racer coming in 2023” up at St. Louis and it’s still not open and theyve stopped daily operation for the year. Now they’re already teasing their ride for next year too lol

i am probably most hyped for Europa parks Voltron which barely any one seems to be taking about. The whole of the uk currently has 3 new coasters planned for 2024 one will be the tallest in the UK one will be a intamin lift and launch coaster and the other is the zamperla lightning coaster

I would say Six Flags won tbh. Top Thrill 2 is great and all, but it's more or less a glorified coaster overhaul.

I would hate to disagree but I think Cedar Fair won. We are still waiting on an announcement from Knott's Berry Farm. They both got 3 coasters but I think I would like the Cedar Fair coasters more than the new Six Flags Coasters. Plus Cedar Fair is turning Planet Snoopy into Camp Snoopy at Kings Island and adding a water park attraction at Canada's Wonderland. They are also getting new things for Schlitterbahn in Texas.

I don't think people are going to consider TT2 a new coaster and I really hope it doesn't reset Cedar Points coaster clock. It's been since 2016 that they got a ground up Thrill Coaster

Whether it's ground up or not is irrelevant. Steel Vengeance is one of the top coasters in the world. TT2 will have even longer lines than the original, which was still very popular 15+ years after debuting.

There doesn't seem to be the (( BIG )) issues with OVER SEA INTAMIN'S , or KINGDA KA types outside of CEDAR FAIR ,, only intamin's at CEDAR FAIR PARKS ... MAYBE ITS THE MAINTENCE DEPT. AT CEDAR POINT that's the issue ???? WHAT ABOUT EXELORTOR ????? INTAMIN'S IN FERRARI LAND ????

Lol. Kingda Ka is down all the time, besides the fact it is like a paint shaker if not in the front row, worse the further back you are. El Toro was down most of the last 2 seasons. Skyrush has a bad reliability record at Hershey. I can keep going

You are correct 💯 it is not intamin or RMC that's the issue maintenance departments in the parks that need more training in honestly just more manpower.

When you take emotion or home park bias out of the mix, The winner is obviously Cedar Fair! and IT'S ALWAYS going to continue to be Cedar Fair! Six Flags did some surprising things, and for Six Flags parks that's great! it's like going to the Dollar store and you find a big juicy USDA PRIME Filet Mignon in the refrigerator😂 its awesome but after the initial shock, its still the dollar store! Six Flags has so many horrible parks and areas in their top-tier Parks like great adventure and Magic mountain that are horrible... the food, the staff, park atmosphere, cleanliness, it's just horrible! there's no getting around it, so yes Six Flags surprised us this year but Cedar Fair held true to form💯 Quality & consistency and Top Thrill 2 is no matter what anybody wants to say the greatest, biggest & best ride being added this next year and we'll see what happens with 2025 but Cedar fair is the awesome giant, and Six Flags is the small redheaded stepchild FACTS 💯

Six Flags wins in terms of new additions, Cedar Fair wins overall. Cedar Fair is killing Six Flags at the moment in term of income and profit while Six Flags is losing a lot of money. Part of the reason Six Flags is throwing so many flat rides into their parks now is to compete with Cedar Fair as they are more well rounded family parks and Six Flags tend to cater to coaster enthusiasts only.

Six Flags is known for adding something that is never seen to one of their parks while Cedar Fair doesn’t. Take SFOG for example, they’re set to open the world’s first Intamin Ultra Surf as their new 2024 coaster

Cedar fair won by a mile. They announced the worlds fastest multi launch coaster which is also over 400 feet in two separate spots and goes 120mph, a B&M dive coaster and a vekoma family boomerang. Six flags announced a clone, a clone, and a near clone minus one turn.

a clone doesn't mean a bad ride, most are exelent and tt2 is just a overhaul six flags definitely won, and you hate on clones but like a b&m dive coaster which is all just a bunch if elements copy'd over like if you have ridden 1 (besides some like oblivion) you have ridden all of them

The way Cedar Fair is going isnt good they announced a rebranded coaster with a gimmicky record and forceless dive and a cloned boomerang while Six Flags may have announced quite a bit of flat rides they still are changing up their strategy and improving their parks from within and at least they don't avoid working with a manufacturer till the end of time.

FYI, thoosies(2% of attendance) aren't how theme parks make their money so the constant thoosie whining over Intamin is hilarious & financial/business ignorant. As for where Cedar Fair and Six Flags are financially wasn’t what the question was about. I agree overall Cedar Fair has been ahead of Six Flags for quite awhile, but if they continue on their current paths, we will see a possible change in which parks become dominant.

They don't care how much you whine about them not using Intamin, that has been a disaster for them...2 rides ripped out after a few years, another ripped out well before it's life span in Volcano, continuous down time for other coasters, that's all before the TT accident. The future of a chain is all about financials, the fact you don't realize that tells me you don't understand the topic. Cedar Fair is running circles around Six Flags, Cf had a record revenue, ebidta, net income in 2022, Six Flags regressed to 2016/17 in revenue, ebidta, net income levels & lost 7.3M in attendance from 2021. 2022 is only going slightly better than the disaster of 2022 for SF. Cedar Fair's current path is a great long term business model of Seasons of Fun implemented since 2018, try listening to the 2H30M presentation, . In contrast, SF business model is failing again, it failed in 2008 bankruptcy. It failed in the late 2010's with high volume/low prices(no organic growth) hence their membership push. Memberships failed b/c they gave away too much for the price , thus stopped memberships. Selim's premiumization failed as he raised prices with no real improvements & their customers left in mass. Now he's capitulated to save his job & is doing everything he lamented, heavy discounts(Walmart customers as he called them), bring a friend days, catering to thrill seeking teenagers(he berated the parks being day care centers) , etc... He's desperate as the stock is floundering & he's under pressure from investors so he's going back to the Jim Reid Anderson model.

Same. I wish CF would give Intamin a second chance, but I also wish Six Flags had better food. Bun in terms of the better company based on ride additiions this year, definitely Six Flags since they work with Intamin:) I honestly don't know who was responsible for Top Thrill's incident. But I definitely think it was BOTH companies that were involved in my opinion. Hopefully one say CF can work with Intamin again 💙💙😢

@@IntaminFanGRLPowerCoasters Intamin has been a F8cking disaster for Cedar Fair. Are you 10 years old & don't know the history? They have had to rip out 2 rides after a few years & also had to rip out Volcano well before its life span. Top thrill & Xcelerator have both been extreme headaches, even before the Top thrill accident. The other rides have also been very unreliable with massive downtime like Maverick. It doesn't matter if a ride is good when it's down a lot.

Before commenting actually know & read the case. The plaintiffs suit was filed against Cedar Fair & Intamin. During the prelim the plaintiff was able to obtain correspondence between both companies & Intamin recommended a different maintenance schedule citing that in 2020 since the ride ran less cycles than a normal year. It's not blame by Cedar Fair they were cited as dual defendants by the plaintiff as that's how the plaintiff can possibly get the most money.

@@grobble8954 well I'm 28 for one thing and and secondly this is early 2000 intamin coaster and thirdly I think cedar fair bit off more then they could chew which could have been the down fall of the relationship and the of them same with RMC and steel vengeance but that just my thoughts on the matter the intamin we know now is much different during their early years and made some changes to make their coaster more reliable

Covid pushed back a lot of additions. Valleyfair is going to work on a lot in terms of the parks infrastructure, bathrooms etc. They're "setting the table" for a new major investment as of this past winter. The park just couldn't handle the amount of people a new coaster would bring rn. Expect something in 25/26. The current new rides cedar fair is bringing in were probably slated for like 2021,22, and 23.
