Actually, dulce de leche isn't just an ice cream flavoring, it's a confection from latin America, (the name literally translates to "sweet of milk") made by slowly heating sweetened condensed milk for a few hours, until all of its sugars melt giving it a caramel-like color and consistency, and it's used for all kinds of desserts not just ice cream ;).

The PSU Creamery has the best ice cream in the world. It's the only place I've ever been where my favorite flavors weren't some variety of chocolate. Apple Cobbler Crunch and Carrot Cake were AMAZING, but I was on campus back in the late 80s, so I don't even know if they have those flavors anymore. I hope so ...

They're smoothies and milkshakes. Several scoops of ice cream, with other ingredients probably. For a smoothie or milkshake from a family owned store, with homemade ice cream (I'm assuming), that price is pretty normal.

For those who don't know, Dulce de leche is not exactly caramel, toffee or chocolate. You can make it by burning condensed milk until browns. There are different levels of brown and the flavour changes a bit. Definitely, it doesn't taste like caramel. And it's my favorite too >
