Got a X100vi in Feb 24 (with the weather kit); first X100 series camera. I do, however, use a XT5 so not my first foray into Fujiland. Great tips. I agree, one has to understand the AF system and settings and apply them correctly. I have MF+AF off and do not use subject detection. I prefer to place the small green box on the subject myself and find this to be fast and accurate. As you say, bottom line - it is a fun camera to use.

Thanks for that. I’ve found with subject detection, if there’s more than one, it can and probably will jump around on you. Gonna start placing the box on the subject myself. That’s how I’ve preferred to shoot with my other cameras.

Wonderful, and hoping this Channel would grow. All the best !

I'm not surprised the camera had trouble focussing on the toy at 4.03 in - when you reduced the focus area, you made it entirely black. Any camera would struggle if you do that.

Great video! I have been using both Sony and Fuji for a few years now (A74/XT-5/X100vi). I agree that the Fuji AF is not on the same level as Sony, but if you haven’t already, do make sure that you are putting the camera In “boost” mode (in Menu - wrench icon>power management>performance>boost). This allows the camera to use the full functionality of the AF system and for some reason is not on by default out of the box.

Just put it in boost mode! Thanks for the tip. I haven't seen that anywhere else.

Hey again, gotta say, that's one cute kid! I remember those days myself: There is no way I could have lugged around the amount of gear I now drag with me everywhere when I was toting around a diaper bag. I did have a professional SLR (film) camera and some nice lenses and a 120 box, but they pretty much went into storage until my kid was almost ten. I found your channel about a year ago when I was deciding on e-mount prime and zoom lenses. At the time I was saving for the A74, but then Sony announced the A6700, and I bit on that instead. But I'll bet the Fuji is perfect for capturing high-quality, prime-lens-like images without all the bulk.

Absolutely! Only took a few trips out of the house for me to realize that a smaller but still high-quality option would fit dad life a lot easier.

I’ve been shooting Fuji for a couple years. I tried shooting jpeg only, then jpeg + raw. But I’ve finally landed on shooting raw only. It just gives me more flexibility and I don’t have extra files to deal with. Capture One is my editing software of choice and they partnered with Fuji to create the film simulations accurately in the software. I usually just set the camera to Astia as a starting point, which in my opinion is the best all around film simulation as it has great skin tones. But then I may change it once I’m in Capture One depending on the situation.
@ChrisHagan
@ChrisHagan 4 ай бұрын
I’ve done that with a few raws in Lightroom. Sounds similar to Capture One, but you can set the color profile to any film simulation the camera has. I’ll probably experiment more with it when I do some hiking this summer and attempt some landscape photos.

@@ChrisHaganCool. Yeah, Capture One has that same functionality where you can choose any film simulation that the camera has. Btw, there was a time not long ago when Capture One was said to be better than Lightroom for Fuji users. (Search “Fuji Lightroom Worms”) But I think Lightroom has addressed this issue, and both software packages yield similar results and have similar functionality at this point.

I think the Fujifilm X app works really well to transfer photos to my phone. I know not everyone agrees but a great feature with the x100vI is the ability to connect directly to a cellphone through usb-c to transfer photos quickly.
@ChrisHagan

The app is definitely A LOT better than Sony’s when it comes to connecting, at least with my A7 IV. I usually carry one of those SD card dongles that I can connect to my phone and transfer straight to my photo library.

@@ChrisHagan I have no issues with the Sony app to transfer from my a7iv. I don’t know why people dislike the apps so much. I only transfer about 10-15 at a time so not sure if that is it.

@@jamesbarron5590 It’s been hit or miss for me across multiple firmware versions. There's always the chance it's user error lol, but connecting and staying connected is always a pain, even when I'm following every step to the letter.

Awesome video, thanks for posting. I have a question regarding the new 5th generation sensor. Are there any improvements besides the pixel count? Some youtubers mentioned that new sensor has more vivid and punchier colors versus 4th gen with more flat and muted output. I narrowed down to XS20 and XT50, but 26 megapixels is more than enough for me. On the other hand, if new sensor has batter output, I want it to get one. I plan to use Jpeg with film simulations.

I never used the previous sensor. But I’ve read similar things, especially that blues are punchier on the newer sensor. There are a lot of recipes already that are adjusted for the X100VI / XT50. I was attracted to the VI after seeing the colors from the V and haven’t been disappointed, so I think either of the last two generations of sensors will do you well. 40mp has been nice for cropping, especially when I want to crop into a landscape shot and make it 9x16 for social media, but even with 26mp there’s plenty of room to crop and still post a sharp image.

Fuji JPEGs (HIEF) are so good, I have stopped shooting RAW. I used to just in case, but then I never saw those RAW files. Exposure/WB can be edited pretty well on JPEG/HIEF and Fuji colors don’t need to be edited.

And you know... since I finished editing this, I've found more of an everyday recipe that works for me, and I definitely see your point there. There's really nothing I'd change with 99% of them.

@@joeygug613 Sure! It’s based off one that Mike Chudley did for the X100V, but I tweaked the highlights and shadows a bit since I shoot with a 1/4 Black Pro Mist filter. I’ll list the original recipe with my changes in parentheses. If you go check out my Instagram page @hagantv, the most my post from today and story were both shot with that recipe. How's the viewfinder on the Fuji?
@ChrisHagan
@ChrisHagan 4 ай бұрын
OVF and EVF are both solid. Kind of indifferent to me, neither bad nor amazing. I think it’s a personal preference, but I usually go with the EVF so to have a better idea of the image. It’s also worth the few minutes it takes to adjust the brightness on the viewfinder and LCD screen. I found the LCD to be bright by default. So images that I thought were properly exposed came out a bit underexposed.
