Preparing the night before is a game changer. I do everything from weigh and mill grains, collect and treat water, and weigh out hop additions in mason jars with time-labels that I put in the fridge. Brew day then just consists of pressing some buttons, setting some timers, and playing video games during down time! Clean-up is still a chore but that just kinda is what it is in this hobby 🤣

I don’t do any preparation the night before. The longest wait comes from heating the water. The first step is getting out the kettle and filling it with water. While heating for the mash, I can get all my equipment out from the basement.My all grain brew start to finish with 1hr mash and 1hr boil is 4-4.5 hr s. I agree with cleaning as you go. Definitely saves on cleanup time.

I do a no chill method because my place doesn't let me run hoses for an immersion chiller and I don't have the sink space for my kettle. I'm also playing with using a wifi connected sous vide immersion circulator to do a raw ale with a step mash without having to go down to my garage more than a couple of times for a few minutes throughout the day. This made my last brew day pretty hands off while I took care of my son.

Oh that sahti! 👌 Great tips. My other favorite seems a bit counter productive but for really big mashes I like to mash overnight. Dial in the temp, pour in the grains, then go to bed. Next morning you can jump straight to boil.

All great tips. Kind of an addendum to the short mash, we like to do a no-sparge mash and take the hit to efficiency on lower grav beers. Saves time and having to add more malt= more malt flavor on beers like pilsners and bitters.

My biggest time saving advice for brewers is to do extract if you don't want to spend a ton of time and get good beer. I understand some may like all grain better but I have been brewing since my kids were newborns and time is a premium with two newborns, infants, or toddlers. I have been doing extract since I started and most recently was able to brew my last batch, on the stove, while cleaning up the house after putting the kids to bed.
@TheBruSho

That’s a valid point, extract still makes good beer and shaves a lot of time off brew day!

Awesome time saving tips. I've been doing partial mashes. Heating up the main kettle to a boil while mashing/steeping in a smaller kettle on the stove. Then add the Extract and mash wort at the same time to the boiling water. Shaves 20-30 minutes off my brew day. Just recently discovered Kveik... I am so excited to try this yeast.

I always try to prep the night before, and since I do all grain using traditional manner (HTL, mash tun, and boil kettle), I use downtime between steps to get ahead of cleaning. Cheers!

Start with hot water - I've found that using cold/ cool water from the tap ~ 60-70 degree F ~ so much longer to heat than if I max out the hot water from the tap ~120F. Like an hour different. Like dump out the water and do it again different. The whole leave the water out overnight is a little scary in that regard. Then again my tap is pretty great water.

Trent! Happy St Patrick’s Day! This video really helped me have one of the best brew days I’ve had so far. Everything was ready to go and it was just making sure everything for the actual brew went smoothly. Second, I stirred my hot wort while cooling with an immersion chiller. I’d never stirred during cooling before but I did it this time and I saved about 20 minutes and about 40 gallons of water. Stirring the wort vigorously while cooling brought everything down in about 10 minutes…fastest id ever accomplished. Ultimately though, getting everything ready as much as I could the night before saved me so much time and headaches during todays brew day, I just wanted to say thank you for the good advice. Know that you’ve at least gotten one brewer to be better at the craft thanks to your advice. Appreciate it! Keep the videos coming

Nice bro! Thanks for the video. Super helpful. Only thing I can add is pre heating strike water. I use natural gas burner for my main heat, but I have a 120v hot rod heat stick. I plug up my heat stick the night before , into a WiFi plug. The plug is scheduled to turn on about an hour before I get up to brew. That way my strike water is at temperature when I get up- or at least very close. Cred to Brulosophy for that tip.

Thanks Trent for another great video! I never thought to do prep the night before, good idea. Can I add my salts to the water while it sits overnight? I'm assuming thats a yes since its just minerals. One thing I do to save time: I rinse everything when I'm done with it on a brew day, rather than clean. Then the next available time, I will soak everything in PBW, this mostly happens the next day, and it saves me a lot of time on a brew day because I can usually only brew at night. FYI: if you are going to go to a counter flow chiller, be aware that you will need to play with the valves on the flow chiller as well as on the kettle to get the flow just right in order to cool down the wort quickly. The downside to a counter flow chiller is cleaning the inside where the wort flows through. Sure, it cools down your wort faster but the time you are saving, is then transferred to cleaning since you have to ensure the side where the wort flows is clean before your next use. On top of cleaning, you have to ensure that all the cleaning solution you use is actually pushed out so you don't accidentally leave any behind...it can be a pain but you do save a lot of time on wort chilling. Cheers!
@TheBruSho
@TheBruSho 2 жыл бұрын

I think 2 other brew day time saving tips are right in front of you, and you didn't even mention! Do BIAB to reduce the number of vessels you deal with and do no sparge to cut out the sparge step. I've spent a lot of time thinking of ways to save/shift brew day time, and those are two huge ones! Another huge one is to lay off the drinking until the beer is in the fermenter. Another one, that costs money is to rely on electric systems to have your strike water ready mash in as soon as you enter your brewery to start brewing!

I keep 50lb sack of 2 row on hand and then a few different specialty grains as well as a variety of hops so I can throw a simple IPA recipe together if I want to brew at the spur of the moment.
