On how to approach the meditation, what would TNH say? if you have a strong thought or feeling, you would start from the beginning and methodically work your way through all the points or you go faster to the relevant points, e.g. 9,10,11 12? Some experience?

The teachings are wonderful, but I still don’t know how to do the practice. I meditate on the breath, mind wonders, I come back to the breath, repeat. But how do I water the good seeds? Am I supposed to think a particular way? Say something specific to myself? Is there another teaching here that shows you what to do? Suggestions gratefully received 💚🙏🌱

Ajahn Sona said you have to create those feelings. They are not just gonna come by themselves. Effort is needed. Buddha calls it Right Effort the 6th path factor of Noble Eightfold Path. In the beginning your efforts will create a seed of joy and compassion. You may not feel them because they are just seeds and are not grown. You have to water those seeds until they become big enough for harvesting. Buddha calls it Gardening of your mind. First you need to get rid of the weeds known as 5 Hindrances (Desire, Anger, Laziness, Restlessness and Skeptical Doubt). Then you have to remove the roots of the Hindrances which are the 10 Fetters (Beliefs in self or identity, attachment to body, beliefs, opinions etc. Attachment to anger and objects of sense pleasures. etc. Be aware of the cessation of hindrances and more). Then you can start planting seeds of joy and compassion. Wait for them to grow.

People, this teaching was not invented by Thay, it is the Anapanasati Sutta from the Buddha. The Buddha employed these 16steps on the night of his awakening. If you look up the Sutta and practice, you will be doing skillful things in the Dhamma.

In fact Thay mentions a number of times that they are teachings of the Buddha. Strange comment from the OP. Maybe they only want the Buddha to teach these practices@@user-mc9ec4kx8t

It's dangerous to do any kind of breating technique. Some are very intense and people who are not very settled with their mind and/or emotions, become mentally ill. So beware what you tell others here ("skillful"). -> In buddhist traditions there are paths to follow like guidelines because of that. Beginners should always start with basic practices. Like in every Sport or other skill. Starting with advanced stuff and you will probably fail and loose happiness and interest.

Buddha's warning that only few people know: < Don't believe anything before you have witnessed it yourself> Apologies to the reverent Buddhists who praised this monk. The following words are only for Buddhists who sincerely seek Supreme Liberation: If this monk knows the Buddhist Nature, please share it, if not, please continue reading... The world is a fantasy, whether Good or Evil, whether Righteous or Evil, whether Holy or Mortal, whether Sangha or Ordinary, Good or Bad Luck, is just the phenomenon of birth and death of the world of particulars, both the body and the sensory consciousness... i.e. ethereal flowers ... are all lessons to awaken oneself from samsara in the dream realm, which is the Buddhist's goal, not to hide from unhappy afflictions and seek lowly petty happy satisfactions. All karmas are self-inflicted, all year round hearing all the falsehoods from the mouths of others, committing yourself to the sheep's duty, praising flattery and fetishism prove nothing, how can you see the salvation yourself, even once... Today's monks, some of whom are also endowed with the title of Zen Master, most of them preach what they interpreted the Dharma according to their own opinions or from the sutras, just as Christian missionaries or philosophy teachers specialized in Buddhist teachings, have nothing to do with the True Nature of Buddha. They are just nerds, sitting cool, eating countless bowls of porridge offered from the worshippers, just to gather knowledge, sooner or later that knowledge will dissolve with their flesh and bones. Mercifully... for Buddhists ... the blind follows the blind ... PAINTED CAKE, EMPTY WORD The catchy title draws viewers in, but we don't need to know the content of the clip. The sole purpose of Buddhism is to escape life and death. Liberation is to witness one's own truth, or Buddha Nature, and to live with it in all daily activities, besides, all external scriptures, teachings, and philosophies are mere empty words, and every form of cultivation is a farce. Buddha is formless by nature. The Way is inherently pathless. Not knowing own Mind Fall into the Mara’s trap! 3 repeated copies, the original truth is no longer the truth. The Buddha's teachings speak only half the truth. After being written into scriptures and translated into many languages, the other half is missing, so the sermons, analysis, commentaries, are just clichés … The teacher who is good at teaching, not Buddhist monk. a. If anyone should see me through form b. Or see me through sound c. Such a one walks on the wrong road d. Anh would never see the Tathagata The religion that does not lead to self-liberation, not Buddhism. Cultivating in the sound and form for general hearing, thinking and remembering is the practice of the Evil Way. Buddhism must be authenticated by Buddha... What is Buddha? Meditation can only transmit from Mind to Mind... What is mind? Monks have a talent for drawing a cake that they themselves had never eaten. Due to being hungry and eat their painted cake, how can you be full? In the same way, because of experiencing many afflictions of suffering, closing your eyes and ears believing in the EMPTY words from the mouth of the greedy monk who fills his stomach with stolen knowledge, that cannot be used, like the novice's interpretation to children, how can you get rid of the affliction of suffering? Finally, the Buddha said, "In 49 years long of preaching the Dharmas, I have never said a word about the Way." So, are there any words in the scriptures or from the mouths of monks are true? Only the Way within us is the True Way, that cannot deceive us. Be confident in yourself, you are your teacher, called ‘Own Master’.

Thay practiced Buddhism walking mindfully through the American war in Vîetnam. And he is not ranting, sensless, hissing, angry, and arrogant like you. Peace on your healing journey.

@@Growing4LovePeace My opinions about this monk, not about you, or anyone other than him, you don't need to be so angry about my opinions. Besides, if he were still alive, and I had the opportunity to meet him face to face, he would be astonished if I pointed out if he was really a Zen master or a Buddhist monk. But surely your condemnations of me prove nothing about his hollow philosophies. What I'm writing here is only for Buddhists seeking liberation or the Truth, if you're not one of them, you don't need to bother, none of your business, anyway.
