My girlfriend always makes fun of me because when i get a new pair of RWs for work or casual, i dont wear them outside for about 2 weeks and instead wear them when im in the house. I’ll be walking around in my underwear with my socks and boots lol. But hey, it works

Good advice on wearing them at work before hitting the pavement. Even then I wore my new 8883’s outside prematurely and have destroyed my heels. Hoping it’s actually worth the bloodshed. 😂

Let me tell you from experience. I bought first my first pair a little less than a year ago. When I purchase them from Red Wing store they gave me the cleaning kit along with the leather conditioner. Well if you want your boots to get darker used leather conditioner if you don't want your boots to get darker use leather boot cream. My boots turned a dark mahogany color. They didn't look bad, but I didn't spend $300 to have my boots look that color. I took them back to Red Wing and they exchanged them for a new pair of 1907 copper color. I have now applied booking and they have not gotten darker they stay the same color. Just a word of advice. Overall the best pair of boots I've ever worn

I just got a pair of 1907s and I immediately treated them with mink oil, I’m going to wash them with saddle soap in about 2 weeks, but I mildly wore them yesterday out to pick up takeout and my girlfriend from work, my feet were a little sore but we went into a store and I walked and they weren’t as bad as I thought they were gunna be. I wear an 11 in modern work boot brands and 10.5EE in my 1907s. I love them already can’t wait until they are broken in.
@whereRbearsTeeth
@whereRbearsTeeth 6 ай бұрын
Why would you wash a two week old pair of boots with saddle soap?? Saddle soap should only be used when absolutely necessary for a really, really soiled pair of boots. Otherwise it’s totally unnecessary and ends up pulling the oils and waxes out of the leather.
@5upgunplay551
@5upgunplay551 2 жыл бұрын
This is how I do it: I lather them with oil to soften for the first 2 week- YES I KNOW. It darkens leather, but after 2 weeks I wash with saddle soap and dry them in the shade. That strips the oils and makes the leather lighter. Wear for another 2 weeks WITHOUT TREATING THEM. after that use leather conditioner and it will be a beautiful patina already. Trust me.

I’m right at one month with my 1907s. I wear them daily and am on my feet all day. My job is definitely “white collar” but casual enough to wear my boots with denim pants. The fit is way better now, sneaker comfortable if not better. I did find that my right foot took longer to break in than the left. I also experienced the same rub on the top knuckles of my toes in the beginning.

Did he just say you’ll get a good year out of the outsole?. That is just ridiculous. To spend all that money on a pair of boots to then have have them resouled . I have seen many people adding a different and more durable soul on ttheir Moc Toes. That’s why I can bring myself to buying these even at $100 savings . They are nice though.

My first pair of heritage mocs were extremely comfortable from the get go, that was roughly a year ago and they're the dark brown pair. Today my dad bought me a black pair for Christmas and I've been wearing them all day and they killed my feet. There are a lot of different reasons that could be but this time around I'm definitely not going to break them in by just wearing them every day lol

Try lexol leather conditioner it doesn’t darken the leather at all its a mild conditioner that my local cobbler recommend. I agree 💯% that the 1907’s are easier to break in than the 875’s and when they do get properly broken in they are much more comfortable as well.

I have the 875s and just recently got a pair of 8883s (1907 in darker leather). The break in on the 875s was fairly easy, not blisters or anything. The 8883s are a much tougher break in so far. I had the store place them on the stretcher for 20 ish minutes and can barely even tell. Already have nasty blisters on my L heel and R pinky toe knuckle. Moc toes are my favorite though my next par will be the 8 inch 877s

I'm still trying to break my moc toe's in. I can only take walking in them outdoors for 20 minutes or so before I have to call it quits. Its my heel that kills, because when I walk, my heels tend to slide up an down in the boot. Which is strange because my toes up front are super snug with no wiggle room, so I feel like the red wing salesman and me sized correctly...

The red wings store sized me an entire size smaller than I normally wear so I'm nervous that they're too small but if I go to a normal size they'll be too big. Maybe they're not right for me. This last is very different from the 23 last. They are wider, but not at the point where the first eyelet starts at the bottom. There they are quit narrow. Also the length differs from the 23 last. My 28.5 cm size is a bit shorter than the 28.5 cm of the 23 last. So be aware that they are certainly not bigger that the same size of the 875 or 8131 for example.

Kevy, hope you got a pair. I got my first pair at age 15 and they were a piece of cake to break in. My second pair in my early thirties were a little harder to break in but not not too bad. After a pack rat ate my second pair I now just bought my third pair and as I am in my mid-seventies it was like trying to break in a pair of bricks. So I think age is a factor in how people rate them in difficulty to break in. But a hundred miles later they feel pretty darn good and I suspect in another hundred miles they'll be just as good as the pair I wore for 40-plus years. Two pieces of advice, don't buy unless they put speed hooks on them at no charge, and use leather laces. I enjoy your shaving Channel.

Hi, Red Wings are much tougher to break in but will last a long time and take at least a couple of resoles... my experience of the thorogood mocs is that they are much more comfortable, but would not be worth resoling... my choice now is red wing!

I have both and I agree. The redwing leather is a bit thicker and nicer after break in. I definitely can go back and forth. Cant go wrong with either. But over time I started wearing the Thorogood 804-4308 because I get a little longer life out of the thicker heel and sole and just have been preferring to have a heel over a wedge lately. My biggest gripe about both the 875 and 4200 is the outsoles. Just get slick and thin way to quick.

The samething on the this 1907 Redwing with the thorogood is the sole,they made pretty much same wide,but othrrs redwing they made it with narrow soles wich don't help much when you walk uneven roads,also redwing are really xpensive but the thorogood you can get a pair of 814-4200 for less than 2 hundred bucks.
