Many reviews of the Redwing Christie soles or the Thorogood variant is that they wear down fast. To this point, and worth mentioning here is that the original christie sole was specifically created to ease foot pain from walking and working on concrete job-sites all day. Specifically, they were designed for carpenters and masons who at the time, were hand nailing, framing, or pouring and screening concrete on their feet non- stop for 8-10hrs straight. The boots were always intended to be resoled many times over, with the leather uppers continuing to last for years. Ultimately, Like many things, boot sole choices should depend on how and where you plan on using your boots. The lug soles that you moved to were created for greater grip for working and hunting on natural, slipping surfaces and logging. The original, American- made Irish Setter boots (since bought my Red wing and now sold as the lower boot made over seas) included an "upland bird hunting boot" that is a moc toe with the lugged soles (basically, what you have transitioned these into). Always remember that all of these types of boots were designed as "work boots" even though they have also become the latest fashion statement. thanks for the solid comparison here on yoru review.

I agree. Both boots look good, but that white Christie sole and the welt stitching on the 1907 makes the boot uniquely attractive. It’s the better looking of the two. That’s enough for me. I will be buying a pair. Thanks for the vid.

Ive been buying thorogood moc toes for about 10yrs now. I recently bought my first red wing moc (8146) and have found that red wing sizing is difficult for me. I measure at 12E so i tried a 12d on in the 8146 and the 1907. Both of them had my pinkie toes smashed in to and slightly on top of the toes next to them and my big toes were touching the end of the boots. They didnt have an EE width in stock so i went up to a 13D. I wasnt able to try the 1907 in the 13, but i think im going to have to buy a pair of the leather insoles for mine. The length is perfect as my big toe sits just behind the stitching of the moc toe on the end but now the boots feel a tad too wide. I really feel that RW needs to make a 12 1/2 for us big feet people. I love my 8146 but im not sure if their lasts are gonna work for my feet. I will give the 1907 a try before I make my final decision

I have gone for the 875 nevertheless. Just more classic last and don’t need the Norwegian stitching anyway. As for the wearing out of the soles, I had my cobbler glue a very very thin layer of white micro grooved vibram. Admit I have no traction challenge usage but the soles never wore out and most importantly never wore unevenly which would have caused major back issues.

I'm a fan of the style of the 1907's. I just wish the white sole lasted longer and had a bit more grip. The sole on my shoes is always the first thing to go since i have some weird walking patterns. I'll likely go for those and just plan on resoling but maybe in the future i'll get the roughneck version as well.

I have the 877s. They didn't need any break in at all. Comfortable from day one and I can ware them all day long. They are a bit warm in summer, and I agree ( true to size ). Great boots, I'd like to get the roughneck from Red Wing to use on non snowing days that are warmer and plowed. My Chippewa Arctic 50s are for major cold and snow. Something in the out sole rubber that grips ice in a way my 877s don't.

Sold. My 875’s have been fantastic. 10-20k steps per day for 2 years on commercial construction projects and the stitching is still looking great. The only really worn out part is the toe from working on my knees . I use boot cream on my boots to condition and keep the original color, it will not darken the leather. On sizing I go a full size down on 875,877, Iron Rangers and Blacksmith’s size 7.5 because they are a very low profile boots. On 1907’s a go a 1.5 sizes down because is a bulky boot. Love the 1907s. The original soles wear down a little fast I wear mine everyday for work and after work. When u go for a resole I go with a thicker little tougher sole. They sell a vibram Christie sole and the soles on the redwing 411 are more work wise bottoms. Take care of them and u will have em forever. And I like the leather insert as well. The leather laces are nice but I put the other laces in just feel like there better for work.
@Freedom89984
@Freedom89984 3 жыл бұрын
The 1907’s are in fact smaller in size and take much more time to break in. The leather is really tough, they keep their shape much longer, so don’t take them too small in width. The 1907 is the super moc toe, looks better on the foot (wider) but is in fact tighter in the same size as the other models from the moc toe family.

Your review made me feel way more certain about my decision to go with the 1907s when I first got them.… thank you. I originally went to my local RW store looking for the 875 but after finding that they didn’t have any in stock, decided on the 1907. I do still want to get the 875s at some point as I really love the Oro Legacy leather, but I don’t regret getting the 1907s at all. They are $309.99 here in America which makes them only $10 more than the 875 ($299.99USD). For that $10, you get the improved last, the Norwegian welt, the insoles that RW sells for $40 alone, and a secondary set of leather laces valued at $15. You can’t really go wrong with these. They were a great first pair of heritage boots for me with the insoles and roomier last. I do recommend for anyone breaking these in… remove the provided insoles for the first 2 months or so. As much as it sucks comfort wise, it’s a good idea to get the shoe sole (permanent leather and cork) to mold to the shape of your foot. You can always add the insoles back later on if you want the comfort, but they definitely do impede the shoe molding to your specific foot shape.
@drnaumanzafarkhan
@drnaumanzafarkhan Жыл бұрын
its not true Norwegian welt meaning that the outer/upper is not sewn to the inner layer or to the insole. The thread is just for the looks but yes it does drastically improves the looks and people who need waterproof shoes dont buy any of these anyway. So it does look awsome./

1907 is one of the best boots I've owned and I own alot of Redwing heritage boots. They literally fit me PERFECT without the insert. I wear 12s in shoes. I wear 11s in any Redwing Moc Toe. And 10.5 in anything with the 8 last. Such as blacksmiths. When I got these in 11, I took out the leather insert and it was like someone literally made these for my feet custom. And as thick and heavy as they are, they broke in So fast. Couldn't believe it. I use the 1907 for work outside because they're built so dam well. The leather is thick. Just a tough boot. I know they are great looking. I almost didn't want to use them, but they're great work boots A little confused about you saying they wear out fast. Soles that is. @sorotara
@sorotara 3 жыл бұрын
@@richardruney7345 Actually I ended up getting a pair of 1907s, and my experience of the length of both boots is "fairly" similar. What I mean by that is, the 875s fit well for me lengthwise, but the 1907s were maybe 1 or 2 millimeters shorter for me - especially on my right boot - which looked as if it was visibly shorter than the left one - might be just my luck - which is why I would still try to get another pair in the same size. So I can't really give a definitive answer, but I would say if you have at least 1 CM in front of your toes in 875s (last 23), then 1907s (last 45) should fit just fine with the same size. But obviously, the best option would be to try them on before purchase. I personally can't, cause I live oversees.

I work light duty in a machine shop, walking around on concrete and metal/ plastic grates, where safety toes are mandatory. I like mocc toe Red Wings for being not only stylish, but American and even union made. I also like a boot that’s resole-able, and will last me a good while otherwise. 6-8” seems ideal as I really appreciate ankle support and protection. What I need bedsides a safety toe is metatarsal protection, since I often carry heavy parts around. I got very wide EE or EEE feet, unsure what that is in EU standards, but they are paddles. Do you have any recommendations? I live in the US. I am willing to break them in if it gets me a union made safety boot with metatarsal protection. @@charlesbronson240 Honestly, I love them for outside work man. I've found certain heritage hold up better than work boots. Work boots unfortunately are made like crap. Ironic isn't it. Other brands work boots seem to fall apart. The 1907 is a better work boot then the Redwing 10875 imo too, which so considered a work boot. So idk Once I wear these soles out I'm gonna go with a lug type vibrim maybe

Picked up the 1907's about a month ago. The break in process is no joke. I've never had pain like this before in a boot . Most of it is the heel slipping and rubbing.I will not give up on these beautiful boots. A lesser man would cave... or at least that's what I tell myself.

Beautiful boots! Great video! If I didnt have bad feet I’d definitely fork over the money for red wings. But I dont think my feet could handle them. I do have the Timberland Pro Barstow wedge sole boots. They are a pretty comfortable moc toe boot that offers a thick insole. Have you looked into them? I know they’re not USA made but could be a video idea to compare usa boots to imported moc toe

You always have to go up half a size in any Redwing Moc Toe. Regardless of last I wear 12s in regular shoes. 11 in Redwing Moc, including the 1907 (without the insole), and 10.5s in anything with the 8 last. Like my blacksmiths. And they all fit like a GLOVE. Most comfortable boots I've had. Once I break in the 1907s really well, I'll use the insert. That's how it should be done

Why would you want to buy a boot whose sole wears out so quickly? Thorogood is marketing a Max Wear sole that has good reviews for durability. Even though I really like the design of the Redwings I’m leaning toward the Thorogood boots.

The 1907 is harder to break in. Thicker leather and they seem a tad smaller in length in the same size and they have an other last that looks better, wider, but in real life they are feeling a bit narrower in the same size as my 8131 Moc toes. I use special insoles by the way. The problem with new Moc Toes is also that the white sole is not very flexible and your heel wants to pop up all the time if you don’t tie the laces very tight. I always buy my Red Wings second hand as there are people who quit wearing them within a month or so. They buy them too large as they don’t like the break in period. My advice is, you have them for many years so be aware of the molding to your feet in the long run.

Get the red wing leather cream. It wont darken leather. It doesnt work as well as mink oil or the armstrongs as far as putting oil back in to the leather, so it needs applied a little more frequently. But if you dont want it to darken, thats the best option. They also recommend buying the water proofing spray to put on after using the cream

@mrgoodkat8567

Faris Azha no. Just cream. Cream conditions the leather just like everything else but it doesnt do that great for making the leather water resistant, so thats why you also need the red wing water proofing spray that coming in the small metal spray bottle.

The 1907s look big on you. I can tell my the amount of leather that cresses. That explains, since you stated you like to buy your boots bigger for more room. I prefer to buy them true to size, almost tight with a little discomfort, not short at all. They will loosen up over time.
