"SIZONGENA" - Cape Town Youth Choir

Founded in 1997 as the Pro Cantu Youth Choir, the internationally acclaimed Cape Town Youth Choir is proud to provide an opportunity for young South Africans to sing in a choir of the highest standards whilst delivering a moving musical experience to its audiences.
We are based in Cape Town and currently rehearse twice a week (on Tuesday and Friday evenings) at Jan van Riebeeck High School in Kloof Street. Membership is open to everyone between the ages of 17 and 30 that have passed the audition.

I was mesmerized when I first heard this song in 1983; most of my teachers were choristers: Manzini Choir. Listening to this today brings back warm memories and its so much more meaningful as I'm visiting with my In-laws right now. I just couldn't help smiling listening to this Masterpiece. For all those wondering about the meaning of the song. Sizongena Laphe 'Mzini is a composition based on two Zulu wedding songs and was composed by Mzilikazi Khumalo. The song is a comedic sort of arrangement that revolves around a groom's reactions to the mother of the brides bickerings about his clothing. He shows up to his wedding wearing inappropriate trousers and a shirt. The mother angrily approches him and asks for him to take it off, but he refuses and says he will get married with what he's wearing.
