The great thing about this type of conversations is that they spark the debate about our economy. Therefore different intrest groups / ideas will contend. This is a business take on mining. I think we. Should hear from labour, legislation and education (I. E wits should we not be building Wits campus all around mining towns/provinces. NC, MP, NW, LP). Very insightful conversation indeed, thanks for bringing Mr. Mthenjane on. The country and the SADC region in general need to move beyond just talking about beneficiation especially that of critical energy minerals. The government should provide the necessary environment (policy & infrastructure) to attract investment for establishing processing plants in SA. Hopefully, we can capitalise on the huge mineral demand that the global energy transition is creating and create wealth for all the citizens of the country.

The rationale behind why i characterize this chap as an NPC. SA possesses more mineral wealth than Saudi Arabia and Qatar combined, yet I have yet to see Mohammed bin Salman soliciting foreign investment for Saudi. This chap was appointed to uphold the status quo-one that prioritizes enriching everyone except SA or in detail; economically disadvantages natives black SAns. By all metrics, we should be outperforming the Arabian economies, yet under such leadership, the default approach is to lobby ‘investors’ to extract and profit from wealth of SA , rather than cultivating indigenous mining enterprises. After all, no investor operates without the expectation of profit-so why are we pleading for others to come and enrich themselves while we, as a nation, are so poor? This why rebel groups like M23 exist in DRC , cause of chaps like this. This is insane.
@esahm3735 күн бұрын
We need to follow the Norwegian and Qatari model: National resources need to be managed and mined by national entities, not foreign cartels listed at the London Stock Exchange. This smart, handsome man is just a stooge for the Oppenheimer cartel unfortunately, but I guess it helped him to access a living standard much higher than what’s accessible to most SouthAfricans?
@sogaman78065 күн бұрын
@@esahm373 That is true. The lifestyle serves as an incentive for maintaining the status quo. However, the deeper issue lies in the mindset of always striving to be superior to their fellow Black people- as long as the majority remain beneath them, they feel comfortable. which is why they are so PASSIONATE about keeping blacks impoverished. The problem emerges when Black natives strive to succeed, improve their circumstances, and achieve independence - they block it with bureaucracy and systems.

Waste of time talking to this chap. He has shown neither interest nor inclination toward deliberating sustainable frameworks aimed at empowering economically disadvantaged black South Africans. His discourse remains fixated on external investment - NOT EVEN EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES, meaning enriching those already with money. SA is in trouble with these kind of CEOs. this chap is a bonafide NPC.
@patrickthorp38165 күн бұрын
External investment is still key. People cannot expect to be rescued by business. What they need is an education and a hopeful future so that they are equipped with skills to thrive. No one is coming to rescue the poor...
@sogaman78065 күн бұрын
@@patrickthorp3816 Since 1994, we have seen waves of external investment, yet what tangible benefits have they truly brought? Instead of fostering sustainable development, these investments have largely extracted our mineral wealth, enriching foreign entities while leaving our nation struggling. This cycle has led to what I term 'External Investment Dependency'-a model that is neither sustainable nor empowering. When these mining ventures cease to be profitable or fail to meet their targets, they resort to retrenchments with little to no consideration for the livelihoods of their employees. If there is no genuine commitment to uplifting the poor, then one must also be prepared to face the inevitable consequences: escalating social ills that, in time, will become too severe to endure. NB !! Police to citizen ratio in SA is 1:435 not considering illegal immigrants. If the current status quo becomes to hard to bare, the lawlessness will reach an unprecedented scale. THATS THE RISK.

Sizwe I understand that you do not want to be confrontational, but like Gogo was saying media must keep people accountable. When you allow people to come and say anything they want about anyone you essentially become a mouthpiece for their propaganda. You cannot act as if you are not responsible for the things people say on your platform. One week you have someone here talking about the tragedy and inhumanity of stilfontein; the next week you have someone calling those people “illegal”. Both weeks you seem to be agreeing and humoring the guest. It makes it seem as if you yourself have no beliefs, when we know you do. Doing this is the best way to get influential people on here because they know that you will not challenge anything your say. It’s the best way to get big names and grow your platform. But at what cost Sizwe?
