See part 2 with the new recoil spring: • Sjögren Inertia Shotgu...
Shooting my new(old) Sjögren shotgun. A rare specimen: only about 5000 of these were made between the years of 1908 and 1909. This shotgun uses an inertia action in which the shotgun locks when fired and the force on the firing pin unlocks the action. This 100 year old concept was revived by Benelli and is widely used on their shotguns today.
Unfortunately, this example is showing its age and the bolt return spring and magazine springs are quite weak. I intend to find something I can replace it with, but for now you will have to just deal with the footage I have.

@@PhoenixPhart do you think this effect could be reduced to zero if it had new springs? Maybe bolt would be so fast, that eye cant see its movement?

The interesting part is, the designer had a rifle with the same bolt design. Imagine trying to aim that

Just found your channel and I'm so excited. You're very much like LSP in the quality and presentation of firearms in your videos and your taste in firearms. I have a Sjogren of my own. I've got a spring coming from Aliexpress that should fit the recoil guide. Also have some 2-1/2" I custom ordered from a retailer. Can't wait to shoot it. I know of someone with a Walther Automatic Shotgun who isn't quite ready to part with it yet. I'm in love with these wacky locked breech guns from the turn of the century. Personally I would love to hear some of your reviews and findings with these firearms. There are very few documented first hand accounts of experiences with these early guns. I too have a couple guns that I can find very little about online: I've got a frommer 1910 i'm going to start trying to load for, as well as a Webley 1910 in 38 Auto. I would love to start shooting some video to share my experiences.

Thanks! LSP is definitely one of my inspirations for video format and gun collecting. Speaking isn't really my strong suit so I may just leave some thoughts in the description, but I'd like to let the videos themselves do the talking. And yes, I would love to see your two 1910s in action for sure!

Just got my china spring today. I ordered the 0.7x6mmx300 spring from here: www.aliexpress.com/item/spring/32669776813.html. I cut it until it just fit in the recoil spring channel and then stretched it out to double it's length and it works great. Before, my Sjogren could not close it's slide if I pointed the shotgun upwards and hit the lifter. Now it can close in this orientation, and closes much more rapidly when held horizontally.

Not likely, I've taken one of these apart and there are about a half-dozen parts that all need to simultaneously break in order for the bolt to come off the rails. And they don't appear to be flimsy parts, it's all Swedish tool steel which is really tough. On the off chance they _would_ break, it's more likely that the bolt would simply jam up halfway. It's a lot safer than it looks.

Nice! I've got one but have only took it out shooting once. Didn't have any problems cycling. Do you use light loads or run regular rounds through it?
@PhoenixPhart
@PhoenixPhart 6 жыл бұрын
bitfreakazoid - The problems were caused by a weak recoil spring. Check out part 2, once I replaced the recoil spring all of the problems went away! To answer your question, I've been using standard load 1150 FPS roll crimped target loads from RST Shells with great reliability.
@thegoldencaulk2742

I can see you went with RST, but which specific ammo did you use. I'm trying to find some to shoot in my own Sjogren but they've got so many options!

Roll crimp lites are my go to for both the Walther and Sjögren. The star crimp shells are just short enough to cause feeding issues in the elevator when hand cycling, but if your magazine spring is not too strong, it'll feed during operation just fine
