Nice comparison. Happy you tested the Xiaomi stock without focus hack as this is how the average user would be using it and a better representation of this camera. GoPro always king but great to see decent cheaper alternatives.

Dude! Did you tweak focal length on the SJ? Stock lens? Mine doesnt focus that well and dont think is as sharp as yours either. I'm considering replacing the lens with a gopro's...

+Nacho Montamat (NHD) Hi, nope - this SJ5000+ is stock. It's maybe a newer hardware revision? Mine came with FW 3.1 installed and it is the 1.54" Display veresion. I read that there are different HW versions...

Just got my SJ5000+ and I am in the progress of trying it out. Mine came with ver.3.1 and I will look for the update fixes. I want to commend you on a really informative video. I really loved the video of your neighborhood or area. Where is that? The rolling mountains, the crystal clear water....no fish...I'd swim in there if it was deeper...LOL I will check the SJcam site to see what the update addresses. Thanks, the town is Gloggnitz in Austria. Hope you enjoy the sjcam. One question: if you turn on the cam and try to switch modes until you are in menu, doest yours also reboot? Or if you want to turn off immediatly after turning on? Mine does, its a bit annoying. But if i wait 30 sec then it works and doesnt reboot :-)

I am a bit disappointed you did not focus your Xiaomi YI lol This camera is great and not a lot people are aware about that there is a lot of mods for improving a lot the image quality and make it record almost as good as the Gopro :) You should maybe have a look on them! Thanks for sharing anyway, the SJ5000+ looks interesting indeed! Have a great weekend

Got your reply, I have not yet experienced that problem with rebooting even though I have had an issue with (the vendor). My battery does not last an hour as you said you have experienced. I have experienced warming to touch on occasion. I figure I have new and extra batteries. I went to the site to update to 3.02 and read the warning...puzzled as to which file to use I didn't take a chance. I clicked on the 5000+ wifi and got "error 404". I have the 1.54 screen. I lived in Germany for 4 1/2 years and miss those type of scenes and style so much. I learned photography while I was there and have been doing it Professionally for many years now. 73

kann man die sj5000+ mit dem xugong verwenden und dann zwischen dem sj5000+ bild und dem bild der fpv kamera hin und herschalten wie mit einer gopro?

Das muss ich testen. Man braucht zumindest das richtige kabel dafür. Ich hatte bei der cam nicht das orig tv out kabel dabei, jetzt wäre zu tsten ob man sich slebst s löten kann (pin belegung?). Wenn man gleich eines mitbestellt, sollte es auf jeden fall gehen. Die funktion des umschaltens zwischen 2 cams ist für mich recht unnötig. Die meiste zeit flieg ich über die gopro ansicht...

I would say you should take a look at the Sony AZ1 - it has the "best" form factor to be used on the drones like you do.

I watch the sony cams now for amwhile. they were always a nice competition to the gopros with better price and stabilizer. this one is really small. i wouldnt nuy it atm because i have enough cams now 😃 but if someone isvnot sure which to get this might be an alternative. the sjcam m10+ is my current favorit. will post review soon.

RCSchim I rarely use the stabilizer on my actioncams, but if you don't have one in your editing software it is a great way to get stable footage right out the camera. There is no need for you to buy one, it was just a suggestion ;)

+NicGaming I use stabilizer in Sony Vegas if it should look smooth, but having an gyro based anti shaker is better for quality! Check out my new video about the m10+ and tell me how you like it (video will be online soon)

RCSchim I do the same with Corel Video Studio Pro X8 - I stablize in post production and correct the fisheye if I don't want it in a particular video.

Not yet, I was a bit sceptic about tearing it open. And I thougt for a review I want it the way it comes to the customer. Maybe I will try this mod and make a short update later about it.

+RCSchim It makes a world of difference. I also set my noise reduction to 200 using an autoexec script. It's quite sharp now. Where are you based?

It looks like even though the Xiaomi is out of focus, it has better details in the shadows...a higher dynamic range etc.

Not a fair review as the yi visibly has the elastic band slightly over the lens, I know they're probably locked focus but it can't be good for the light intake and overall quality of the recording.

+IdeasByGamers You're right - that was a mishap I didnt notice on this morning. But in the later shots (on my lunchbreak walk) I had it corrected. Since I got a few comments about the Yi I will next try to focus it and also take a look at fany autoexec scripts. Both things no customer should need to fiddle around with - but if it enhances quality - it might really be the secret 60fps budget tip I thought.

Go pro destroys the chinese action cams.. Watch my three last videos which were filmed with a go pro and all the previous are the Xiaomi yi.

Sure, quality of gopro is in it's own class. But the question is: what if your flying destroys the gopro? In that case a cheaper cam wins :-)

HEy, die Xiaomi Yi wirkt für mich etwas zu hell und zu blass.. bei den dunklen Passagen (Tunnel) aber durchaus OK, denn durch die größere "Aufhellung" werden die Bilder etwas besser. Die SJ5000 ist zwar dunkler, aber bei sehr sonnigem Wetter, finde ich sie besser als die GoPro, da wirken die Farben und die Schärfe irgendwie besser. Als kostengünstigere Lösung halte ich die SJ5000+ für eine sehr gute Alternative zur GoPro

gopro no doubt has better quality. But the Chinese cam is less then $100 bones. If you are still smashing frames and crashing a lot...... Xiaomi isn't a bad idea. I have 2 and still paid less then the cheapest gopro that does 1080p@60fps.
