Sometimes I feel like I'm the last person on earth who still likes using a dedicated mp3 player and having all my music on local storage as opposed to just streaming everything on my phone. Well luckily for me companies like Mechen are still willing to cater to my interests. They've recently released the H1, a budget oriented android portable mp3 player with 16gb flash, micro sd card slot, wifi, bluetooth, 1.5gb ram, 8 core cpu, 3.5" lcd, and last but definitely not least a 1500mAh battery! Let's run this ~$50 unit through the wringer and see if it can keep the dedicated android mp3 player market alive for just a little while longer!

Hello, I will buy an Android-based mp3 player for the first time. Is it suitable for someone who is only focused on music? Is there a shutdown feature, so is it quick to turn off and on completely, or does it make sense to use it without turning it off like a phone? Also, is it important for me to worry about the battery? Thanks.

Speaker is ok but mic isn't gonna cut the mustard unless you are close to the front of the room or your prof yells quite loud. You'd be better off getting a dedicated voice recorder.

Is it possible to make lists directly on it, or save M3U files and use them on this player?

thank you for this video. i´m having a hard time finding a decent budget mp3 player with a good scrolling speed for the albums / artists list on the player app. i´m always researching for good mp3 players (on a budget!) and everytime i buy one, i get totally frustrated with the list scroll speed - because i have tons and tons of mp3 files and takes like forever to get to an album / artist that´s not in the begining of the list. could you recommend a budget mp3 player (maybe with android) that supports up to 512gb sd card and it´s fast scrolling up and down? thank you so much!!

The best price to performance ratio in a budget model I've found to date would have to be the pecsu p5s.

Streaming = you're not in control of your music collection. They can remove anything any time they feel like it. Local storage remains ideal.

How do I find songs and download them onto this device? Great video by the way.

The easiest way is just to copy your mp3's straight onto a micro sd card and pop it into the player. When you start up the music app on the player it'll scan the card to add the files to the library. As for where to find songs, any unprotected mp3 file will work (buying from itunes/amazon music/etc as well as ripping your cd's into mp3 with a computer).

you have had this for almost 11 months, have you tried the MP4 player ??? I'm having trouble, recognizes some MP4s yet not other MP4s, that work in my TV and on my computer, have you noticed this ??? (NOTE: I am NOT generalizing all video files as "MP4", I mean literally just an issue with recognizing some .mp4 and not other .mp4 seemingly random)

So I'm pretty sure that's a limitation of the built in video app. Using a comment below I was able to sideload mx player which supports just about every format I've thrown at it.

You can improve the focus in your videos if you set your camera to manual focus.

My camera is a phone so no idea if that's actually possible unless there's a specific setting in the camera app.

How do I import a video onto it?

Connect to a computer via usb and on the drive that pops up in file explorer just copy and paste the video onto the drive. You can technically put it anywhere on the drive or the video folder if you wanna keep it organized.

Stock nope, but read TheRealMarkS' comment below and there's a secret code you can enter to allow sideloading apps. I can confirm it works for most of the apps I've tried.

Hopefully, I quickly tried enabling usb debugging and connecting over usb via adb and it wasn't even detected so I couldn't push an apk

Per @MunichViena500 ‘s video here on KZbin: Be sure the system language is set to English/United States > Close out of System Settings > Open Calculator > Enter .202188 followed by the equals sign. You should see a dialog box pop to allow or disallow third party app installs. (that’s the decimal followed by 202188). I ordered one, as I’m also a collector of way too many tech gadgets, but don’t have it yet. Whether that works or not, I can’t verify, but if it does, it would make it all that much better. Update: I received mine today, and I can confirm this works.

It has bluetooth, just no app install support.

It's actually possible to install 3rd party apps by doing this: Go to calculator and type “.202188” it should open a menu. Click “install third party apps” Now apk files will install I ordered this mechen when I saw this was a option :)
