I work more in the field of urban forestry, in a town aptly nicknamed "Tree City", but I can, from experience, in-depth research, and a multitude of others' observations, tell you that cutting down this tree, and many like it, will allow many other trees to grow significantly healthier.
@user-yh7it4de8b2 ай бұрын
You are pointing out an outdated view of forestry. These large pines have a different gene pool and are suitable for reproduction. She could still outlive us. The concept of removing such large (over-ripe) trees has already been revised by both science and foresters since writing your comment.

Despite all of the forest management issues - this is really interesting to see how it's done. That giant fellow was really old and looked dead or nearly so. It seems better to cut it now and make beautiful furniture out of it than have it blow down. I would love to have some of that wood. Interesting how you cut the bark away like that.

Before you go getting mad, take a good look at that tree. It was visibly not a healthy tree. It was already dying. It's not like he cut down a healthy tree. He cut down a tree that was doomed to fall within a few years anyway. At least by him cutting it down he was able to make sure it fell in such a way as to not damage any of the younger growth. That's right. He probably saved three or four trees by cutting this one down. Sit and think about that before you go hating on the guy.

To all the ignorant do-gooders on here who don't understand the factors at play and reasons one might fell a tree. I am a tree surgeon, I adore trees and that is why I devote my life to working with them, primarily it is my job to keep them healthy and alive, felling is always the last option but there are so many factors and reasons for why it is done and not to forget the wonderful things that happen afterwards, especially in woodland, look it up. Remember, nature never intended any tree to live forever and sometimes it is better to fell a tree in a controlled way when it is reaching the end of its life, rather than leave it to come down on its own potentially causing a huge amount of destruction. In the forestry world conifers are planted and harvested as a crop just like wheat or barley, and again I don't see a problem with this, it's a sustainable means of harvesting timber. Of course it is always sad when a tree has to come down but don't be so blindly outraged, learn the facts before you start spewing hatred from all holes.

I think that what a lot of people are missing is the true circumstances of this. I did not hear him state WHY he was cutting the tree down, but I did hear him say that it was missing the top. It also looked pretty ugly. Possibly, it was dead already. Removing trees from a forest can be a good thing, as it helps the ones that are left. Granted, there are trees that should not be cut in their prime, but it doesn't appear that this is one of them.
@epiccarrot889 жыл бұрын
Seth Watson It was missing the top, but it could easily regrow. VERY easily. Also, if you'd kill a living thing just because it looked ugly, then you seriously need to rethink your life. And just because the tree was dead, doesn't mean the insects and animals that live in or on it wouldn't be affected.

@@TexasJack78 The older tree is shading out saplings, stunting their growth and taking water and nutrients that they can use. +milestracy or how about you educate yourself. He is saying if you don't cut it down then it will die very soon and no one will get any use out of it. But now it will build houses that people can live in. Now the young will grow and they cycle starts again. Think it through before you say something stupid next time.

People need the wood but don't want it to come from trees lmao. Swear I think people get more ignorant every day. I'm not fighting a battle of words with dumb double standard hypocrites but I will say this looked like a good safe job. Well done!
@hyzercreek10 жыл бұрын
They think trees have a soul and bigger trees have more soul than little trees. Every time you mow the lawn you kill hundreds of baby trees this is just a big one. Where is the soul in a tree it doesn't even have a brain. It's just wood!

in my world there has to be a reason to cut such a tree down, unfortunately i could nt ,[by the video] see any reason for it to come down , but i dont no anything about that job at hand. it appears to me it was a residual left by the real loggers. its also appears to be standing relatively straight with quite large schoolmarms on it , the fella mentions theres another one on it as well. which by the size of them they wood happily sustain such a tree, but without seeing the foliage hard to say , but not that hard, I didnt see any trails near by is it in a park? hmmm ,interesting . not enough details for me, but i will say some pretty radical outlandish comments on this one

You guys that are talking about the tree being cut. YOu can tell by the looks of it that it is on the way out. The tree would die and go to waste like it was. It was best to cut it. It was mature and on the down hill side fast.

Cutting down a tree may not impact our lives but it can impact the environment. call me whatever you want, some people (including me) care about these kinds of things. No stupid troll comment will change that.

Tavis Young true, but we could also stop throwing things out, and recycling. It isnt a big deal, at the end of the day the tree was cut down, I just like to express my feelings about the environment because I care about it a lot, but we can all have different opinions :).

stop whining. there's no shortage of lumber in North America. we got wood. PS - i'm also a conservationist, which is why i stand by the belief that green logging is not only useful, but essential for the survival of ecosystems. the problem isn't the logging--it's the industrial waste caused further down the supply chain. get your eyes on the real perpetrators, folks.

Makes me sad to see a beautiful, hundreds of years old tree, being cut down. Makes me even more sad to see the comments here and be reminded just how little people care for our planet and it's resources. I don't know how someone could look at something so majestic, then destroy it in a matter of minutes.

Your state of sadness or content,does nothing for the economy or good jobs,the act of living and needing and using things.How does a chicken feel about its egg being stolen every day?
@bow2theprincess7 жыл бұрын
Your state of disregard puts our environment and resources at great risk, for generations to come. This self-centered mentality is exactly what is wrong with people today. It's all about me, right now. No one gives a shit what we are leaving behind for our children and grandchildren. As long as you can make a dollar, screw everybody else. I feel sorry for you.

Do at least a nine second research on Foresrty/logging/Land use/Parks in British Columbia here before your heart guides you to to your own truth.We have moreparks and set aside lands than will ever be used or needed
@bow2theprincess7 жыл бұрын
More parks and lands set aside, than will ever be used or needed? You can't possibly be serious. What about the wildlife and plants that rely on what meager land we don't develop or take for our own? We have already removed over 80% of the worlds forests, and that number continues to rise. The human population continues to rise at astounding rates and we are using resources faster than the earth can sustain long-term. You only consider forests value, in what it has to offer us humans. You consider nothing else. That ideology says all I need to know about where your mindset it.
