That is why axes are my favorite weapons. They are not only intended to use in battle but they are also tools that you can use outside of the battle. What most people don't know, all bearded axes are named after the Scandinavian Äkks, the Bearded. His beard was so lush and dense, he had a blacksmith forge him a special tool for it. Later they discovered said tool was quite well suited to cut down other things as well and the bearded axe rose in popluarity. Äkks then married a Danish woman named Danja and their son would grow up to be so tall, they jokingly attached his axe's head to a broomstick. This later also became widely used, called the Dane Axe.

Less useful in a full on fight, where the goal is usually pretty explicitly to murder your opponent rather than non-fatally incapacitate them
@nauticalgaming22564 жыл бұрын
@@rollingthunder1043 I can see several instances where it would be more useful than hitting with the blade part however. One of those instances would be if your foe had a helmet. If they're wearing full plate armor then it is pretty hard to beat, but maces were designed to crush armor. Now an axe handle probably wouldn't crush armor, but a strong hit to the helmet with the handle would probably daze them due to the loud metal ringing right next to their eardrums. Then, while they're too busy being in agony, you could use the axe blade to strike at an exposed part of the person like an arm or leg joint.
@JooJingleTHISISLEGIT4 жыл бұрын
@@nauticalgaming2256 or you could hit their helmet with the axe blade instead, since it's heavier and would do more damage. then once they're in agony you can hit them again with the axe head like you said, it's better for hitting things. basically if you want to fight with a stick then hitting them with the shaft is fine. You only want to fight with a stick if they are your friend, so it's what cassie said: "Less useful in a full on fight, where the goal is usually pretty explicitly to murder your opponent rather than non-fatally incapacitate them"
@nauticalgaming22564 жыл бұрын
@@JooJingleTHISISLEGIT there is a big reason you don't want to hit them with the blade, however. Since there's more mass in the head, the edge would be more likely to acquire a roll in the edge from a hit like that as the force would go from the blade into the armor and then back into the blade. And if you've ever watched Forged in Fire, you'll know that rolled edges cut horribly. Not saying that it's a guarantee thing to happen if you hit the helmet with the axe blade, because there's a number of factors that could go into it like the force behind the swing itself or the craftsmanship of the blade, but I'd hit the helmet with the stick part myself just to be safe.
@Alex_Fahey4 жыл бұрын
@@JooJingleTHISISLEGIT "or you could hit their helmet with the axe blade instead," you could but that's likely to damage that rather expensive and, relative to a helmet, fragile blade. You can do the same kind of blunt force trauma with the axe handle or even better the iron or steel wrapped around the back - relative to the axe blade - of the wood.

I use a similar axe to carve the hafts of polearms, love the design for things of that nature since you choke up and the blade is infront of your knuckles

I think that looks like quite a decent bushcraft axe as well as a weapon. I your Nordic ancestors would have carried something very similar with them everywhere, I'm sure. I especially love the fact that iron was used.

That axe has a nice bite, too! You can see the chunks splitting away from the wood
