There's one thing that bugs me about Kirito's swords that I wanted to get your opinion of. It's mentioned repeatedly in Sword Art Online in the light novel that Kirito prefers using extremely heavy swords, with the narrative seeming to imply they're stronger. Wouldn't being very heavy actually make a sword LESS practical? Swords damage through cutting, not through delivering kinetic force like a mace or hammer.
@trailblazer6326 жыл бұрын
More Kinetic energy delivered on an extremely small point or in this case edge would be more devastating. That doesnt make it more practical. Youd still have to be strong enough to properly weild it but thats not a very big issue really. What does he mean by "heavier" swords? A pound more than average? 3lbs? If he can properly handle a heavier sword there wouldnt be any reason not to use it. The extra energy it imparts would give you am advantage
@marvyricafrente87546 жыл бұрын
It's because his STR stat is a tad bit too high so he'll want a heavier sword to offset that feeling of the sword being too light
@JulielCv6 жыл бұрын
In games, the heavier the sword is, the more powerful it is, but it is also bigger and slower. A one-handed sword is more for mobility and quick hits, so the less weight the better. Reiki Kaguabonga confessed not having any idea of games and MMO, so ...
@Ashbringer365 жыл бұрын
I mean it also depends on his character strength. Like a 20 pound one handed sword might sound impractical but if the person in question can wield it comfortably and not lose out on the mobility then there’s only positives (discounting things like edge or anything else on the forging side of the weapon.)
@CheolA-i7g5 жыл бұрын
Keep i mind its a game where stats are assisted but if you really wanna compare, things to note are 1. He doesnt mean some dragon slayer from berserk shet that is ridiculously heavey. He means heavier within standard deviation wise. You can tell from how his weapons look; standard one/two handed sword. Think about baseball bat. People have perferences on weight of their bat since if its too light for you, you wont be able to fully deliver your strength opposed to if its too heavy, you wont be able to control it.But they are all baseball bats Kirito is on the strong side (at least in the game we are comparing to real life) so he prefers heavier weapon. It gives him more feedback from game to feel like he's actually holding something( also k.i.m that senses dont work the same as rl life) 2. Even if he meant bigger weapon type. They are primarily fighting monsters, not human, often huge and bulky but patternized in their attacks. This significantly decreases downsides of heavier weapon not being nimble and open to attack since you can always read their movements to land hits and dodge their attack so there are significantly more room for openings. Basically, they wont exploit weakness and act same towards any weapon type.

(And by long blades I'm just referring to any sword blade longer than a short sword) If you want to duel wield the best option would be to have your primary weapon and a shorter weapon in your offhand. You wouldn't really want to attack with both weapons at once. Instead, you would use one weapon for defense or distraction and then strike with the other. It's like how you could use a shield.

Actually, the base material of the Elucidator is never mentioned, as it was a super rare boss drop that was _impossible to craft._ For a game with just about everything in it, you’d think obsidian would be in it, and things like steel and iron definitely are. However, you’d have to assume it to be of a material stronger than steel, or at least iron, as it broke Lisbeth’s best sword in one stroke, even if Kirito used a Sword Skill. Along with that, the Elucidator was eventually upgraded to a total of +45. This is out of a possible +50. Furthermore, the thing is heavy as all hell, and Kirito didn’t even have the STR to wield it when he got it. Of course, there’s also the fact that the swords _do_ have some form of durability (see Kuradeel, or Episode 07 showing the Elucidator’s 1350 durability stat), making the Elucidator, with all that it’s gone through, highly unlikely to be any known material. The one guy who joked about polygons down here in the comments actually has a point, the material to truly replicate the Elucidator doesn’t exist. However, it is at least about as strong as dragon poop crystals, as they’ve both been used for similar things, and neither broke. Also, I read the wiki article. It doesn’t state the material. At all.
@Kirito-ei2tq2 жыл бұрын
I know this is late but I like what mentioned about the durability of the Elucidator. Given the fact that SAO took place inside of a game then it's probably safe to assume that any weapon with a lower durability would not hold up well against the Elucidator.
@totallynoteverything1.2 жыл бұрын
not enough STR? Did he two handed it first?
@SoftisNelaris Жыл бұрын
@@totallynoteverything1. No, with insufficient STR it is not possible to equip it at all. It sat in his inventory for a while until he got some more level ups to raise his STR. Him not having enough strength to wield a 1H sword while having a good STR/AGI balance is one of the indicators that Elucidator is a beastly sword that, with it's nearly unmatched upgrade cap, could conceivably still be fantastic even a quarter of the game later.

It's weird that people are so hung up on the Elucidator because even in the Anime it wasn't really...like, special. Literally, just one episode, he suddenly has it. I think they only say the name in that episode and it's done. I can understand why people love things like the Gunblade or the crazy Giant Slaying Boxcutters from Attack on Titan that are everywhere; but why do people love this sword?

About it being obsidian, I do believe it's worth mentioning that Lizbeth notes the Elucidator is a magic sword, stating: "This is the gnarliest magic sword you can get from a drop." This implies that, if it IS made from obsidian, then both the blade and its seemingly auxiliary pieces are held together by magic of some kind, perhaps during forging or tempering.

It is repeatedly stated in the novels that Kirito actually prefers his swords heavier than normal - In the "second season" he actually 1-hands a 2-handed blade, if I remember correctly... As for Dark Repulser, being made of "dragon remains" (*ahem*) makes it quite heavy even though it's so slim. Also, extremely stupid question: Does the wiki info clearly says it's MADE OF obsidian? Is there any chance they're refering to the color? I really have to ask e.e'

Also the words you typed sound serious. :-) By now I've seen a couple of your videos about fantasy weapons and a couple about realistic weapons and I think I am starting to see why this is such a boring topic to you. While it's fun the first time to hear that Cloud has to weigh more than a ton to wield his Buster sword, the point does get repetitive. As an expert you presumably want to make more use of your knowledge than pointing out the obvious, am I right? But the video about Monster Hunter was hilarious to watch. ^^ Well, I guess the majority of KZbinrs want some lighthearted entertainment rather than learning expert knowledge, after a day at work / school / university, so that's the dilemma right there. But luckily, KZbin is not TV, so as long as you don't require YT money to live, you can just do whatever you want. Good luck!

Something to know about the sword: it was most likely part of the six armed metallic statue boss on the 50th floor. @kslatter11689 жыл бұрын

well glass shard between your chainmail and clothing is not that bad compared to deep cuts. yes its a nuisance , and if small wounds get infected you can die a slow and agonizing death. But if that very same weapon hits you you will have lot bigger problems, than pain and the possibility of death in weeks / months from an infected wound.

Yes they did! In Native American cultures armor and shields were very uninitialized compared to Europe. Since that was their blade "meta" with sharp blades and no armor it worked better for them. For this exact reason, the conquistadores from Spain in their steel plate armor were able to assault them so easily. Their "meta" of strong solid armor and blades was a great counter to the obsidian and made it almost useless against them.

There is no magic in SAO, no spells at the very least. That is said in tye first episode if Im remembering correctly.
@bjarneb89665 жыл бұрын

Great video,Jest an observation, I think that the Aztecs used a obsidian sword but it was made of wood and had the obsidian imbedded on the edge

I thought when it said obsidian it meant obsidian colored... welp that'd make a terrible blade if you're right.
@a-person9 жыл бұрын
+Droitzel Glaedr I'm sure its not entirely made of obsidian, maybe just the coating of the blade.

pfft, slim swords. Do you even lift, bro? Can you imagine the mad gains you'd get by swinging around a 300 Kg sword? all the other knights would be 'mirin ya, an all the m'ladies would be wanting to read poetry with ya behind the stables, if ya know what I mean ;) also, katanas are pretty slim.
