What could possibly go wrong? No, really... seems perfectly safe. :D
An axe on a chain that might come flying back to embed itself in your foot... a spring-powered steel contraction strapped to a fragile human leg with an axe head right on the toes, hacking into solid objects... May the gods of the interwebz bless content creators who sacrifice their personal safety on the altar of entertainment.

First one reminds me of a weapon from Runescape. Full-fledged vampires in Runescape appear to be immune to damage, and the game's explanation for this is that they have a low level of precognition that allows them to avoid any attack. The solution? Apparently it was to put a silver sickle at the end of a chain anchored to a staff. The resultant weapon being so unpredictable, not even the wielder will know what it's going to do, thus the vampire is unable to predict its path.

I think a flail axe is not only a bad axe, it's also a bad flail. Part of what makes the flail work is you don't have to worry about edge alignment. When you have a flail that does make you worry, it's a gamble whether it'll even hurt your opponent on hit.

I've had the pleasure of putting an axe into my foot before... I split firewood every day during Winter to heat my house & one time the grain of the log sent the thing out diagonally - through my steel toecapped boot, my sock & then into my foot. Obviously you need to combine the best features of all the designs: 2.5 metres of wooden haft, then 1.5 metres of double-bit axe heads linked together with one-axis hinges, not chain links, to maintain edge alignment. Have steel armour on the haft so they con't cut into it, and flare the base of the armour out to keep your hands down on the "far enough from the top" part so the axes don't cut into those either. Also, hire someone to carry it for you when you're not swinging it.

Funnily enough, I did hear a story about a rocket propelled ax. That said it was something the guy who told me (who'd served in Iraq) was skeptical of. Supposedly an RPG-7 was found after an engagement or captured of an insurgent and someone tried to make thicket clearing quicker with it, by loading the RPG launcher with a felling ax and firing it out the RPG launcher at the thicket they were trying to clear. I wasn't sure if that's possible since I thought RPGs don't fire without the ignition charge in the warhead and so there'd be nothing to launch the felling ax with.
@laurencefraser
@laurencefraser Жыл бұрын
There are ways you could get something to that effect, but I'm pretty sure you couldn't just stick an axe in an RPG launcher, no. Modify the round so it's more of an RPA (rocket propelled axe)? Uh, *yeah* , the spring powering is a really *bad* idea; I actually have a similar concept that I was planning on making a player weapon option in my TTRPG system I'm writing, but the *big* difference is that it'd just be a specially shaped metal *cleat* that'd be either fitted over a *sturdy boot* , or if it *was* fitted to the bare feet, would go *around* the toes before tapering into a sharp edge a decent ways out *ahead* of the toes and heel, and would have a decently thick layer of *sponge* covered with a layer of cushiony fabric attached to the inside to cushion the impact to keep one from breaking their toes when they hit a target; hence my calling them *Cleat-axes* . There'd be absolutely *no* mechanical assistance so that they can't hit *any* harder than the wielder can throw a kick on their own, which reduces the likelihood of breaking any foot bones even *more* One of my two inspirations for the idea was the Grieve Edge weapon that CaS characters can wield in Soulcalibur III; I wanted to come up with a *realistically functional* version of that type of weapon because there's a number of kicking oriented martial arts that I honestly think a weapon like that would *really* work for!

There is always the famous villain favorite gadget weapon: the stilleto shoe, with a small switchblade coming out the top, bottom or outside of the shoe. Left side for left foot, right side for the right foot. Kicks would be either sweeping, to cut with the side blades, or heel/toe kicks to pierce with. A heel dropkick with a thick but short spike at point of impact could probably cause some decent damage, I wager. Do with this info, whatever you want...

I knew a guy who once cut a slice out of his scalp with a 2 headed axe that he decided to chop wood with, I shit you not, he hit a clothes line he didn't notice and it bounced back and scalped him.

Speaking of fantasy axes, I would want to have a Dane axe with type L head with a small hammer head on the backside of the blade. I think that would be cool axe for a dwarf.

That does raise an interesting point about a suit that enhances your physical abilities. Unless there is proper levels of shock absorption, you're gonna get ripped apart in something like an iron man suit.

I tried to chop a wet log with a blunt axe many years ago. The butt of the axe split my forehead open on the rebound, still got the scar 35 years on. It did nothing to dissuade my fascination with sharp metal things but I learned a valuable lesson & instantly gained the respect you need when handling weapons & tools. Love your videos & love that you also watch 'I did a thing'.

The same guy who made the axe boot also made a functioning axe flail with a retractable motorcycle chain. It can switch from a regular axe to a flail axe and the motorcycle chain makes sure the axe head is always facing the right way.

5:22 - wasn't that a trap in one of the Saw movies? "Would you like to play a game? I've connected your leg to a spring loaded axe. If you don't find the key, the spring will trip, causing you to forcefully kick a wall, breaking myriad and sundry bones."

The funny thing about that springpowered leg axe is: if he actually learn how to kick, how to put his body weight behind his kick, he can do all of that without the springs. We strapped a blade to a senior's leg in our muay thai club. And he spit wood, bones, bamboo effortlessly.

Hey Skall, Jeorg wears a shirt to protect the hazardous spalling and fragments from his skin. (Also, i havent seen him use anything he aims at himself yet) That guy with the spring leg brace....and the one with the forearm axe... ooof, reminds me of this one great story that i wont share except this infuriatingly tantalizing tidbit: It involved rockets and a bungee cord... :)

Stick+metal bit, with the occasional flexible connection between the parts is a tried and true method for effective weapons. Making the metal pointy or sharp is even more efficient. Now I want a spreadsheet for weapons with number of sticks, number of metal bits, number of connections, length of sticks, length of pointy bits, width of pointy bits, orthogonality of connections between bits, strechyness of connections and straightness of sticks and metal bits as variables, add sharpness of metal bits and see what traditional and non-traditional weapons pop out.
