Something I love with Skam is it shows the value of having friends with different viewpoints. Isak has a couple of misconceptions throughout the season but when he talks to his friends about it he gets their perspective on it and learns and grows from that.

If you wondered what the look from Jonas meant when Isak mentioned his mom, its because in season 1 his dad left his mom, and his mom had a breakdown. ( I also think its implied that she has some mental health issues in earlier seasons) Jonas knows how difficult that time was for Isak, so the fact she was mentioned made Jonas worry she might have had another breakdown/bad period again, hence the worried look on his face ( its something Isak dont like to talk about, and I think Jonas is the only one of his boy group friends that knows about this)
@niallp36

One of my favourite aspects of how Isak's character is depicted is that how confident, flirty and charming he is when he's chatting up girls. He has learnt how I'm sure from watching and listening to his straight friends. He's a performer and he does it well. We see his true feelings in the first episode once his friends leave the bathroom that when he flirts and kisses Emma, that it's just a performance to keep up appearances. Once Emma gets a little too close for comfort, that's when he gets panicked. However, with Even he becomes the complete opposite. Once he is confronted with someone he actually likes he has absolutely NO IDEA how to act or approach a man the way he has been with women. He can't perform his routine because this time it's not a performance. Every time he sees Even he becomes quiet and nervous, and is constantly second-guessing himself and Even's intentions. Even however is the confident one. He is the one who makes advances, where Isak inhabits the passive role. I think a lot of gay men can relate to this 'straight performance' act, and that's just another reason why I think SKAM's depiction of a gay coming-of-age story resonates so well.

Love your reaction! ❤️ I think it’s a great to see how despite Isak’s internalised homophobia, his friends are for the most part chill, and call out his behaviour. Something cool about Skam is all these clips aired in real time in Norway, so you watched the story unfold during the week and on Friday they’d combine all the clips and release a final part for the week. Friday’s clips were always the best. Every character also had their own instagram and would post in real time too, and you had access to text messages between characters. Honestly when this aired my girlfriend and I were obsessed and constantly checked for updates about how Isak and Even were doing!!

In season 1, 2 and 4 you get more insides to the girls friendgroup. Season 1 was about Eva , season 2 about Noora (the girl in London) and season 4 will be about Sana, but you also get some storyline for Vilde and Chris. Season 3 is actually a bit of a stand-out since it focuses on the boys friendgroup. For instance I think you would've liked Vilde more if you knew a bit of backstory.

You guys are at a bit of a disadvantage because you didn't watch the first two seasons. You obviously don't have to, but you'd have a lot more context about Vilde's character (she's awesome - fierce and loyal), what's going on with Isaac's mom (mental illness - depression, possibly more, Isak had to move out when his dad walked out and mom was hospitalized) , and who that was at the end (Noora - all of season 2 is about her) and why her showing up is important.

Your enthusiasm after each episode makes me so happy. 😊 I was also shook at the LOOK. The Call Your Girlfriend scene is ICONIC honestly. Loved that you want a kiss and also just some honesty and no more BS from Even, since he’s, like you said, kind of hard to read or predict where this is going, especially since you’re new to the series and the Skam format. Again, thank you so much for reacting. Can’t wait for the next episode!! ❤

12:20 if y’all had watched the first season it was all about Isak’s friend Jonas. The one who called him out for his homophobia. Since season 1 Isak has been made fun of and people calling him gay. Jonas was always there to defend Isak even though Isak was still in the closet to everyone. Of course Jonah is shocked that Isak is putting out that same negative energy he too was subjected too.

Remember seeing an interview with the creator and when researching for this series she interviewed some young gay men who didn’t personally feel like they identified with the gay community and didn’t feel like they saw other gay men like them being represented in things like the media or public in general. I can only assume that it made coming out much more confusing and isolating. She decided to explore the subject through Isaac.

Your reactions are iconic omg i love it. I think you'd really like all the other seasons of this show. Each season is centered on a different person. Noora, the girl who showed up at the end, was the main character of the previous season. Eva was for season 1 and Sana is season 4. Honestly every season is equally good in my opinion but i think Isaak's is probably the most popular. It's different from the first two seasons only because it doesn't focus so much on the girl friend group which was the primary focus before. The next season does a good job at merging that with more of a general focus of this season.

This is one of my favorite 3 episodes! Evak's chemistry is sizzling, especially in the kitchen and on the dance floor (I remember having stopped breathing when I first watched it). Also, 1. Jonas and some others in S1 were a bit homophobic to Isak, which is when he started internalizing the homophobia (you should really watch S1 after this! It has baby Isak). However, Jonas grew up and matured, while Isak took all the comments to heart and it fed his shame ("Skam"). 2. Yes, Vilde is ANNOYING as hell. However, she drives the plot so I tolerate it. Without her, there would have been no neon party! 3. Yep, men leching at women is off-putting and creepy. I think they were just showing it to emphasize the difference in reactions of Isak vs the rest. And you two ARE funny! ♥

I feel your way of interpreting things and expectations seem to be very tv-series/movies expectations and Skam is all about being realistic. It's not drama with extremes to chock etc. And god I wish you would have watched from the first season, you have missed 2 seasons of the characters and their relationships to each other so you do misinterpret a lot and missed lots of hints of things in previous seasons that click when you watch this season. But it's ok and I know people always recommend this season first so it's not your fault. But it's sad for your sake you miss out on so much and focus on stuff you wouldn't if you knew what already happened and all of theirs dynamic. ´remember that Norway and Sweden is very different from the US for example and if you are homophobic you will get called out and if you're gay it's often not something anyone react to when they find out.

I think the fact that a gay test will generally give us the answer is the reason we do them. I believe I did some back in the days of MySpace. I think it's the reassurance we get. Back during the back injury of 2013, when I got into watching KZbin, it wasn't uncommon to watch coming out videos and other LGBTQ+ content to establish community and to find other people like me. I certainly wasn't confused about my sexuality, which I'd accepted many years beforehand and came out back in 2007. My engagement to my ex-fiancé Tim had just ended a few months earlier. I definitely knew what I liked. It always frustrates me when they interrupt the kiss scene. I think Noora should have been delayed at Gardermoen so the boys could have had their kiss!

OK LISTEN no spoilers but my first time through this season I was like "wtf even is a walking red flag get away from him isak" and was so sure I wouldn't end up rewatching... but later in the season you'll get some info that will make his behavior make a lotttt more sense (still not beyond reproach but like OHH shit ok). and there's another nugget of info in s4 that really ties it all together. I've rewatched this season so many times now and I'm deeeeply attached to Even 😂 Alsooooo the boys definitely have one-track minds when left unchecked and it's annoying af, I definitely wanted to yeet them for a lot of this season BUT hopefully you'll be fond of them by the end, they were maybe my happiest surprise of the season Finally... that internalized homophobia REALLY makes isak an asshole, even in s1 😒

I think one of the things that makes Isak (all of us) fall in love with Even is that he's just constantly taking the piss. In Ep1, taking all the paper towels for no reason in front of Isak, in Ep2 goading Isak into making weird and disgusting toast with him, in this Ep telling this whole fake story about Sonya and the land mine. He's such a little shit
