Skar Audio Install in a Parker boat

My sportsman came with the JL MM 50 which is great headunit. Came with 3 pairs of JL 6.5s stock but I added 2 jl 8" subs and powered those with skar rp800.1m and the 6.5s with rp150.4. Very happy so far. Was contemplating pulling out the JL 6.5s and going with the skar 6.5s just because of what I could sell the JL speakers for!

Do you like using the bass knob instead of having the subwoofers on a zone of the mm100? I'm undecided on this. Some songs hit with so much bass and sometimes I fumble a bit going to make the adjustment on the head unit. May be better to just grab bass knob

You will find most of the JL speakers that are factory installed are actually a cheaper version then the ones they sell to consumers. Most people don't know that. If you remove one, and find the part number, you wont find it being sold anywhere. There is a lot of guys that remove their factory speakers and sell them, and replace them with the real version or better.

I like the bass knob, it came with it so there was no extra cost. I cant see the face of my had unit while I'm driving. The knob is so much easier to grab onto while moving also.

@@ChasingPelagics not surprising. They sound good but can't help but wonder if it can sound better. I still need to get my gains tweaked and stuff so I'm gonna hold out a bit. Trying to figure out if I can squeeze 2 more subs in. The bass is good when sitting in the bow in close proximity to the subs but at the helm and stern it's lacking.

If the JLs and Skars were the same price which way would you lean? Also, do the Skars sound as good as the JLs?

Cody Kline JL has multiple lines of Marine speakers, if they were the same price I would opt for the JL, but they are also almost $400 a pair. Amps I would choose Skar over JL. Subs are equal quality.

Thanks for the video. I've never run speakers at anything but the normal 4 ohms. What are the pros/cons with running them at say 2 ohms?

Its all about what the amp is designed for, so read your specs. In most cases 50 watts per channel at 4 ohms is equal to 100 watts per channel at 2 ohms, or 200 watts at 1 ohm.... but that's if your amp is built to do so. Incorrect wiring will overheat amps, blow fuses or put it into protection mode.

Can you show your power setup? Is it a zero gauge from the battery going to a double fuse block? Then 4 gauge to each amp?

Did you run the power and ground for the amps back to the batteries or to the block under the helm?

Brett Ekelmann separate power and ground run to the battery. Ran 2/0 with a separate circuit breaker.

Yes all the 6.5” speakers are on the 4ch amp

Each channel has a pair of 4ohm speakers wired in parallel making them 2ohms at the amp channel. So the amp pushes out double the power per channel. Some downside is the amp will get hotter faster and is running less efficient.

The 500W is a 4 channel amp, run the pairs in parallel at 2 ohms.

I bought these Skar 6.5 speakers for my boat but I didn't think they would fit in these tower enclosures. Did you have to do any adjusting to get them to fit properly?

Every enclosure is different, you might have to trim the inside if the enclosure with the template provided with the speakers, also check your mounting depth.

Great vid. Which amp did you roll with last year? Checking their site none of the marine amps are rated for 1 ohm now. 2 and 4 but can't find a 1 ohm rated.

The 800rms mono block is rated at 1 ohm that’s what driving my sub. 4 pairs of 6.5s are wired at 2ohms on the 4 channel amp 75.4ABM

I just started commissioning my AP, just the first steps and I am pretty close to the line with magnetic interference in regards to the P9 compass. It's mounted about 4ft away from where my sub and amps need to go. Wondering if you got a lot more mag interference after installing your system.
