Today I'm revisiting Riders Republic Skate and talking about what could potentially be Skate 4's biggest rival if Ubisoft were to make a full skateboarding game building on the skate mechanics of Riders Republic.
A new Ubisoft skate game could involve the same things as Skate 4 like:
Online multiplayer
New tricks
New mechanics
World map
Story mode
Replay editor
Customization

Love Riders Republic, but the skateboarding in it sucks. Too easy, too floaty, and slide too much on the ground. Sessions still holds the title at the moment for the best realistic skate game.

The animations are so good. You can even see the skaters foot adjust before flipping out of manuals

@@nathanskates98 Sure they still need some work but there's no doubt these animations look better than Session and SXL. Imagine if those games had this type of animations but still being able to tweak your tricks and stuff.

Hey man! I don't know if you knew this, but I've noticed that you open up the session marker menu to go back to your previously set session marker. You can simply click the down button on the D pad + x (or square). I find it less annoying when I'm trying out a line.

I own it. Beat it... tried BMX and skateboarding... it wasn't worth it to me to purchase the dlc for em. The controls hold it back.

I've been playing this alot lately...I'm having a lot of fun, but the controls are brutal. I honestly think the controls don't work for any of the sports...so the excuse that it's ,"Skateboarding in an action sports game so the controls aren't tailed for it" is jsut that an excuse. Trickster are the only controls that are usable. The others are abhorrent.

I kinda enjoy the skill ceiling. It definitely has some jank, and that is attributed to the engine/systems they already have. Like you can do nollie tricks with Y input but you can't do any nollie spins because as with all the other sports in the game the X/Y input +spin = mistys etc. Not lateral spins. The combinations for trick inputs also don't make that much sense but I can look over that. Overall it is a lot better than I expected tbh. As for the "it's a sports game" argument. You say it's an excuse, and it is. That doesn't mean that the excuse isn't valid though. The way they made the rest of the game heavily influenced how they make every new sport, that's just how it is. You don't have to like that excuse, but that doesn't mean that it's not a reasonable explanation for the jank. It has the most complex trick system out of every sport in the game, and it also has the best vert/grabs of any modern skate game. And it's not even a skate game! It's just a dlc. You gotta keep that in mind. Now if they were to release a stand alone skate game with these controls, then we'd have a problem. But that's not what this is.

Top tip for playing Rider's - go into your sound options and turn dialogue/voice down to 0. Did that 5mins in, 300hours later, never turned it back on XD

I won’t lie, I’m highly disappointed that in this resurgence of new Skate games, NONE OF THEM are open world. I think the more realistic controls is what helped Skate kill Tony Hawk in the ps3/360 era…. But an underrated part of that game killing tony hawk was the world that you skated in feeling so alive, I think that helped a lot of casuals that don’t skate in real life interested in the game. It used to be a vibe just hopping on with your created skater, or an actual pro with no goals and just skating around the city…. A vibe that’s been extinct since Skate 3

@@IAmTheBestMang I feel it does what it needs to well enough. I find myself skating from spot to spot in soo many locales. Even smaller levels like the Mall or Sewer. Philly and NYC and SF are large and to their credit are broken up even more in all of the other skate games.

Granted it did LOOK the most like a living breathing city, but what I’m talking about is more of the cars driving past and honking when you’re in the way, people walking living their everyday lives and jumping out the way when you pass them or them chasing you down because you ran into them and now are skating away, security kicking you out of city spots because skatings not allowed … there’s a lot more to “skate culture” that makes it entertaining/interesting to casuals in game form besides the skating looking realistic, and it just seems like none of these newer skating games are implementing any of those things. I feel like all of that “extra stuff”, on top of just the skateboarding being good, played a huge aspect in Skate taking over the skateboarding genre in gaming, and in my opinion, the first new skate game that can offer that will be the one that reigns supreme.

Would be cool to one day set up spots and such and have to eat during a skate day... one day we will get a skate sim.

No one can touch skates flick stick. Session is dope asf and if your a real skater once session clicks you'll be hooked. But riders Republic is disrespectful af to skateboarding. And the controls are ass bro. And it's boring af after 30 hours. Skate isn't going to have any competition lmao they're their own shit.

I like skates controls for just fucking around, and riding around the city doing tricks easily, but i definitely think I prefer session/skater XL controls. It makes it feel the closest to actual skating, and I never have to "battle" for a trick in skate. Session I've had to figure tricks out and really try for them, which makes it sick feeling when you land a clean one. But if I just wanna ride around landing tricks and exploring, I like skate controls for sure

You're right, Skate wont have any competition because they seem to be more worried about making a game about fucking around instead of skating. Nothing I have seen from Skate 4 has even remotely made me interested or excited.

I think this is accurate skate is just it's own level skateboarding but since you mentioned session does anyone know if skate will have a mods shop like there is in session or will it just be something you can adjust in settings like all other skates? I actually found that really cool and gives the user total control of his /her skateboard. the in home workshop is so narly a lot of people really like it. and gives the skater full customization of the grip tape, trucks, wheels, widths even grind plates. There is nothing you can't do 🗜to your skateboard in session which is why I love it so much! 💯💯 I friggin fell in love with that game. 😎

Can't wait to see it back in action. 😎 I think a lot of people can't. a lot of people have been waiting in the wings for a new game and to think they was never gonna come out of what I call retirement is just crazy to me the fans were steadily on EA that they eventually gave 🏳in! 😂😄 They kept demanding we get a new game I was cool with Session and Skater XL but neither possess the clutchness of EA's 🛹Skate. 😎

The animations look great but it feel and looks so incredibly floaty, it puts me off to it. Everything looks fine until they player model starts coming back down and it's like half gravity or something, it just doesn't look right and just from watching I don't like the way it feels. Hopefully they can polish that up a little bit!
