Finally I found a good griptape review with all bigger griptape brands. Haven't tried Mob or Grizzly (but I definitely will). Love Shake-Junt so far, even though it isn't the gripiest. It's a cosmetic thing, however I really like the reflections/shine/glitter effect of the griptape when your skating outside. Some brands from Germany (Emillion and Titus), doesn't have it that much.

Kolton McCallister I’m curious as to what kind of Mob grip you have skated (M80, the standard, etc). I’ve skated the standard twice and i didn’t find it thick at all, actually it felt rather thin, however I could totally see how the heavy granulation makes it feel thick.

@@Skatebetter my current deck is a blind full concave. The one before it was an enjoi? If I recall correctly. But I've had various deck brands. Which one helps shoes last longer, Shake Junt or Grizzly?
@Skatebetter5 жыл бұрын
why did i waste my time on this If I’m being honest- i think Shake Junt and Grizzly can both do some damage when they are fresh, and ultimately in my opinion I’d say Shake Junt “smoothes out” faster so I’d give them the win as far as not damaging your shoes.

Depends on what you ride and what kind of tricks. I love mob especially on flat concave, The more i ride concave boards the more ive been riding SJ, same with doing fliptricks on 8.8 shapes. If i get mob on concave i blast through laces and shoes. Its the right amount of grip though for flat/mellow/shallow concave especially fliptricks i really feel my board and flick fs flips with mob. But one of my favorite tricks are nollie halfcabs Mob on concave is a completely different style of doing them big. I started running venture 6.1s on those setups too from my indy 159s. Same height bc stage X and stage 9s are around the same height of venture highs. Just kind of depends on the type of skating youre doing, if im riding an 8.8-9.25 strictly for bowls/grinds/airs. Id take mob, but if i want to ride an 8.8 for some slappy and fliptrick fun ill go with SJ. The grip affects how i shove out of nose/tail slides...mob tends to be more sticky and less flick, especially depending on the nose/tail shape and how they lock in and pop out. I mean PJ skates jessup among a few others and hes a gold standard street skater so i dont really pick sides just try stuff out myself. But mob has a signature feel for fs flips that really brings them home for me. Gonna try a twin tail ishod 8.38 He rides SJ so it wil be the second pop i try with SJ ive ridden 2 shapes so far. But i havent skated the ventures with mob grip so ill probably run that on the twin tail once i go through a flat baker. Mob also brings the bs360s and full-cabs home too. TBH i only really skated SJ bc of their team and figured its passing grade bc foy, reynolds, ishod, spencer etc so many rad skaters run it....but tbh its bc they set up boards often so its a perfect grip when brand new. For a long-standing quiver id stick with mob. Gum soles and mob grip and suede/leather upper is just something you either get used to and die hard or move on from. When covid hit my shop didnt have blank mob for a good window which is when i was willing to try SJ, bc i didnt want to ride a graphicd mob grip. Whats weird is the shop told me it would be grippy, but i was like w.e i guess its rider approved. Just the dirtier/older it gets the worse it feels but then again bakers soften up too and that its own territory of boardfeel/grip/snap etc. And LOL i once bought a bargain bin 35$ toy machine didnt even know the size other than a line up with my deck. It was the first time i rode a flat deck with a flat nose/tail. On jessup my foot would come off ollies on sets id eat shit so hard XD sometimes my nose would barely get up. Yet i love flat for street/fliptricks just with mob LOL. Also with SJ you really have to sand the edges of your grip job so you dont catch it with fliptricks or flipping into a slide and dark slide. If theres any grip it will peel/rip etc. I chipped a brandnew setup trying to fs flip a hip and lukily i was able to extract the chip w.o tearing the girp bc it was so fresh...if it was broken in that would be gone. I would havg glued the chip back in if it was my main ride or on the toe side. Nothing worse than a fat chip on the first week of a setup. The boards 32.75 length so its definitely its own deal it blasts though with no speed needed. Grips good though on SJ not insane like mob but i got boardslide reverts with SJ on rails/boxes to flat which is nice to whip out in a session. essentially fall out of a boardslide land 90 then revert while trying not to lose speed. SJ has a good feel for smith/lip lock ins the way your feet grip those tricks it really applys to the boardslide reverts. Then again Mob is more ideal in pools for that pivot out of boardslides and nose slides. Concave and shapes really is that middle ground for mob with me. The ppl asking about shoe efficacy is ironic, Mob i can just tap the mid nose of my board mid ollie to kickflip less grip especially on flat concave i need to drag my foot a lot more to do kick flips or 3 flips so by that aspect overall you ruin shoes with less grippy grip bc you have to have youre shoe sideways/dragging more to flick. Mob you can flick a lot of tricks with your toe cap, especially with concave. But fresh mob on brand new shoes is only something i do in rare occasions just to know what it feels like to be sponsored LMAO like wow this break in period of grip and fresh gum/cap rubber is so rare. If youre shoes are already broken in/destroyed fresh mob is like heaven. people really dont do enough half-cabs and it shows....if they really knew how easy it was to blow a cuff on a shoe or a low profile shoe....and i do nollies so i blow out the toe in the front foot and the heel/cuff in the back. I could care less about how bad my grip is for my shoes and put more emphasis on shoe design/wear. Talking as someone that loved skating rowley pro's growing up that knew they lasted all about one day of skating, they were a race to see if the toe cap blew out or the box/upper first.

Prolly a dumb question but does any sticky grip tape exist that doesn’t destroy your shoes?
@Skatebetter4 жыл бұрын
joseph bachtel As far as “real” griptape goes, not that i know of my g. I know there’s a company that makes a “fake” griptape in like a rubber material that won’t destroy your shoes, but it has some different properties than real griptape from what I’ve seen (thicker, less sticky, etc.). I know it’s a bummer, but i think most skaters except their shoes are gonna get beat up given enough time. Good luck out there homie!

joseph bachtel DKL Non Abrasive Rubber Grip. Might take some getting used to but your shoes will last infinitely longer. Might not be the choice you want for transition but for flat(ish) there’s no reason not to save your shoes. Just make sure you watch the tutorial on how to apply it so it doesn’t peel too easily.

They aren't the same material so, colored/clear griptape isn't as durable & doesn't last as long. That being said I love skating clear grip so I don't have to make cuts in my grip tape, you get to see those top graphics. There is the trade off of possibly having to replace it before the life of the deck is spent. I have personally had excellent luck with Black Diamond Grip, been skating it since I was a teenager.
