Pro Tip: When parking in cold weather, move your truck forward and back about every 15 minutes until your tires get cooled down (about an hour). Tires heat up on the highway and if you park on ice or packed snow, your tires will melt the ice and will then freeze your tires to the ground. It happened to me in North Dakota. An old timer told me moving your truck just a foot or so would prevent that from happening. He was right!

I Live/Haul in the Dakota's and have never had that happen. We run them, and then shut them down. Drum brakes frozen? Everyday. Tires? Not yet.

@@jayson1270 I had it happen to me. Just my luck, I guess. Hell, my personal vehicle, a '71 K5 Blazer froze to the ground several times when I lived in Wyoming. Right in the driveway next to my house. I had an engine heater, so no problem starting when it was -30°, but my tires would be so frozen to the ground, that I would have to put it in 4wd low and pop the clutch to break it loose from the ground. That was before I learned about the cooling down trick. You living and working in the Dakotas, I don't need to tell you about cold weather, but I pulled belly-dumps on the Tennaco project in Green River, WY and there were times that we had to burn smudge pots under the motors to thin up the engine oil enough to allow our motors to turn over. That would happen after a particularly cold holiday weekend in the winter and it was before multi-vis oils became popular. The only other option was to leave the trucks idle all weekend. I also spent some time rough-necking on triples in Wyoming. Nothing like working the floor, making wet connections when it's deathly cold. Yeah, cold sucks.

Becca , I'm in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada above North Dakota where it gets cold as heck. I've done deck work for the past 14 +1/2 years up here at 75 years old and still going. I've trucked in the Yukon in the mid 70's and done winter roads here in Manitoba and Northern Ontario. So I've worked in some pretty cold weather. Since I was a kid we've worn what we call garbage mitts up here. They're a wool mitt inside a leather mitt. They got they're name from the garbage men up here in the 40's and 50's. A mitt keeps body heat close to each finger , where gloves keep your fingers apart and they don't heat each other. You will get used to throwing straps with them as well. Us drivers have tried every glove you can think of with no luck. Just thought I would suggest that seeing you freeze your hands , been there also.. Good luck and safe travels going South. Well I liked that video Becca. Brings back memories for sure, kind of miss those days. Life was not simpler back then for me. As a driver as you know you are at the mercy of everyone and everything. Some loads cause you no pain and others from the get go are pains in the butt. Things can be so good out there and on the flip of a dime it goes south in a heart beat. I do miss it. But knows best I do not go back out. Anywho Becca ya look like your a pro out there, ya know your job, have a great and a safe day, happy trails….

lol. gotta love your dogs....love watching your channel....im retiring from the fire service in 17 months and thinking about going OTR. Ive been driving (on my days off from fd), to boston and NYC for the last 8 yrs--dedicated Target account. Home daily and its really not that bad as far as the pay goes. ( I actually drive for 2 companies)...whoever as the work, thats where I go. I give you tons of credit for doing what you do at such a young age.....Keep going and be safe out there.....

Winter weather can be a beast. I used to keep the straps on the cab floor in the winter. They get hard when frozen for sure. Carry a thick sleeping bag in case you need it during a big bad storm and your trapped out on the road.

I’ve seen Becca walk in her bare feet on the ice covered parking lot and throw snowballs at her dad. She sleeps with her windows down when it’s below zero. She almost froze her father to death when she rolled down the windows when he was sleeping. 😂

Look for mitten gloves! Or Lined plastic gloves! Lobster fishermen use them, flexible plastic/rubber, usually orange in color. Waterproof!

Even your puppies look quiet and subdued. Your dogs are so loving and sweet. You need to get you a pair of Carhart Overalls. Also the make little hand warmer things that produce heat chemically when you activate them. They are like little packets. You can slip them inside your gloves to keep your hands war Prayers for a safe drive for you!

I have nothing but respect for long haul drivers. I would occasionally help my cousin move furniture across the US and it could be rough sometimes. Trailer full of furniture split between different states. Always picking up and dropping off. I miss seeing all the different places tho and getting to visit places I never would have otherwise.

interesting way to transport containers in eu we have special trailers for those no chains or straps the container locks in the frame directly. some trailers have even build in unloading system with arms on the trailer so u can unload / load the container yourself directly from the ground. when the straps r frozen just put them in a bag in the cabin to unfreeze them before rolling them i kept them under the bed all the time. safe trips

You know those dogs have internal senses that they try to tell us things and it sometimes is us , and other times in them there are a ton of thing dogs do that explain deficiencies or needs or pain possibly and other things that they might be experiencing and trying to tell us by touching biting there feet itching rolling in grass sneezing chewing there’s a there might be a place somewhere or you can look it up and let you see what they’re wanting the dogs, ok thanks the dude coming over to help was standing back a wachting you and saying wow she’s pretty, that is what he’s was thinking lololol good job thanks BigAl California.

I've worked outside all my life. Get some brown jersey gloves and a good pair of calfskin gloves to fit over them, your fingers will stay relatively warm and you'll still have dexterity. Get two or three pair on case they get wet. I love the dogs and you make me smile. Best regards from Indiana.

I haven’t been OTR in 15 years. Some of those lonely places don’t look they have changed a bit. I don’t know which I hated worse, throwing chains or pulling tarp? Don’t miss either. Next time your in a big TA or Loves or Flying J, look for a pair of neoprene rubber gloves. They keep your hands warm in the coldest weather, wet or dry. Love your dogs. It must be a great comfort to have them along. Your doing great. Keep up the good work driver. fM

Well in my trucking world chains I’d cables go on iron edges like that, or edge protection corners under the nylon straps to keep them fro getting cut , that should be the proper way to bind down iron loads , I got a ticket 🎫 one time for using nylon cargo straps on a metal iron load, so just saying thanks beautiful thanks BigAl California
