Fixing a chipped skateboard deck is very cheap and easy. Save money by repairing your deck.
Go to ratvision.com/ for more info.
For great prices on Longboard and Skateboard equipment we recommend

Razor Tail and Delamination:
If the plies of wood have separated, from delamination, or you have razor tail, check out this video:
• Fix Skateboard Razor T...
Fixing A Chipped Skateboard Deck:
Chips usually occur when a skateboard slams into a wall or curb, or lands on the nose or tail from doing a trick. They cracks and chips can also happen if the tail has been worn down making the plies of wood thin. This is known as "razor tail".
The steps shown in this video do not work for all types of chips.
This is especially true where the bottom plies of wood have been chipped off. Wood filler is brittle and not nearly as strong as wood.
Bottom ply chips may be better fixed with just wood glue, or wood glue with some saw dust.
Wood filler is great for chips on the top plies of wood that do not come in contact with the ground when popping the board. If wood filler is applied to the bottom plies of a deck, the wood filler can break off. This is where glue and reshaping the deck may be a better fix. This is seen in the Skateboard Razor Tail and Delamination video link above.
Cost for Repair: About $8
For many people who don't have the money to put toward a new skate deck, this is a great way to prolong the life of your skateboard.
FAQ:
• How long does it take for wood filler to dry?
Roughly 24 hours.
• Will this affect the pop?
It shouldn't because now the plies are stiff and solid as one piece. You should have pretty good pop after this.
If you have any questions about skateboard or longboard products and brands, send us a message.

Over the years I’ve wished I did this a bit better. I’ve also read comments with some better suggestions too. The video is still good. I think for smaller chips, this works. Saw dust with wood glue could work too. Wood filler can be too brittle with large chips. Glad this has worked out for you all these years. Got any suggestions for future videos?

True. Sometimes it's not a big deal, but not everyone lives in the USA where decks are cheap. Most places, outside the US, decks start at over $80. A lot of people want to make their decks last as long as possible. A friend of mine who is a pro vert skater was so picky about shapes. When he found one that flipped good he actually busted the nose one day and asked me if I could repair it. He could get free decks anytime, but this deck shape felt good. So, repairs are work for a lot of people.

That works too. There are always multiple ways to do things. This method does not work on big chips for the reasons you mentioned. Out method works for small chips on the top surface.

If you have a longboard that has cut-outs for the wheels that has plywood that has chipped out completely, it might just be more economical to screw in a new piece of wood and add a plastic guard over it. In all of my custom deck's I dip the tips into colored silicone in order to prevent further chipping, also it looks really cool.

I love your enthusiasm, and you are right about glue and saw dust. Unfortunately, most people don't have wood glue sitting around, so they'll need to go buy it. They probably don't have saw dust that has been carefully placed in a jar that is now sitting on a shelf above the toilet. That's where I keep my saw dust preserves. They will need to saw something like a chair leg. So, buying wood glue and making saw dust versus just buying wood filler and a putty knife... wood filler wins. Sorry.

Also there is a little trick, that old time woodworkers use. Instead of using "Wood Filler" you can mix some saw dust, and glue. You will get almost the same result. =)
@RatVision
@RatVision 10 жыл бұрын
Yeah it works great too. Skaters aren't wood workers, so they'd have to get a saw and some wood, make saw dust, and go get wood glue. Since they need to get wood glue, it might be a lot easier to just get wood filler. That's why.

We have a video for this exact thing that has not been released yet. It will be out next week. In short, take the chunk out or any wood that has got between the plies. With a flat screw diver pry open the plies and squirt in wood glue between the plies. Clamp the plies and let them dry over night. Then sand the edge of the deck and reshape nose or tail with sand paper. Did the plies actually split in the center/middle of the deck?

It depends on the chip. Usually a chip happens from razor tail, and once you get a chip it can get worse and worse. This isn't for everyone or every situation. If you don't feel you need to fix a chip than this isn't for you.

You can try to peel back just the problem area. As long as the grip is still sticky and you can totally avoid getting any dust on it you may be able to stick it back on. Most likely it won't.

Oh man, you fell for the classic sales trick. That's $20, plus tax for some states and shipping. Also, I would say "nope" to that, too. That's going to be the shittiest wood and lamination process they can use. It's going to fall apart faster than the repair job in this video. Also, he did the repair for $10, so still less than half the cost of buying that deck.

Sorry for the late reply. Most of you r answers are in the video. The time it takes for the putty to dry is written on the container. Usually 24 hours. Do it won't effect the way you skate. And you can reshape the tail so it isn't square. Go over the grip tape for a couple minutes or when it becomes hard to peel off.

He'll then point you in the direction of either Barabara St. Ambiguous or Jefferson Corduroy-Dangertown, depending on the time of year. If you're lucky, and believe me, vey lucky they might be kind enough to share with you a few jokes or engage you in an oyster eating contest. quick solution to the squeeze bottle is to cut the nozzle a little bit bigger and it should flow out quite evenly

That sucks! Was it before or after watching this video? We just did a new video on only removing grip tape and emphasize on not forcing the blade.

I used to use my trucks to file the grip tape but it's really nice to have a file. You can get one for pretty cheap at harbor freight

it most likely is. We have new videos hopefully posting today. One is about razor tail and chips. It's like a pre-quel to this video.

We have a video coming out tomorrow that shows this exactly. Use wood glue, not wood filler when the plies come apart.

i had the problem with the tube's also but then i found out how to fix that.I'm 14 and nervous as i was i was actually squeezing and massaging the tube(I know it sounds funny, but i'm dutch and i don't know how else to put it).and when i watched your video and got to it myself it was really easy to squeeze out.

Personally, I would love to see a video where you put a skateboard together completely. Start with the deck, grip it, mount the trucks, put the bearings and wheels in, but add the "SkateboardTech" feel by explaining WHY you put it together a certain way. I feel like it would be really helpful to know what exactly a skateboard is and does.

Going to try this, I scored a sweet Anti Hero deck a while back, but it has a huge chip in the tail. Otherwise its in great shape, so i have it on my wall right now

Don't forget the difference between silicon carbide and aluminum oxide grit. Which one is better. Do you think any pro knows the difference, or do they just ride the grip tape from the brand who pays the most money?

Oh my god this is genius. I never thought of that. Thank god i saw this because my board has a huge chip in the tail and i dont want to buy a new one.

Yes it will come off pretty easily, but it's better than nothing. This is not going make a deck feel or function like brand new, but with decks ranging in price from $25-60 it's worth it to a lot of people to have their decks last longer.

How long did you have the deck? Did you get it wet or leave it in a hot car for a few days?

Everyone is a critic. For some people, buying a new deck is a better idea and so they feel that giving this a thumbs down is a good idea because it is irrelevant to them. We don't get it either. It's like this video offended them, or felt it is so stupid that nobody would ever want to fix there board. Over 67,500 views proves people care.
