I've make ice skating rinks a couple of times. We played hockey on them every winter. A couple suggestions that will be helpful. 1. Use clear or white plastic, black reflects the sun and melts the ice. 2. Don't shovel off the snow, melt it with the hose as you water the ice. Saves on water bill. 3. String up construction lights. In the winter it gets dark earlier. You can skate and play hockey at night. It is also colder at night, spray it at night Good luck.
@MM-zj8be5 жыл бұрын
black absorbs sun. does not reflect.

Yup. It will absorb heat and help melt the ice. When I make the ice skating rink I tend to not want that, but to each their own.

Wow you are so amazing... Please tell us all how to do everything that we are doing wrong better! You are so smart! We should defer to you on everything! Especially how “black plastic reflects the sun!” Maybe you should try something like this instead... “Hey great job, looks like it worked out great for you! I have made some ice rinks too, this is what worked for me!” Then you won’t sound like such a condescending a-hole! Oh great and all knowing king of making ice rinks!
@michaeltretina5 жыл бұрын
I didn't realize how sensitive you are. I made some suggestions that could improve the final outcome of the project. I learned the hard way by making mistakes and felt that someone besides me might benefit from what I learned. It's kind of an exchange of ideas. So sorry that my comment offended you. @SkateforGold6 жыл бұрын
Well that is a hard question. Our temperatures are normally in the 20's but this year has been difficult so far. We had perfect ice but it was -10F to -19F, then it snowed, then it turned 45F. Like right now it is 38F and melting. I love it when I get to skate and I believe I get good practice on it. No big jumps, but foot work and spins. Winters have been unpredictable and some years I get more time than others. When it gets messed up it can take a few hours of work to get it smooth again.
