34 y/o dad of 3 from Southern Alberta, just got a Landyachtz atv, never skateboarded before, a couple hours on my bro's longboard for the first time and said shortly after, "I think it's time for me to learn how to skateboard"... maybe 20 years late at the game but I'm happy to start now. Thank you, JB, for your videos AND your enthusiasm AND the slow motion clips :P

Hello again! Thank you again! In your ollie video you say the ollie will be your reward. I'm really sticking to that. The basics, just stick to the basics. It seems every pro says "just learn[ride] your darn board" So I go, I ride, I push. Push goofy(me,) push regular, fakie, nollie, rinse and repeat. Make it smooth, glide. 180's, attempted reverts and manuals. My legs are on fire; almost everyday for an hour or more. No ollies. Don't even want to try -- have not tried. But shuvits, no pop, just shuvits, hippie jumps, hop-flips, and primo drops are all I want to do. For now; build strength. the scoop for the shuvit is stupidly fun to do again and again, same with the hop-flip. Its ridiculous. Why the hell am I grinning so much. The point to these ramblings... I was working on shuvits to round out the night. Scoop and repeat. I finally added the jump. And after 15 or so Id even landed 2, poorly, but landed them I did. Victory! Thank you! But one time, one time! near the end, I /accidentally/ pulled off an ollie. What a reward!! The progression in your videos is deliberate as eff. I see it. I watch others, but hands down you are the best teacher on youtube. Thank you once again. Also, thanks too to your crew, I know it takes a team. John -39, noob, started for the gf. Now its for me! PS, I will be contributing, when I get my next student loan.

Emphasizing on the basics, how to bend your foot for the scoop, how to scoop (diagolly or straight back), how to claw the deck, do you push down on the tail to get the front wheels up, so board can rotate on the back wheels, etc... Biggest difference is that shuvits & pop shuvits share the same name, but are done differently: shuvits are merely for rotating the board underneath your front foot to switch nose/tail and is done with a sweeping motion of the feet in opposite directions (I think the best looking shuvits are low, fast, and the front foot never comes up off the board); they're not really supposed to be stylish, they're more of a utilitarian function for swapping nose/tail really quick. Pop shuvits however are an actual trick with style, but you don't do them like you're trying to do a regular shuvit. You can't learn a shuvit and then try to shuvit "harder" to turn them into pop shuvits. For pop shuvits, you're not using both feet to spin the board as much as you are using your back foot to slam down on the toe edge part of the tail during your pop to let the energy get the board rotating and in the air enough for you to suck up your legs.

When you say jump forward, do you mean the way I'm facing or towards the front of the board

I feel like giving up I ve been trying for monthes and my pop shove it is almost perfect.. if only my back foot would go on. I finally landed it after trying it on the grass a couple of times then took it to concrete. Land ed primo few times which was fine. Then I go to practice it again in a couple days and BAM mental block. Now I feel like I will never get it. Any tips on getting the back foot on would be appreciated 😃😃

Nice video bro, im from Portugal and i start skate since one month and im trying to do a shuv it, but its hard, i dont know how people say its a "easy trick" xD
@SkateparkLessons3 жыл бұрын
Haha it’s not an easy trick, the beginner tricks are hardest because you have nothing to compare it to. Follow my video and let me know when you get it! 💙🛹💙

Very good content, as usual. One question: At 3:55 when you say jump forward, do you mean forward in the riding direction, or forward "in front" of yourself. BTW, do you have a Patreon account? Thanks.

Jump forward a bit over your toes since that’s where the board will end up 💙🛹💙 no Patreon, I don’t have the time.

When I was growing up, there was a clear difference between a shove-it and a varial. These would be considered varials.

Actually there is a regular FS Shuvit without pop. But it seems to me that everyone thinks that this trick does not exist or is not possible to make.

I can shove my board just right, but I can't lift my back foot up afterwards. Like- That's basically the only issue. I can land with one foot, but can't get the back one up. Help anyone?

Classic problem, Back foot goes on the tip of the tail and not in the corner of the tail. Pop straight back, use your front foot to throw your pop shuv it. Catch it with your front foot first. Hope this helps. 💙🛹💙
