This video does a really good job at explaining the basics. Do you have any suggestions how to turn from backwards to forwards while skating at faster speeds?
@Skatie Жыл бұрын
This should work at all speeds but you just need to be very sure footed as at speed a slightly misplaced foot will definitely be more of a problem. You could also try flicking round with both feet on either the front or back trucks. That’s a nice one at speed that I use a lot.

12:06 My shoulders should follow the line of the circle? The body turns like a corkscrew…shoulders, hips, then feet! I imagine the edge! However, the shoulders stay with the edge. What happens when I turn from front to back, I was turning onto a flat. Now I imagine the my arms are tracing the line by bringing my shoulder to face an arc. Question. I keep my speed from front to back. Back to front has been a struggle. Figure practice paid off. But your video is priceless. I would love to see a video on the use of the shoulders and trunk. Thx. Have a lovely day.
@Skatie Жыл бұрын
Love the idea of a corkscrew rotating! Brilliant!! Think of the back to front as a t-push and use those two inside wheels to get a good push. Sounds like you’re doing amazing! Well done ⭐️💕🛼🏆

as always very nice video !! can you also make one like this for a 3 turn backwards to forwards? I am still struggling with those ? One I day I love to be able to do travellings . but I am not there yet !
@Skatie2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. If you practice the turns in this video but lift the supporting foot then that will be 3 turns backwards to forwards.
@luablau2 жыл бұрын
Gotta try it!!! Is the video showing from easier to harder? Specially the first two: easier without the toe stop? Forwards to backwards came easily to me, but backwards to forwards... I always have to stop, turn and then start again.

I don’t think I’ve put them in any particular order. Some may come easier than others. You can do it! Have fun and take your time. 💕⭐️🛼🛼

At 5:09, would this execution of movement be the same as an outward Mohawk? ( you would bring that free foot back to the tracing foot then push off?) I think this maybe why I am struggling on the Collegiate. I am landing that foot too far away to be able to put weight on it to push off. I hope I explained that correctly. Does this make sense what I am asking?
@Skatie2 жыл бұрын
Yes 100% correct. If the foot goes down forwards too far from the skating foot the weight will be too much between the two feet. Definitely bring it back to the heel first. One of my favourite dances, despite having to go straight into the cross rolls. It has a beautiful flow to it.

A question kind of unrelated to backwards skating. I have a pair of Riedell Dart speed skates and I have indoor wheels. I want to skate outdoors and I'm not sure what kind of wheels to use for them. Do you have any recommendations?
@Skatie2 жыл бұрын
As long as the wheels are soft so around a 78a - 85a. Bigger wheels are also good outside as they give the kingpin better ground clearance. So around a 60mm
@mnkypushinbutins2 жыл бұрын
@@Skatie thank you Katie! I wasn't sure what I should use.
@Harleywayne Жыл бұрын
I was being nosey and I can recommend a really awesome outdoor wheel. Look into Atom Pulse wheels 65mm 78A. I’ve had no problems with them scraping the screws hold the boot to the plate…and I ride my trucks loose. A second runner up would be Radar Energy wheels with the same specs. Skate Free Skate Fam! 🛼
back to forwards is sooooo hard!! ive been practicing consistently for a couple months now, one of my skate mates picked it up in a few hours😩

Did you ever notice that Moxy skates are hugely heavy and for small girls with delicate ankles, the Moxies are a death trap?
@Skatie2 жыл бұрын
I have never worn a moxi skate so I cannot comment unfortunately. Skates in general are pretty heavy and beginner skates tend to be heavy compared to more professional skates.
@denisewhite-jn8dp5 ай бұрын
I'm a retired professional skater. What theybneed to know isbhow to transfer weigh from one sidebto thr other and keep the weight in the center. If they don't know how to do that they're just going to fall backwards what they should do is learn how to do the butterfly when going backwards you called it a bubble it's actually called the butterfly. That's the best way to learn how to skate backwards. They need to learn how to use their upper body because your upper body is actually controling their lower part of the body when skating.
@Skatie4 ай бұрын
I’ve always called a bubble a snake pattern but it seems the most common name currently in the skate community is a bubble, Absolutely agree about the upper body and weight transfer, I have videos on all of those too. 😂.
@denisewhite-jn8dp4 ай бұрын
@Skatie sorry for any typos in my previous comment. I went skating about 1 year ago. At the rink they had an instructor there who clearly really didn't know what she was doing or how to teach roller skating and her method. I'm a retired professional roller skater from 1987 to 1989 here in New York I was in Starlight Express and trust me I miss skating but for 2 years I had my fare share of skating but continued to compete in local skating competitions. When the so-called instructor told the people when making the turn around the rink to put all their weight on their left side I had to step in and tell them no you never put all your weight onto one side especially the left side when you're making that left turn. If you do it's going to be a recipe for disaster and your weight is just going to keep you going more and more to the left and you might have a hard time stopping I told them what you need to do is use your upper body and your midsection slightly to the left and you will make the turn with no problem at all. Well the ones that did listen to the instructor they ended up banging into the center rails. The ones that listen to me made it around the turn with ease. Do you have a Facebook page I can follow?
