As a kid I was fascinated with the pier and it's destruction I first visited in 1981 and the pier had been broken up for only 3 years yet at that age it seemed so far away I still have the pictures I took in 81 and then 82 of what was left It's interesting to see this knowing that it was the piers last summer and within 6 months it would be no more.

When the Pier was cut off the council put up warning signs that the actual end of the Pier/building was highly dangerous! Because of the signs my elder brother & his mate got some old Army climbing rope & grappling hook, which was actually from WWII, they swam out to the Pier climbed up a section of steel support, then threw the rope & hook up, it took several attempts to get the hook, hooked up but eventually did! Both of them went into the building and went about scrounging and was in the building all day. When they decided they've seen enough both scrambled down the rope but couldn't couldn't free the hook so left it there and dived into the water, my brother came back to the caravan complete with small sealed bags of old sweets & toys as well as a mountain of pennies.....Me Mam asked my brother where'd he got all the stuff from? He replied...''Well mum we've been inside the Pier all day and that's what we found''..... She went bonkers then but after she calmed down she asked what it was like inside, besides a lot of smashed windows all perfect but no electricity so it was pretty dark in places. My brother went to go on another run a week later and swam to the Pier again, but soon came back as the rope & grappling hook was gone.

I worked as a redcoat at Skegness! It was a bit dull and morbid when it rained! I think I was homesick for the south!

Would be great if the pier and theater were at some point rebuilt. Doubt it will happen. No latter day counter part to Norman Wisdom either. Jolly Fisherman always seemed to have four layers of clothing on.

what the fuck does it have to do with the reporter on how much people pay on holiday its people like him that sends the british summer holidays nose diving when it is picking up and ur holiday destinations are doing everything possible to improve the area to bring back the holiday makers back to our sea sides rather than spending hundreds going abroad yes the weather is the largest factor but that's something we have to live with and take a gamble
