I was reluctant but was board so checked it out - and was pleasantly surprised. There’s a lot I don’t like about Disney Star Wars, but when they move in the right direction it’s important to support that because that just reinforces the message.

Agreed - way too many people who have adopted the "don't watch or pay for anything" attitude, that really can only end in destruction of the IP we love because the conclusion drawn from that will simply be that nobody wants more Star Wars at all. The most effective method is absolutely to support what we enjoy, and let Disney know when we liked what they are doing so they green light more of it.

Thank you, this is my point. Many of the people saying they arent watching dont agree even with each other on what they want. We are at this point where people are just unhappy, but they can't tell you what they want... or what they want makes no sense. I want good star wars, but very few fans really know what it is they want until they see it.... and if they dont watch, they will never know if its what they wanted. But so many fans are jaded and upset because of the past mistakes, that nothing will appease them, and there is little anyone can do about it.

@@tbirdguy1Nah it's not some divine puzzle like you want to portray it as, it's actually incredibly simple. Fire KK and demote Disney Slop Wars to EU tier so it can be ignored by those who don't like it and included by those who do. Two steps will give you an legit chance to reboot fandom and win people back. From there you just need to make quality content and not infringe or destroy George's stories.

idk about 'type' of star wars shows I'd really want, but i know for a fact that the quality needs be good. Skeleton crew and Andor both have good dialogue, filmmaking, set design, VFX, and neat camera shots, and they are as tonally different as can be. Shows like Ahsoka or Acolyte (or god forbid Book of Boba Fett) were just so... dull, dull to the point that other flaws were highlighted to the point they became worse. so yeah as long as they are clearly competently crafted and not written to be contrived then they can do anything they want with Star Wars. hell that applies to any media ever tbh

@CommanderPipesMcGee

@@joshmorales770 this is the thing isn't it tho. Star Wars would be thriving if they didn't alienate their core in built fan base that grew up with SW. "Kill it if you have to" RJ basically sealed Disney SW fate by spitting on the OT fans, the ones who have the money, the ones who have the kids they would indoctrinate into SW, and the ones who would help pass the torch to the next Gen. Disney made sure they would check out, and they haven't been able to build a new fan base to replenish and keep interest. Imagine if Coca Cola changed their recipe, called it New Coke, and then blasted all their customers for hating New Coke as being toxic. Coke would have gone bankrupt. Go back in time and see what Coke actually did when this situation occurred. Here's a hint. Much grovelling and a return to Classic Coke.

@CommanderPipesMcGee I think a more apt comparison would be Budweiser's recent, and colossal failure, of an attempt to rebrand Bud Light. Politics aside in attempting the rebrand their then-V.P. of marketing gave public interviews insulting Bud's (then) current consumer base in multiple ways before noting that the brand needed to "grow up." She set the brand on a course that lost it millions of consumers and tens of millions in market value. The company chased a far smaller consumer base that it didn't properly engage in the first place and wasted substantial goodwill with its existing consumers in the process. It is essentially what Lucas Film has done with Star Wars fans; instead of finding a way to court new fans and continue to engage it's existing fans it threw the older fans in the trash and said "don't come back". Many fans didn't and they managed the impossible: turning one of the most recognizable and beloved franchises in modern history into almost wholly untouchable nuclear waste.

Imagine if they had pushed advertising and hype for Skeleton Crew, instead of whatever The Acolyte was. This is the kind of thing everyone has held out hope for, and instead Disney gave us the middle finger of The Acolyte, meaning a lot of the fans that were still giving viewership numbers to things like Obi-wan and Ahsoka, finally turned away and gave up, and aren't watching Skeleton Crew.

Usually you shoot a lot more and then decide in the editing room what goes in and what doesn't. Reason for not including scenes are many, from just not turning out good enough or not working in context despite being good by themselves. Or just deciding you don't need them after all. Just for an idea how much is shot: the producers of Battlestar Galactica complained that when they were editing the episode "Pegasus" they found that they actually had a first cut with 60 minutes of quality footage, but had to ahere to an episode length of 43 minutes (because cable tv). They considered padding up the runtime by using scenes they had discarded in the first cut, but this would have the diluted the quality. So 17 minutes had to be removed for the final cut. But they had shoot more than twice the runtime needed for episode.

These kids are metamorphosizing before our very eyes into a more cohesive team of beautiful butterflies, symbolized in the shedding of the rougher exterior of the pirate ship to reveal their sleeker new wings more their size. It's as if they unfolded their beautiful wings from a chrysalis of a more self-conscious adolescence into a capable pilot, navigator, gunner, etc. They're better now for what awaits them in the skies as freshly emerged young butterflies and unlikely but true heroes and role models.

A tip for the polls: You don't have to include an option for those who do not watch, aim the question only at those who do. See how many respond, then compare it to the typical number of respondents of your general polls or use other viewer related data you have, infering so how many people are not watching. I for one am not answering these polls because I have never watched any Star Wars series so far, nor am I planning to; to me answering in a negative manner would make it seem I'm negative towards the show, when in reality I usually don't watch any shows. I'm in for the SW movies and games, but I admit that Andor might be a decent experience to my taste. PS. I listen to your show related videos to keep up on what's happening with SW. 😊

I've been avoiding Star Wars lately because of all the subpar content that's come out, but based on your recommendation, I gave this show a shot. After watching through to the most recent episode, I absolutely hate that I couldn’t have seen this as a 12- or 13-year-old. It’s exactly the kind of adventurous and thrilling story I would have loved back then-a perfect blend of the intrigue of Treasure Island and the youthful camaraderie of The Goonies. Honestly, it hits so many of my favorite things. This is the kind of storytelling Disney should be making. As for the criticisms I’ve heard: sure, the earth-like suburbia is jarring, and the two moms while the other kids only had one parent made me laugh. But in the grand scheme of things, these are minor quibbles. When Star Trek: The Next Generation aired, there were some pretty rough episodes, but the series as a whole was still worth watching. The same applies here-the show has heart which more than makes up for a few rough areas.

Hey Thor, My grandson stayed over for the New Year and rather than have him locked on his phone the entire time he was here, I decided to watch Skeleton Crew with him. He is 11 and is not interested, although he knows about, Star Wars. Most people today know a smattering about Star Wars so I figured we’d try it. He is the target audience and I was a Star Wars fan (Disney has really murdered the Star Wars joy for me), so why not. Now while the show has kept his interest, it hasn’t overwhelmed him, small victories. On my part, as I said previously, this is a show for children and since they have no interest in catering to what I want to watch, I really don’t watch this unless I’m with my grandson. My opinion on the show is, it’s ok for kids. I don’t hate it. It’s fine, like when I watched Sailor Moon with my daughter. Not for me but fine. However, the subtle agenda in the show is there if you casually watch. The gay parents (lobot girl); the weak, dumb male characters (Wim(p)) and elephant boy; girl bosses (Fern and chief’s daughter on “lookalike planet”); no normal two parent family. This is coded to subtly make you ok with these choices the writers make. We’ve only gotten to episode 5, and although Fern and Wim(p) are irritating characters, I hope they become likable by the end. The overall mystery doesn’t interest me and my grandson is really only curious about Jude Law’s character. That’s all I have to say so far.

6:50 I agree with that comment, I literally just thought the same thing a minute prior. This episode's purpose was to transition the story into the end game. There may not have been any big revelations, but there was certainly character development and plot progression, it's not like you can remove it and have the story make sense... What's the definition of Filler again? Oh right, inconsequential to the plot. People these days throw that term around way too loosely just because they didn't like a particular episode or it didn't meet their fan theory speculation. It's become a catch-all for "I didn't like it" from what I'm seeing. When the term Filler was coined, it referred to completely random content thrown into the middle of a story arc. Think the hero & villain are in the middle of an ultra high stakes climactic battle and all of a sudden the following two episodes have the entire cast of characters taking a beach vacation out of the blue, and then the main battle resumes in the following episodes. I always use the original Bleach anime as a prime example because of just how bad they were with Filler. Not just a standalone ep here or there, they had whole ass full season 26 ep filler arcs all the time. There was a good reason for that though, the manga was currently running at the time and the anime tended to catch up to where the manga was a LOT, therefore it was a necessary evil to give enough time for more of the official story to be published. That series has like 300-400 episodes, I forget exactly, and I'd guess half of them are probably filler that is completely irrelevant to the actual story. That's Filler guys... like look up how much people absolutely hate the Bount Arc, that was kinda the first big one.

If I may, I grew up (and still am) with star wars clone wars / rebels and the prequels. I remember no one was even watching among my friends Clone Wars or Rebels and yet those shows were so genuinely beautifully written and respecting the star wars mythology and felt so pure and right. No matter how many people watched it or not it doesn’t make them any less better than they are and especially what they represent even if it makes one’s heart vibrate. That’s what Skeleton Crew does to me and regardless of viewership and viewership cannot take away from the beauty and what those show represent to someone like me. That’s it. Some things diseny did were absolutely not for me for how disconnected and how much it lacked those pure ideas and genuine stories but that’s ok too. The Star Wars I love will always exist because of how I feel and how I felt watching and dreaming along those shows. For me this show makes me feel that way and if you want something less complex and less « mature » yet truly pure and genuine and human (therefore actually quite complex) then maybe give it a try ☺️

For the record, I don't have anything against this show, other than - well, I guess I do after all. Ultimately, it didn't hook me so there's that. But my bottom line is I'm voting against ALL Disney Star Wars moving forward. Nothing against the creatives - actors, makeup, FX and all that. They do the best they can. But I'm not giving a pass (via my wallet & time) to the management, the show runners and all who want to shit on Lucas' spirit of Star Wars at every turn. I'm not going to lay out the argument - it's how I feel and I know I'm not alone. To anyone watching and enjoying - more power to you. Nothing against fans. It's not about you. It's about decisions, assumptions, & disrespectful treatment of the fan base that made this the world's top IP. I'm not watching *any* DSW moving forward.

I'm probably not saying anything revolutionary here, but a show about a bunch of kids isn't what I think of as "Star Wars". What would I want to see in an alternative universe where Disney was actually good? Something in a similar vibe to the SWTOR trailers. "Deceived", etc.

It's a good episode that raises awareness of some very valid issues that people with disabilities face, especially for younger people. However, perhaps this is a SW audience, and possibly a younger audience at that, they sort of gloss over it for a quick resolution and jamming in more exciting visuals. I think if it injects a bit more coming of age story elements like Stand By Me, it would be a possible trajectory to elevate the show. Although this episode is short, we do see further development of the characters in this episode. Fern, is a product of a possibly overbearing parent who has high expectations for her daughter, so she acts as such. In that aspect, she is very stuck inside her head (as KB points out), just as Wim is, but for him, he is stuck in fantasy world of idealism, where heroes are larger than life, and villains are overt and archetypical. It's no surprise that they butt heads, while Neel and KB seem to be the more pragmatic types of the group.

So this is what Cobra Kai did masterfully - it brought in the new generation because it managed to have the right balance between focusing on the legacy cast and the new cast. It was an absolutely perfect passing of the torch that I wish Star Wars took more beats from.

Really loving Skeleton Crew and enjoyed Episode 6 quite a bit, but I too wish they episodes were all at least 45 minutes in length. Episode 6 really could have benefitted from an extended scene showing Wim and KB in real peril trying to escape the Trash Crab, while Neel gets scared about jumping on the towing ships, only to be inspired when he realizes its up to him and Fern to save the others. That section seemed a bit rushed, particularly Neel's jumping off the platform without any real hesitation.

Hey Thor - do you think that "shilling for Disney" is part of the problem with no one watching Skeleton Crew? By that, I mean that a lot of YTers (not this channel) have said everything Disney has put out is great but then you get to a show that might actually be decent and it's like the boy who cried wolf for this show. I think shilling has made word of mouth momentum so much harder bc most people have been burned too many times.

I actually went from just a Hulu subscription to a Hulu and Disney Plus subscription this week partially because of the 10.99 deal, partially because Disney has made some decisions and some statements lately that are more agreeable such as removing all of the trans stuff out of that one show and also partially because of you and my friend Tyler vouching for the skeleton Crew actually being good. I have not watched any new Disney Star Wars in a long time, had no intention whatsoever of giving them another chance but now I think I actually will check this show out and see what's up.

Didn't watch in my case is normal. Since shows never get dropped at once like they used to I have to wait so I can binge the thing in a night all at once instead of do it on snail release schedule. My vote on The Acolyte is about 35% (a C+ meaning better than Jar Jar. Skipping Phantom Menace to get to 7 seasons of Clone Wars quicker (never seen- whoohoo!) Ahsoka was fun- needs sequel.

The kids commanding the starship, even with all the setup given, felt like a leap into pure kids-fantasy. This lost me a bit. When it was just them trying to get help and struggling to work out which adults to trust, it felt like a more solid and believable show.

That said, I look forward to watching the series in a decade or two when hopefully Disney has reformed some.

I've been a fan of Star wars since I was five and that was 1984. I've enjoyed pretty much everything that Disney has put out aside from two of the three sequel movies. Episode 8 was awesome but Ryan Johnson just f*#ked it up. Episode 9 was just WTF. Disney has some blame but KZbinrs and the internet have a good amount of blame themselves. The internet's killing everything.

After only watching the first 3 shows, I disagree, think the 60% says more then the viewers who are watching 1380k viewers out of 8700k enjoy it, well that's not very good numbers, but I feel its hitting the audiences of the kids and maybe partners and sounds/looks like what everyone was saying 'goonies in space' but my 13 year old has no interest in watching, that being said it is a long way off making stars wars back to money making machine it was, I agree Disney have a mountain to climb this is just a foot hill, at best.

This show is what Disney should be making. I'm sorry so many people are saying they aren't watching. This show needs to be supported, if you don't support good or decent content, don't be upset when you get bad content. I get wanting Disney to not make more, but you have to understand that they will not give up Star Wars, so your options are: no more stuff, or support good stuff. But if you are rooting for failure of Star Wars overall, that isn't gonna happen.

Not for nothing, but that 60% number says more about the people who watch your channel rather than how Star Wars fans in general feel about the show. I would say that like 90% of Star Wars viewers are not engaged in the whole "Star Wars is bad/good" conversation that is mostly online.
Star Wars will always be more than what Disney does with it
