Skeletool No 4 Scalpel Holder Mod

if I'm carrying a multitool, there's a 99% chance I'm carrying a folder as well. So I always considered knife blades on the multitool wasted space. However, replacable scalpal blades, being both precision and sacrificial, is a game changer IMO. Not to mention ability to toss the blade into a garbage can on your way to the TSA checkpoint. Nice mod.

I always thought the skeletool was a more like a pocket knife that just happens to have pliers. It's one of the msot comfortable multitool knifes to use.

I no longer carry a separate knife due to my multi. I do so much wire stripping and package opening that it's a must.

A helpful creation from Shapeways for Leatherman would be knureled nut driver bits for such bolts on Leathermans. Another is a 1/4 6 mm bit( or plastic) that the eyeglass bit can fit in.

On the off chance you're still in the market for this, or someone else who comes here is, a gentleman by the name of Kristen van Patten has a web store selling a leatherman flat bit to eyeglass bit adapter. I recently picked one up and it's quite nice, I swapped it into the bit kit I carry with my Surge so that I can actually use that little eyeglass bit that comes with the kit. I don't think I can post a link here but if you google his name you should find it immediately.

I have a s Surge. There's no way I could make it TSA compliant, nor would I want to. I never saw the need fpr a Skeletool. Now I want one.

Just did it on a new tool. PITA. The new screws are one piece and realigning them was brutal. I had to use my awl to align the holes and clamp it in place with my crunch. I didn’t realize that the old style left the collar in place. Anyhoo, nice mod. Thank you.

If you 'open' the handle, the spring tension isn't as high and you can align the pivot much easier.

I opened the handle. The issue is aligning all the holes to slip the shaft through. It was diving me nuts. Very tight fit. I’ve used the awl and clamp method when working on my Jeep. Body cladding and fender install. Make it a lot easier

I just bought one and the grooves are horribly rough and not smooth and it is literally impossible to get a blade on. How do you clean the grooves?

Just ordered this w/ the slammer hammer. Wondering where you would find a good assorted pack of the no4 blades like 20/21/22/etc. I can only find packs of 100 in one type of blade. Would love a ten pack of one each to try.

There are some lots on eBay that are what you are looking for. It's more rare to find sample sizes of stuff. I have a LOT of blades so send me a message on Shapeways and I'll see if I can help.

Ultimate airplane carry? This should be TSA approved with the blade out, just buy or have some blades delivered to your destination when you get there, and throw away before you fly again! How much do the replacement blade cost?

JKC YMMV. I haven’t ever tried to carry a bladeless Skeletool on a flight, I feel I would be arguing with the TSA or CBSA agent to the point where they would take it away out of principle. Blades run from a couple of cents to a few dollars, it depends on what size and shape and quality. I would imagine if you are staying at a hotel, you could mail yourself a couple of blades in a letter.

Anybody know if the stainless steel on SW website is actually stainless? It says that it doesn’t have any bronze in it, but I haven’t seen any pictures of it online. I think the stainless is relatively new, because they used to have their bronzed steel listed as stainless, but now it’s labeled more accurately. Can anybody confirm that the “stainless steel” on SW website is actually a true steel, without any bronze?

I can confirm the 17-PH is 100% stainless which has properties similar to 304 if I remembering correctly. No bronze. The finish is more textured than the bronze steel but it’s also more dimensional accurate which required me to export a different model for each part. It takes to sanding and finishing very well.

Few weeks ago I ordered scalpel holder for wave/charge from your company! Order to Latvia #3659079 how could it happen what I received holder for Skeletool? It is the same like on this video, and what I can do now with this holder if I don’t have skeletool, I don’t need it! I have leatherman charge and I need holder for my tool, three weeks I waited for my order, but now I too sad :(
