Too bad that the camera person was unaware that talks include slides. He must've been wondering why the guy kept pointing at the wall.

its actually pretty simple, if you can go faster around a spinning black hole one way as compared to the other way, then this effect has to be possible, not effichient or realistic in terms of engineering, but possible.

i think the kahn point was better than the harry potter point, in harry potter its litterally magic, impossabilities in some sense is what the stuff is about, nobody actually knows the physics of the magic in the plot. for one maybe the mass is actually turned into some energy or something, stored in some sort of this that or the other? :P who cares in fantasy settings, it matters more that the story is consistent with itself imo ::)..

and yes antimatter rocketfuel is a crazy idea, unless you can controll the direction of emission, and you would prefer to get a massive ejecta to not wast a bunch of energy chasing momenta, but still you would rather want some other form of propulsion, and currently thats kind of a pipedream, warpdrives are possible in theory ish, but there is a question of being able to go superluminal at all with it, which currect physics isnt really ready to answer definitivly anyway :P

He mentioned the cost of manufacturing antimatter fuel, but neglected how long it takes to do. In the time it would take to manufacture enough antimatter to get to alpha centauri in a human lifetime, you could have walked there.

And the moral of the story is physicists should stick to literary fiction and murder mystery.

How would a transwarp work without starships!? Good God, man! Have you even seen a transwarp or have a clue how they work? Total nonsense

for example if you can hold onto a spacetime smokering and generate it from inside it the local framedragging would be such that superluminal travel would be possible, but the amount of energy required to make such a thing work is stupid, and even worse the only way we know to do this right now is to litterally gcreate a toroidal neutral current, plenty of idiots in the internet are talking about toroidal coils and stupid shit like that, that is not what is mean here, what i mean is the framedragging field created by a toroidal current of mass/energy, which could be done with just electrons but the effect would be so tiny for the currents we could possably create that its more like a bong dream than a pipedream. if you are one of the silly idiot professors that deny this possability go work it out in GR a framedragging effect like a smokering could exist and would be able to break the light barrier, in such a way that nothing really locally goes faster than the local speed of light, but its definitley possible, and if you doubt that go do the math.
