My jaw dropped when I saw that you'd done this song. You do a fantastic selection of songs that are obscure from a mainstream point of view but were fiercely loved indie songs for the people who knew. You have really carved yourself a cool little niche in the guitar instruction video market.

Yes, after 400 videos of Sweet Child of Mine it's great to see a channel who covers some the other wonderful guitar stuff out there. Yes, I'm admitting it people! The guitar existed before Slash. And this track is an excellent choice. I had probably played guitar for 30+ years before I first heard this track and I was amazed at what Vini produced with just 5 or 6 chords, no riffs and no lead breaks.

Hello, just a word not related to this specific lesson. I just want to thank you for all the amazing work you give to us. Your explainations are clear, I really like your songs choices. I'm a big fan of punk, new wave, alt rock, indies,..., so for me your channel is a gold mine for at least two years now. I really appreciate the tiny details you're looking after to sound like the original reccords. I'm a little bit scared with the Patreon thing, but I will have a closer look. Sometimes I'm a bit scared when I see the small amound of views for your videos, you deserve so much more. So thank you, thank you, thank you, and keep on ! You rock !

!!!!!!! outstanding choice ,The Durutti Column deserve more recognition; the first two albums are exceptional , they feature instrumentals for guitar that are geared towards great songs and not soloing skills and a unique guitar sound that is clean and spacious, a for runner of ambient guitar. He has a really sophisticated chord knowledge and he has a way of playing bass simultaneously over unusual chord voicings which is great.

I can't thank you enough for bringing the Durutti Column to my attention. I have taken a deep dive into their music since then, because it evokes such a powerful emotional reaction in me. I am usually a pretty lazy guitar student, but I kind of consider it an honor to learn something that Vini composed. Thanks again.

First of all, thank you for making this! I never thought anyone would ever attempt it because it seems so intricate and multi-layered but you have aced it once again, what a job it must have been. A fantastic song, easily the best of DC's first album imo, as a whole I much prefer the next album LC. On the delay Vini used I always thought I'd read it was indeed a Deluxe Memory Man, but for the life of me I can't remember where I got that. Absolutely sounds like it though. Thanks again, I loved this to bits.

Wow, this is brilliant. I have been in love with this track since I first heard it in 1980. Have tried to work it out before on an acoustic, but it never sounded right. I now have a similar guitar and an amp with effects, so I think i might be able to make an attempt at it. But I hate you, because you have long fingers! My short stumps are a bit pathetic, but I've always had that problem. At least I've always been a finger style player. I saw him a few years ago in Bristol, in St Georges Hall, and he was brilliant. The other track which fills me with nostalgia is Messidor. Incidently, when I went to Portugal around 1998, there were loads of CDs available, they really liked him there.

Thank you for a wonderful lesson! About the gear that Vini used for the first LP, there is some information in the liner notes to the FactoryOnce reissue. The notes are unsigned but judging from their content they may well be by Tony Wilson, I don't know. About the studio sessions, it says there that "Vini arrived with his beloved Les Paul", and if you watch live perfomances of that era, or look at photos, that indeed is what he plays. The notes add that one of the tracks recorded between "The Return" and "LC" "signals the arrival of the Stratocaster". Again, videos and photographs of that time, and later, show Vini playing a Strat. That is the guitar I think of when I think of him (which is often because I adore his playing). I have no information as to what delay he used in "The Return", but the notes to the FactoryOnce reissue of "LC" include the phrase "Roland Space Echo Frenzy". That's all I know--- I hope it helps.

Incredible work, sir. Have been listening to Vini and Anne Clark collabs the whole day and here you are to deliver. P.S. Have you ever thought about giving a try to play some John Valentine Carruthers? Imo, he's the most underrated Siouxsie & The Banshees guitarist, yet the closest one in terms of creativity and skill to Mr. McGeoch. "Candyman" would be a perfect pick for your advanced viewers.

You never fail to amaze me Adrian - brilliant. There’s a scene in 24 hr party people re: Vini Reilly...”you shouldn’t let him sing’ it’s poor.’ No, it’s provocative. ‘Provocatively poor’. Can’t say that about his playing, though - or yours, come to that. Top geezer.
