Tried both, fell in love with Affinity Designer
@radekpiekny28375 жыл бұрын
Perhaps I am missing something but that is completely different tool mostly for vector graphics..Also I really hate when affinity does not allow you to control position of path node handlers and exports all kinds of bullshiet to svg along with the code. I am not sure if other tools are better at that though
@HelderCervantes5 жыл бұрын
@@radekpiekny2837 in my experience the SVG export has been pretty neat. I've even used the markup directly on pages to control colours and whatnot. The only annoying problem I find is that sometimes converting a stroke to fill doesn't output an accurate shape. I've been using it mostly for webdesign, occasionally designing a logo, and find it way more agile and easy to use than Figma or Sketch.
@radekpiekny28375 жыл бұрын
@@HelderCervantes Stroke is one of those things that converts to path instead of just well...stroke. So the file gets messy and big. At least that was known bug last time I checked. It is of coarse possible that I am doing something wrong but I did try follow 2 tutorials and with the same results. Way too many nodes, handlres and others stuff that takes majorify of a file. But I have to say that other than these annoying things I like affinity a lot. And tablet version is awesome. But I like precision so until the handlers are fixed I cannot use the tool properly...:(
@radekpiekny28375 жыл бұрын
Oh when I said handler position I meant snap handle to grid...That is essential especially for web design I think. there was quite a discussion for that feature in affinity forum but the public relation dude from affinity could not even understand why it is needed...

I’m constantly comparing new design tools to Sketch to see if there are better tools to switch to (usually related to a more fleshed out full process tool - Design/Prototype/Dev Handoff) so this was helpful but I wanted to note some things: #1 - Sketch has the same image fill functionality as Figma. You can paste an image in as a shape fill or a bitmap layer. #2 - Things like annoying hotkeys for layer arrangement can be changed by adjusting shortcuts if you want something else. #3 - Sketch does show shortcut keys shown in the toolbar menus.

XD is still king in my book, works directly with all your classic adobe programs and is in a monthly update schedule with features surpassing all competitors. I used to think it was limited until the last 3 months of updates. I would give it a try just to see if you like it more because it has a smoother workflow over sketch and figma. The next update should integrate plugins which will completely take over the industry. Just a heads up!
@charlimarieTV6 жыл бұрын
In what way is it smoother? The reason I like Figma is because the workflow is very similar to Sketch, just lots of little things that make it better! If XD is quite a different workflow I don't think I'm interested in switching to it. I'd need to wait until I was at a point in my career where i could make the time to learn a completely new program, like I did with Sketch. Work is too busy these days for stuff like that!
@robkubala286 жыл бұрын
CharliMarieTV if you know illustrator and photoshop you will know XD. It’s the same hotkeys with more UI/UX design based features like symbols and responsive design capabilities. The time for you to learn XD would be extremely minimal in comparison to other programs if you consider XD’s familiar UI and it’s design process in relation to the other adobe programs you already know and love!
@robkubala286 жыл бұрын
CharliMarieTV another helpful tool that completely overtakes most programs is XD’s repeat grid tool, as a UI designer I use this daily! You can repeat objects/symbols with perfect spacing (a feature I have not seen implemented this smoothly in any other UI/UX design programs). You should watch a video on it because it’s life changing!

You mean the disability to vertical align text (No, I don't mean on the canvas, but in relation to their box-size)? I use it to create social media / blog images and I'm just starting to learn app design, but I find everything to be so intuitive in there that it feels like the app is doing it for you. ALTHOUGH, the one thing that makes it difficult for me to progress faster is that it's limited to Mac, so I think Figma really makes a lot of sense when it comes to learning design at home on the PC when I actually have the time for it and not being pressed by work/office deadlines. Scaling frames doesn't necesarily scale your content unless you set your content as scale. You can use constraints to have it anchor to top, bottom, left, right, center, or scale and in many combinations of these, allowing your designs to scale up and down, which is great for testing different ranges within breakpoints and seeing where your designs could probably need a new one. I switched about 8 months ago from Photoshop, and switched my team to it a couple months back after using it for a while. There's a few features that are still missing, but will be awesome once they're here!

But as you already say, it's often the little things that are very helpful in your daily work.

A friend and I recently decided to give Figma a go after having used Sketch for several years now. My only gripe, besides the Frame one that you mentioned, is the bounding box on text. It doesn’t sit flush with the bottom or top of the text, so one has to manually resize the bounding box to have it fit, otherwise text sits wrong on eg a button when aligned using the align tools. I have also found that often my frame doesn’t display the entire frame in the prototype preview mode.

For you that can be sketch. Tho I'm trying to catch up with the design pop culture by trying Figma and I completely love it, it has everything I always needed for designing digital UI's. But I must say it's hard to shift to new tools after such using one tool for 2 years and sometime I feel it's not even worth it because that will just slow up the shipping process for few weeks at least. I still use Sketch and this is the first time I've heard of Figma. Do agree that every tool has its pros and cons but you learn to adapt.

its very easy to go from sketch to figma as it looks very similar.

Switch from Figma to Adobe XD. You can also have multiple people working on the same document which is awesome. It's also super fast. That's what I would be using if our clients didn't require us to use Sketch.

I’ve been using Adobe XD because it integrates with Adobe CC libraries and it’s easy to drop in assets from there, but would like to try Figma.

Regarding the use of Invision for sharing it, if you go into presentation mode and then click on the share button, it will create a link that immediately opens the prototype in presentation mode!

One more disadvantage is that some clients doesn't allow to work on cloudbased tools without a loooong way to approve the tool. I prefer to have something offline. What looks tempting is the way Figma handles vectors. I like illustrator for being quite versatile tool but it would be easier to create everything in one tool.

great point! I'm thankful I don't have to worry about clients for reasons like this!

You can copy as SVG on Sketch and paste in Figma and it will do the same importing process as Importing a whole file.

Great video comparing the features of Sketch and Figma. Very informative -- particularly from the perspective of sharing and working on designs collaboratively. I have also recently started using Figma on a design project and I was surprised how easy it was to transition from Sketch. As a browser-based app that offers the benefits of running in a browser (auto-save to cloud, easy to share), I was also quite surprised how well it performed -- in some cases it performed better than Sketch! However, Figma put quite a bit of strain on my laptop's battery and CPU, so it might drain your battery quicker if you're on a flight and don't have access to a power source. What I would love to see also is the difference in the way Sketch and Figma handle Symbols (or 'Components', as Figma likes to call them) -- as a UI designer who re-uses a lot of components, I also found that the component system works extremely well in Figma once you get the hang of it. I also find that the fluid layout system of frames (i.e., the ability to specify how child layers react when the parent layer is resized) extremely valuable for responsive design and component re-use. Again, both components and the fluid layout system take some time getting used to, but once you understand the concepts and practice, they save a whole lot of time in your workflow. Anyway, thank you for the great and informative video!
