Put the kettle on, make yourself a cuppa, grab your sketchbook, and come and draw with me for half an hour! I'm finding that these 30 minute sessions in my sketchbook are becoming essential to my wellbeing and general creativity. It's where I allow myself to experiment and have fun with my art supplies; combining different mediums and materials, sometimes with surprising or unexpected results. I feel as if I'm learning something new each time I do this! Through my experiments in this video, which will slowly unfold while I chat to you, I've already come up with an idea for a new piece of work based upon the cloud and raindrop sketches I worked on here. I can't wait to share this with you, as I think it will be interesting to see how a playful sketch can become a finished work of art. There's no music in this video, so the ASMR factor is strong! (I love the sound of pencil on paper).
Today I'm using the beautiful Caran d'Ache Luminance coloured pencils, a Faber-Castell Pitt Soft Brush Artist Pen, Japanese Gansai paints, Neocolour 1 crayons, and a Stabilo multi-surface pencil. I hope that you enjoy the video. Allow yourself the time to play, and stay creative!
(As this video is so long, it's been uploaded in 720p rather than 1080p due to our terrible internet connection!)

I read in a comment on another channel that there are several ways to "fix" the prisms pencils that break a lot. One way I want to try is wrapping them up in a heating pad on the highest temp for awhile. Others tried the microwave for a few seconds and still others the oven, it might be something to look into.

OMG I love how this turned out!! Such moody colors and atmosphere but it makes me feel so happy looking at it 🥰. And the glowing peachy lavender in the middle feels like someone opened the door to my heart 💜. It has a feeling of childlike wonder to it… which is fun because I feel like that’s the place you (and so many of us who are inspired to create art) were trying to get back to and hold on to as you were creating this piece - letting go of the idea of perfection/judgement and instead just allowing the curious exploration of joy to lead 🌦. Watching something like this reminds me that others are experiencing the same struggle and moments of illumination that I am… that I am not alone. Thank you Natasha for being willing to show us your vulnerability, giving us the opportunity to show more of ours as well 💖🌟💖

Please don't feel self conscious about making these sort of videos. I find them so interesting and watchable because they are a "peek behind the curtain" where a hack like myself can see the real process that a real artist takes to eventually get to a "proper work of art" as you put it. Its easy for an amateur like myself to think the a professional artist such as yourself, just sits down and cranks out a beautiful saleable piece on a whim. Seeing and hearing you work through the experimentation of materials, media, and mediums is absolutely mesmerizing and fascinating to me. This was a WONDERFUL video to watch. Thank you!!!!!!

Found out some more about these tinted black gansai paints, they are a kind of hybrid, they are a mix of watercolour and sumi ink. When you add just a small amout of water the sumi ink part is more pronounced and if you dilute them more the watercolour part becomes more pronounced. I got a set of these after another of you brilliant videos on this set and I really love them, they are great on tinted/toned paper and also when you use metallic paints with them too. I used the first set so much I had to get another! But they are lovely to work with and i discoverd if you dilute them enough they can be used with a dip pen or even a glass dip pen.And the pans are so larege as they are made to accomodate Chinise calligraphy brushes and Sumi ink brushes which are larger. The paints were created for calligraphy originally. I use mine also with the Graphatint pencils from Derewent.

Having you and a few other you tube artists to watch and work with , it’s not always the same sometimes it’s just chaotic nonsense , but I don’t feel alone I can’t talk to my family members about arts or art supplies, they think I’m obsessed but not knowing how long my life will last I’m doing what makes me happy, and art supplies, art stores and you tubers that’s art related it’s these 30 minutes sketch book doing what I love , so scared to go to sleep sometimes I don’t want to wake up dead and it could be any moment so making myself happy now which might be the end is what’s important to me, please don’t stop with the no music I think this is way better, keep doing this it feels like yore right next door not 100’s of miles away in a diff country, I don’t mention the cancer to get sympathy, just part of my rambling , please. Keep doing this no music

Hello ms Newton, there is this Lamy ink for its fountain pens named "blackberry", which in reality is a deep aubergine-black colour. It is my favourite colour (for so many things - it's "alive"). If you could suggest a colour pencil and/or marker with the same hue, do let me know. Nice work, ΙΩΝ P.S. "The floor between us", is a lovely title for a novel or a Pet Shop Boys song.

When a pencil, particular ones, are dropped then the lead shatters and breaks so when sharpened they keep breaking. Some pencils don't do well at all if dropped.

@@NatashaNewtonArt Prisma colors are known for that kind of breakage. They are wax based pencils though, and I've heard that some people have good luck with putting them into the microwave for a few seconds (to fuse the wax core inside the pencil back together). I have some but none have broken yet. I have also heard that when you sharpen colored pencils you should not hold the pencil sharpener still and twist the pencil into it. But rather hold the pencil still and move the sharpener around it. Similar to an electric sharpener I suppose

You can also put on a warming pad or in the sun on a windowsill. Just be aware that some pencils have metallic foil on them which should not really go in the microwave … or you’ll get 🔥 sparks
