I agree with using references, but also I think even just making the face yourself while drawing the expression can really help...at least for me. I love the difference in Saul's and Bill's personalities (like a sweet Strawberry and a tart blueberry). Expressions are super fun and I love the way you use yourself as a reference for expression. Another thing that I think helps with expressions in how high or low eyebrows go and how open or closed the eyes are. My style heavily relies on the shape language of the eyes and eyebrows. This was a very helpful video I didn't even think to use a reference for expressions. Hope you have a fabulous week Shay.❤

I've been doing lots of figure studies from the Line Of Action website and avoiding the expressions studies because I am very bad at noses and eyes and such. But I really should give it a go, since my figures are starting to look better since I started! 😊 I'm so proud of myself for trying new things

The bit you say about same characters constantly looking different is so real. I've only just started arting and I find my biggest challenge is I can draw the same face and it'll look different every time, and sometimes I think "wow this look great" and sometimes "this looks like a 5 yr old drew it", and I think I'm just not experienced enough atm to understand WHY they look so different. It's really frustrating. I also just don't understand how anyone can draw without reference. I can't seem to imagine or picture any sort of expression or pose. Like I in theory know what a dejected person would look like, but I can't imagine it in my mind so I can't put it to paper, and if I try it's just messy. So then I get an idea and have to spend HOURS looking up a reference that vaguely looks like what I'm thinking of. :/

Great advice, Nothing wrong with the last message but I’d be careful because the internet is infamous in many cases of taking things too far… If one isn’t careful enough when telling people how to critique other’s work, it might give some people carte blanche to harass a complete stranger who is just doing something they like. to be CLEAR, you are very nice Art ytuber, and you do not model any type of toxic behavior on your audience. the important thing is that both parties can respect one another’s input and develop better, socially conscious ideas for their own work in future.
