tfw you cut out a bunch of stuff and the video is still 18 minutes long c': In case it isn't obvious (and this was one thing I mentioned but cut out), I sketch in grey and keep the layer opacity (as well as the brush opacity) at full all the time while sketching - only when the sketch is complete do I lower the layer opacity so I can line easier - I'm not sure the colour of your sketch generally matters, maybe it's just me being weird but personally I MUCH prefer sketching in pale grey to blue/red, I actually enjoy sketching more since changing the colour (I used to use blue), and the fact I enjoy it more has improved my sketches a bit - I highly recommend playing around with even trivial things like sketch colour, our brains work in strange ways and you might find little things like that make a difference to you too (unless it literally is just me lol) long comment is long (like this video /rip)

Gotta say this sounds extremely helpful advice! Especially as i can be extremely guilty at not wanting to abandon a bad sketch because something in it i did really well.Unable to sketch rn but as soon as I can I’m definitely going to try it out when I can.

I'm glad it was useful, and good luck with your sketching ^w^

It also helps to sketch in a certain color, then adding another layer on top of that with a darker hue and a smaller brush size.

TYSMM! ive been drawing since i was a baby but i still have issues with certain things, like anatomy, sketching etc!
@kristym86414 жыл бұрын
I've been drawing forever but this was still really helpful! Particularly the part near the 14:30 mark where you give the little pep talk about not trying to save a sketch because of one good bit when the whole thing isn't working out. I really needed to hear that as I do that all the time. I am motivated to be more ruthless as you put it. :) Also I love these types of videos where you show your thinking process! Love your art too!

Hey! Just wondering, do you use a paper-like screen protector on your iPad to help with art?
@snake-wing Жыл бұрын
I have a glass screen protector but not a paper-like one
@roombadog2 жыл бұрын
I hope this isn’t a weird question, but I hear the Pencil noises whilst you draw. I’m guessing that’s like a screen protector, but I just wanted to ask incase it isn’t and also to ask if it is, what brand.
@snake-wing2 жыл бұрын
I do have a screen protector, I don't remember the brand though I'm afraid as it's been a long time since I bought it, it was just a fairly cheap glass one I found on Amazon

Hey! Quick question, have you/are you going to make any videos on how you shade? I’m fascinated by the way you shade and make effects after the coloring is done :)
@snake-wing4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I will be doing a shading tutorial ^w^ It likely won't be for a few weeks though as I want to wait until I have a decent amount of time to plan/record that one ;w;

Hi! I have a couple questions, what color you find most useful or helpful when sketching? What brush do you use for it? Is it a custom set? Also, is there anything I need to know about brushes or colors? Do you use an Apple Pencil to make sensitivity? If so, my sketches are gonna be *horrible.* Anyways, thats it! Thanks for getting this far.
@snake-wing4 жыл бұрын
I think I covered most of those questions in the video but yes, I do indeed use an apple pencil

This helps so much! ^^ I’ve been needing this for who knows how long :,) I normally use 2 layers for sketching, one for shapes, and one for the sketch that I’ll be using to line over. I do have a question though :,> would you say it’s best to sketch with or without color (like red/blue/etc or just black)? I normally sketch with just black and lower the opacity of the layer but I’ve been meaning to try sketching with color.
@snake-wing4 жыл бұрын
I'm glad it was useful! Personally I sketch in pale grey with the layer at max opacity (see my pinned comment for a whole ramble about it lol) but a lot of people use red/blue - personally I do think it's better to sketch in a different colour and lower the layer opacity once you've finished the sketch; I'm not quite sure what the science behind it is, but I imagine it's to do with being able to differentiate easier between the sketch and the lineart if the sketch is a different colour. And as a rule of thumb, you should never use pure black for anything in your art (unless it's like specially stylised black & white pice or something).

Tysm! I’ll try it out once I get done with some commissions! ^^
