So many of them are hopelessly overcomplicated, to the point where you can’t tell basically anything about it. I know that it can be tempting, as just adding variables will make it statistically impossible for it to already have been created, also known as: “unique”. Something i find really nice, is something that is simple, with a couple key features, in a way where describing it is pretty simple, rather than reading off a chatGPT prompt

Adam Eason furries aren’t about sex you know. The majority of the community isn’t and likes anthropomorphic animals for the design aspect. Regular Show, Adventure Time, Zootopia. All furry tribute shows and movies that everyone loved. You said “good side” but the design aspect to portray characters and even yourself through fursonas is the main “side” of he fandom.

@@dengosodawg As a furry I cannot deny that, like every other fandom, there is a sexual part to it. Of course it does not make up the majority of the fandom but it is still there.

As someone who is starting to learn art in general (specifically to learn how to draw anthro characters), I’ve come to appreciate everything you’ve said in this a lot. Anthro characters are usually very stylized so I thought learning stylization would be more important but learning a good foundation of the animal’s unique anatomy not only has helped me distinguish what exactly I’m drawing but has given me a better understanding of proportions and concrete areas where I know I can improve. Can’t stylize something without something real under it after all!

awesome. Just created some mixed species for a fantasy story, one vaguely antelope, but carnivore and a mule type species. They may be fantasy, but I still looked at the characteristics of the animals they are inspired from, so that they work as a species. So I really like this video and the way you're thinking/ working.

The best artists I've met are amazing at observation. They also LOVE to study animals, forms, anatomy and not to become better artists, they genuinely enjoy the process of figuring out things like that... Drawing is another way of describing your understanding of all those things.

For legs i usually start with a human base and adjust for how my own legs change in posture to accommodate for standing on my toes like an animal does. for a head sure take the base of the animal and make it more human, but the bodies are more human than animal so it would make more sense to animalize a human in my opinion. many legs are going to get super tired from a realistic standpoint if they are bent that much all the time especially when theres all the weight on them thats why human legs are the way they are. For heads, yes definitely start with an animal and make it more human, but if the body is human like at its core i think it makes more sense to start with a human and make it more animal like.
@barnowl67525 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've always wondered if that's accurate, because I can stand on my toes for a while without needing to bend my legs.
@greghansen383 жыл бұрын
I'm confused about legs. A lot of artists want to give their bipeds quadruped legs, as if an animal just stood up on its toes. With a biped's pelvis and shoulders, and hands with thumbs, but a quadruped's legs. Which are not suitable for a biped, which is why bipeds don't have those. But hey, cool furry animal, right? I don't want to give them human legs, then they just look like a human with a mask and a strap-on tail. But a dog's digitigrade "knee" is the ankle/heel, and you can find a compromise by giving him big feet and short legs, like a Disney cartoon. But then it's cartoony, and that can be fine, but it depends on what you want to create. Anyway, toe-walking animal people may be realistic, but they're just not realistic.
@GhostProtocol.System3 жыл бұрын
@@greghansen38 I usually like to do a semi-digigrade mid ground where they have paw like feet and look kind of like they’re walking on their toes. You just have to go back and forth between digigrade and plantigrade until you find the sweet spot that fits your tastes.

This is a great video! I feel like so many how to draw furries videos don't get into detail, they just say "draw a circle, add pointy ears" and never touch on the actual drawing again. Instead, most tutorials just ramble on and don't offer any advice. I've been drawing people for 15 years, and occasionally delve into furries because I think they're so fun, but tend to give up after a while because I can't see to get a grasp on how to draw their proportions. Of course none of us really want to study, but it's truly the only way to get better. Knowing those fundamentals.
