after a few dozen tutorial videos, both by SketchUp and individuals, you are the first one to mention keyboard short keys for the tools. Combine that with the fact that you showed me how to multiply objects for framing renderings and you are now my favorite person.....sheesh....its hard to find good tutorials these days. Thanks for the instructive video, you've earned a subscriber for sure, and i look forward to watching all your old videos and waiting for new ones :-)

It doesn't multiply in a strange way. You have the original and you multiply it by 5. The total will be 5. That's including the original. Like 5*1=5 as it always was and is. But I agree it can give an confusing impression. Good video. Among many, in my opinion, the way you explain things (in all of your tutorials) makes you one of the best. Very clear and understandable. Thanks

@myownstarbucks I checked into this and it looks like there is a bug or they have disabled it in the current version. I"m having the same problem. A good workaround is to divide based on the number of segments you want, then measure one of the segments manually with the tape measure. - Cameron

Thank you for the post. It was very helpful. I do have a question about another scenario though. Let's say you were using a round post instead of a square post. How could you accurately set the distance from the edges as you did with the square post, before increasing the amount? I am not able to measure from the edge of the floor to the edge of the round post, and have no idea at what distance I am. With a square post, this is not a problem. If my measurement is not equal between the two end poles to the edge, how can I adjust that while keeping the spacing between all the poles the same?
@ptick167 жыл бұрын
Okay, I figured out my problem. I deleted all of the posts that I had previously made. I then increased the decimal count for more precision. From there, when making my circular post, I learned it's very important to enter that number manually after starting the circle. It is near impossible to set a perfect number with a .000 reading using a regular mouse. I did group my floor first, as you suggested. After I had the diameter circular post that I wanted, I checked to insure that it was centered. It can be tricky to check these measurements because you have to pretty much begin from the middle area of the object you're measuring from, which may look like the wrong area to begin with. Once I figured this out, putting down distances to check for centering was easy. In my case, I wanted my posts to go through a length of the floor. I hid the floor, and then used the push/pull tool to get the length that I wanted, and immediately grouped it. After that I made the floor visible again. From there, it was simply following your instructions on how to move, copy, and multiply. I'm still having only one issue I that I haven't quite figured out yet. After I've entered the amount of posts that I wanted with the multiplication sign, I scrolled out to get a better view of my project, and my object was deselected. I didn't click on anything else as I wanted to be able to change that number if needed. If my number was off, I had to first delete what I had added, and enter a different number. Nothing too difficult, but it would be nice if I knew why my object keeps getting deselected when scrolling out with the mouse wheel to get a better view. Leaning a little more, bit by bit. Thanks again for your videos.

Awesome, helpful, and well explained. Just thought I would mention: SketchUp is multiplying and dividing the length or space between the first two objects, not the number objects. That's why the dimension box still says Length. In a row of objects, there will ALWAYS be one less space between objects than the total number of objects. That's why it's "off by one." :)

When you give the copy command by control+Alt move tool, the copying operation is not finiished yet, so you write *5 to multiply the objects. result is original+ 5 objects. I believe nothing odd in software. Thanks for sharing videos.

just another tip, you can use the multiply command, using, instead of *, the x letter, so, if you want 5 objects, after copying, type 5x and you get 5 copys (keep in mind that the first one, that was the first copy is included in this 5 number)

@earlward50595 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. 3.8 would be easier, but 34/5 works fine. If, for some weird reason you wanted 3 2/7, it would be better to use fractions since 2/7 is a repeating decimal.

'divide by' is the 'total' you want minus 2 ( 1 for the 1st object 1 for the last object = the minus 2) You can also copy group objects. As an example I needed 20 shipping containers to fit a space with equal spacing, so as I copy the first container 'group' using ctrl (on pc) to the end location the 'total distance away including the spaces' The maths for that is easy too: in this example if I have an 8 foot wide container x 20 the total length of containers aligned by width is 160' wide then add the spaces which are also 1 less than the total. So lets say 19 spaces of 1' between each, the total would be 160+19 = 179', i would therefore type 179' after I select copy mode press enter then type /18 to fill the space with the rest of the containers. So to have 40 objects copy both and divide by 38. For a total of 10 objects copy both and divide by 8 and so on...To add spacing times the spacing amount by the total minus 1 and add that to the total width of the objects. hope that helps
