Sketchup Roof Tutorial

Here, I demonstrate how I make and complete a typical roof in Sketchup. This particular roof has both a gable (2 gables) and a hip. Also, you learn how I make sofits and incorperate chimneys. I was going to create a dormer but I ran out of time. I didn't watch the clock and I had plans... BUT, I actually get to show you everything I intended to show you. Enjoy and I hope this helps.

I suppose it depends on where you are with Sketchup, but I thought this was great. I followed along, but not in real-time since I'm new. And you pronounce "roof" correctly IMHO. It depends on where you come from. This isn't the video for someone who wants to model roof structure, but that's not the purpose here. Thanks.

when i use the offset tool to create the eaves, it offsets all the internal walls also, making a giant mess. how did you make it just offset the first rectangle you drew? thanks

After you select the offset tool you need to select the face or edge(s) that you want to copy with an offset. It sounds like you selected a grouped object so SketchUp thought you wanted to offset from every line in that geometry. Make sure you're just selecting the edges that you want to work from. If those edges aren't in your current group or layer you may have to make copies in the layer and group where you want the offset to occur. help.sketchup.com/en/sketchup/offsetting-line-existing-geometry

When you select, for example, the pencil tool, you click once, aim in desired direction, without clicking, you type from the numbers on your keyboard the value you want then hit 'Enter'.
