Ever wonder what happens when you send your skis or snowboard to get a tune-up at the shop? In this video we showcase step by step process of getting a major tune-up for your skis or snowboard.
We start by cleaning the base to get the dust, dirt and grime off. The edges then get sharpened and beveled, followed by a few runs through the base grinder. The next step is to fill in the gauges in the base with p-tex or epoxy and metal grip. To achieve a smooth base, the skis and snowboards need to pass through the base grinder again and in some cases to restructure the base a stone grind may be necessary. The skis and snowboards are now ready be waxed, with a hot iron.
A hot iron wax is about a thousand times more effective than a machine wax, so don't waste your money and always get a hot iron wax. Once the wax cools off, the last steps are to scrape, buff and polish the base.
