Slave to the Grind is the first heavy metal album to chart at number one on the Billboard 200. And not just chart, but debut at number 1. In a time when there wasn't an internet full of information and sharing, no social media, no spotify or apple music, this album sold 134,000 copies in its first week. Freakin' amazing.

Such a ballsy move for those guys to follow up their smash hit album with a record that was about 1000 times heavier. So many other hard rock bands of that era would (and did) steer hard into the power ballads and party songs.

Sebastian Bach has such a killer vocal range. From the soaring high notes in _Youth Gone Wild,_ to the reserved, calmer ones in _18 & Life,_ and the gritty James Hetfield-like growling in this song; the man can do it all.

I typically liked heavier stuff in the 80s, but Skid Row was absolutely awesome. Their first two records are epic classics. And yes I liked their ballads, which were generally more intelligent than the glamsters, but nothing can beat this song here, just ass kicking heavy metal. A band full of excellent musicians, Rachel is a really underrated bass player.

Really, Skid Row deserves more credit among the “glam metal” era bands. They transcended a lot of the tropes of the genre, and were more raw and heavy than most. Kind of how Guns N Roses did, as well. It seems they’ve been a bit lost to time, discarded with many of the other bands of the era. But they were grittier and heavier and not as cheesy as some in the genre became. The music still holds up today. And Sebastian is one hell of a singer.

I woke up to the sound of pouring rain yesterday… It’s one of the only glam rock bands that he’ll ever hear me. Listen to because it’s kind of more of a southern vibe before country music became shitty… so if I woke up to the sound of pouring rain, would that be rain when I die… I know it’s two different genres of music however they’re not that far apart in age and that is a transition between the two I would say completely different vocalist
