Slave to the Grind is the first heavy metal album to chart at number one on the Billboard 200. And not just chart, but debut at number 1. In a time when there wasn't an internet full of information and sharing, no social media, no spotify or apple music, this album sold 134,000 copies in its first week. Freakin' amazing.

I typically liked heavier stuff in the 80s, but Skid Row was absolutely awesome. Their first two records are epic classics. Really, Skid Row deserves more credit among the “glam metal” era bands. They transcended a lot of the tropes of the genre, and were more raw and heavy than most. Kind of how Guns N Roses did, as well. It seems they’ve been a bit lost to time, discarded with many of the other bands of the era. But they were grittier and heavier and not as cheesy as some in the genre became. The music still holds up today. And Sebastian is one hell of a singer.

This is heavy metal, not hair metal. Angry thick distortion unlike marshally Ratt and Poison (I love em all).

T J hi could you tell me the difference? What is the clue, is it the riff or the drum beat? My thoughts are : HM is palm muting power chord while HR is double stop and blues-based solos (high gain distorted blues licks). Sad But True Metallica vs Burn Deep Purple

This song is pretty heavy and I would agree it could be classified as Heavy Metal. But Skid Row over all is boarder line Glam/Hair Rock
