These comparisons are so awesome... Thanks. Justis are still my favorite 😂, I ski them almost always... I am 175/ 69kg. I usually ski justis in 171, for less effort in steeps/bumps etc, but still strong enough for fun carving and good damping /vibration on rough, still quite good float in powder up to 15-20cm. Also have the 177 justis for more groomer days. The 177 is just like a crazy fast missile carving, you push through everything and never lose an edge. So fun 😂!

I’m still riding a pair of 2017 Kastle FX95 HPs. 189s. Still going strong. A true testament to their build quality. I mounted Pivots on them and they get noticed to this day. Lots of fist bumps. Since then I’ve added a pair of ZX100s 189. And some Volkl Deacon 72s. 178s. Love all my gear; I’m set up for any conditions in Oregon. But kind of jonesing to replace the FX95s. Those Paragons are beautiful! Thinking maybe those or some Declivity X 102s for diversity. Matt did a really good job but it’s clear Bob misses his best bud Jeff.

Happy you guys show the sound of the ski bouncing off the floor - I think the sound of the ski is a big deal and you can tell a lot about how it will perform and feel just from that. Would love to see it for all skis along with the flex and profile!

6’6” 240lbs 45 yr male intermediate/advanced with a history of speed but getting more content with age to kinda chill out. Will ski with athletic teen children. 10 yr break from skiing for snowboarding but should pick up where I left off quickly. Wanting an all mountain one quiver ski that works for groomers/trees (65%) and powder days (35%) out west in Utah snow. Given my height and weight I'd love some guidance on what to get. I think aggressive skis would be tamed some with my size but how would you factor that in? Also tough to find longer skis for my size but maybe a 189 works with modern skis? I've been narrowing in on Black Crows Justis, Salomon Stance 102, Declivity 102 and Stockli Stormrider 102. Someone also recommended QST 106 but I'm worried I need two sheets of metal as a big guy. What can you tell me? Love your videos by the way. Incredible knowledge share from genuine people.

Hi! Regarding the new Declivity X 102, would you say that’s more agile and better off piste here in VT vs the previous 102 Ti?
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 2 күн бұрын
I don't find it particularly agile, it's certainly smoother and driftier than the older 102 Ti. I love the silent and powerful feel of the ski on softer groomers, crud, and chop, but in the trees it gets a little tight. It's fine, but not a standout ski here.

Will be on the road most of this winter, starting the season in the East Coast, Utah in February. I'm not sure where next, but will be on snow. I can only pack one pair of skis, and I have to choose between an Atris (190, 105 underfoot) and a Declivity 102 Ti (188). Which one are you packing?
@dimentyuan9436
@dimentyuan9436 4 ай бұрын
honestly, I'd recommend getting a double ski skibag and pack a 90-100 for the east and 110+ for utah. As the biggest struggle for ski is the length, the double bag takes up almost the same amount of room as a single bag. And for a place like utah where the heavenly fresh snow is, you'd want a proper pow ski. If you had to choose from the two, the Atris is probably better as it will get you a lot more float on powder.
@SkiEssentials
@SkiEssentials 4 ай бұрын
Declivity, as I think it's better overall in a variety of conditions and terrain. It's a good enough floater to meet the needs of a pow day, and it's a considerably better on-trail ski than Atris in my experience.

Dynastar M-Pro 100, Black Crows Justice, Armada Declivity X 102? 30 years of skiing off and on. Owner of my own boots for many years and rent/demo skis. Ah, three great choices here, including two of my favorites in the Justis and the X 102. Of these, the Justis is the highest octane and most thrilling option. It's on the stiff side, but the rocker balances it quite well. I love the smoothness and quiet nature of the X 102, and it has uncommon energy for the width without being too demanding. While personally, I preferred the outgoing M-Pro 99 to the new 100, I totally get that the new 100 is more appealing to more skiers with more of a modern feel. Nice, round turns with a lot of versatility. I don't think the Dynastar has the high speed carving capacity of the other skis, but it is the most accessible. You really can't go wrong here!

I am probably going to make a lot more comments on the DPS, Kastle, Stockli and Nordica and Volkl but I have to say something about Rossi.. If you can ski the conditions that you skied with that ski it says a lot about the ski.. Those conditions would classify as crud to me and if you can ski crud you can ski anything in my book.. Floaty skis can get bounced around in crud and sinky skis can get stuck in the crud.. I have the 2021 DPS Wailer Foundation 100 RP x 184.. As far as shaping.. The only thing that looks different from Wailer 100 and Kaisen 100 is that the Foundation seams thicker under the foot.. It might be thicker throughout.. It still has a ton of camber.. I am guessing that it takes a little more work to get on and off the edge.. Something you guys did not mention was that you have to stay forward on the skis.. If you are upright or back the tails will catch and spin you around.. The interesting thing is that early season when there are a ton of people on the hill I will either bring my 25 year old race skis to be able to do quick turns or my RP.. I might even try working on rolling from edge to edge rather than my race style of lifting edge to edge.. Might keep me from wearing out so quick.. I would probably be ok with either of those Kastle skis.. There might be a maximum speed on the ZX but a minimum speed for the Paragon.. I have Stockli Stormrider 88s and 105.. Both of those skis have a minimum speed... I would say that once you get them up to about 40 mph they really come alive.. What I really like about these skis is the dampening.. When I get up to speed they really hold to the snow well.. My 105s can slice like you would not believe.. Once they are slower than 25 it really gets hard to turn them.. They are too stuck to the snow.. 95s did seam to be able to turn a little better at slower speeds.. The only Enforcer I have is the 104 Free and I ski it at the 179 length.. Overconfident is the word that I use to describe this ski.. The ski will go through anything.. It is just a question if I can.. I have talked to people on 100s and 94s and maybe even 88s and they say the same thing.. I only ski a half of a day and it is good for me for that.. Later in the season if I am in really good shape I might ski more runs with the ski and it takes it all and wants more.. I just have to make sure that my body can handle it all.. A couple years ago I demoed the Volkl Mantra 102.. I agree with everything you said.. I will add that when I skied it flat it would pivot instantly.. And when skiing it flat it did not matter if the crud was soft or hard that instant pivot was quite rewarding.. Peak 10 the snow was all slushy with ice underneath and it did well on that and when I went up to the bowls and they were all washboard they pivoted really nice in and out of the washboard.. I don't like skiing washboard at all and those skis saved me from a lot of grief.. Then I went over to another bowl and that bowl was thick slushy chunky ice crud and the ski literally saved me again... Sometimes it is not about doing laps but sometimes getting down the hill safely.. It was nice to see Matt and Bob do one.. I would say that my skiing style is closer to theirs.. I am not as tall as them but I weigh about what they do.. I can really relate to both of them.. I am older than both of them so when Bob talks about getting lazy I can totally relate..

I'm an enormous Justis fan as it pairs a modern and progressive shape with a very strong and energetic build. You can carve great on them while the rocker is ample enough for soft snow performance and smeary/playful skiing. Rustler does that as well, just not quite in the same level of energy or power. Paragon is more directional than either, with a flatter tail but a floaty and surfy shovel. When engaged on the edges, the Paragon is a very smooth and predictable performer. Soul 102 feels more peppy and zesty than the other skis on your list, just without the high performance ceiling.

The Paragon has two full sheets of metal while the Declivity has one partial laminate. Despite that, the shovel shape of the Paragon is still a bit more playful and freeride-oriented than the Armada with a lot of taper. The Armada has more tail rocker and taper, so overall, the Armada is better suited to softer snow while the Paragon is smoother and more precise.

@@SkiEssentials I have similar stats to Steve. My current skis are Head Rev 90 177cm and Blizzard Magnum CA 8.0 172cm. I do like spirited carving short or long arc but with these skis I have become much more leery of the bumps, and I used to love them. These skis just seem to take too much focus on technique in the to get through the bumps and that really takes the fun away, also neither really wants to float in powder. The Blizzards are fun to carve! I consider myself an advanced skier but I am finding anymore I don't want to drive the ski 100% of the time, especially off-piste (I don't do parks). Really only get to ski once a year anymore either in CO or UT so it's time for a new do-it-all ski. I have watched a ton of your videos,,,,, the best ones out there by the way!,,, but it is still a daunting rabbit hole. It would be one thing if I could demo every ski I thought would be on a short list but most shops never seem to have what I want to try. - I want something that carves well (will spend 70+% of my time here) it doesn't have to be fast edge to edge but the arc does need to be drivable by controlling weight transfer and edge angle - Predictable grip in icy / very hard pack - Cadillac like properties in the crud and medium speeds - And ease in the bumps, something that damn near drives itself. 🙂 I am looking in the mid 90 to low 100 under foot range to help with float. Short list skis not in any order; Stance 96 or 102, QST 98 or 106, Ripstick Black 102, Sender Soul 102, Kore 99, Paragon 101, ZX 100, Black Ops 98, Ranger 102, and Justice. Top 3 out of these? My opinion is no, I currently have daylied a Justus for two seasons now and I got a 177. I’m 6’0 and 225. I am a hard charging skier, and I can absolutely over ski the 177 and I regretted not getting the 184. The 177 are plenty strong , but I feel like I have to balance on them. On edge/linking carves they are fantastic bc of the lack of early taper, but I can over leverage them from a fore/aft perspective at bigger edge angles and higher speeds 40+ bc I just don’t have enough length. When I ski them flat in bumps or slush or pow, I feel like my center sweet spot is too small for my height. When I am in the sweet spot they again are amazing exactly what I wanted from them, but i really have to concentrate on staying there, and I find that more difficult in more technical terrain. I love these skis and picked up a pair of 184s for this season recently exactly bc I was originally hesitant sizing up from where I normally ski a 180 when I bought these 2 seasons ago. Highly recommend these skis they have are exactly what I wanted I just didn’t give myself enough room for type of skiing I like to do, just don’t size down like I did. I would go 177 for your height and if your used to skiing 180s.

3rd vote for the 184. I'm 6' 200lb and ski the 184. It is not an overpowering ski whatsoever. It's the most fun ski I own. I certainly wouldn't want to size down. Just because it has 2 sheets of TI in it, doesn't mean it's for a bigger skier and should be sized down. They're substantially lighter than your M Free 108s. It's just stiffer so you'll need to stay more active on the Justice

I think I've settled at a Ranger 96 for an east coast daily driver but would like some advice on the uphill side. Sounds good to me! Ranger is very versatile and well-rounded for all-mountain skiing. Ripstick with a Shift makes good sense for soft snow and uphill days for sure. If you're looking for me to talk you out of it, then I'd take a Salomon Stance 96 for eastern daily and then a Head Kore 105 for pow/uphill.

I currently own a pair of the 2024 Fischer Ranger 102's and fear they might not be the best ski for me. I purchased the 183CM and think they are a little heavier and less maneuverable than I expected, particularly in trees/moguls where I want to whip the ski around tight turns. I spend some time at Stowe and Jackson Hole every year and have started to consider selling the Ranger 102's and thinking about other options. Really focused on getting a "1 ski quiver" and hoping the DPS $1,600 price tag is not the only option. Thoughts on a few options here?

Nope, you have to get the $1600 DPS! Just kidding--there's tons of great skis in this range, especially if you're looking for a light and agile ski that still holds up in a carved turn. I like the Head Kore 99, Kastle ZX 100, and Blizzard Rustler 10 for this application.

Looking for a wider powder-oriented ski for this season in interior BC with decent snowfall, something I can take back to New Zealand and be fine in heavier/chopped snow. I skied the X 108 this past season in a snowy day and loved it. It's a straighter cut than it used to be so prefers a more aggressive take on the fall line. That said, it's about as smooth and predictable as it gets. On the more playful side but still sturdy, check out the Nordica Unleashed 108--a better turning ski than the Declivity and you can go 186 in that ski.

Another great video with a lot of information! I'm currently have some 2019 Fischer Ranger 102's FR's in a 177cm that I use as my one ski quiver at Snowbird UT. I'm a 155 lbs 5'11" advanced skier, have been skiing for 30+ years. I have really enjoyed the Rangers but looking for a ski that can handle crud a little better at high speed and a little more stable on high speed groomers, still needs to perform on those 12"+ powder days. What would you recommend and what length? I'm currently considering the Enforcer 99 in a 179 or 185, Declivity X 102 in a 180, Mantra M7 in a 177 or 184 and finally the Mantra 102 in a 177 or 184. You're in the right zone here as all of those skis will do most of what you're looking for. I'd say the Declivity X 102 is your best floater, but it's also going to be more similar to your Ranger in terms of crud and stability. If you're looking for a mix, I think Enforcer 99 is an awesome option. The Mantras aren't quite as floaty as the Nordica, and while they may operate better in a carving format, I do think the Enforcer is the most useful here on your list. I'd say 179 is the length here for your stats and application.

How would you separate Declivity 102x, 102ti and Justis? 6'4 200 pounds, something for Japan as a true allrounder. Groomers, chopped up afternoons, bit of deep powder but have others for the true bottomless mornings. Also sizing, do they get too gnarly in the biggest sizes of each? Or with the Justis having so much rocker can you go long for float but without the contact length getting too long?

I think the X 102 and the Justis are two of the best and most complete skis for 2025. The Justis is a bit better of a turner, but it does come at the cost of stiffness and noisiness. The X 102 is smoother and quieter, especially vs. the 102 Ti from last year. I find it hard to argue against the Justis, but the X 102 may put up a good fight. I don't think the Declivity in the 188 is nearly as burly as the Justis in the 189. I'm 6/2 225 and love the Justis in the 183 but would get Declivity in the 188.

I think the Justis is a blend of all the positive attributes of the Enforcer and the Declivity. The only potential downside (depending on preference) is that it's on the demanding side like the Enforcer and not quite as friendly as the Declivity. For everyday skiing, I think the Declivity has a whole lot to offer but if you are more of a pedal to the metal type skier, I'd lean to the Enforcer/Justis. Of those, the Nordica is denser and stronger with more confidence, but a little less zip and energy than the Justis.
