Thursday was 12cm & Friday was 4cm, so 16cm over 2 days with wind & a fog detterent, so it wasn't too trashed in the alpine. I was surprised how smooth it was up top. It was wet mist below 1600m. Stay high. 😜

Not sure if they will be able too with the lack of ice and snow.

Some food for thought brother... Your group threaded right between me and my squad on the last few metres of ascent on the way up to East Col on a wind loaded piece of terrain under a cornice. You skinned through our group and then directly above us without a word (or thought?) about if that was okay with us or not. You can see us in your video. It might be Blackcomb Mountain and one of the most well traveled pieces of terrain in the sea to sky but that felt to all of us like poor backcountry etiquette. We discussed and gave you guys the benefit of the doubt that you wouldn't do that anywhere else but there.... Still though, worth a moment of reflection for your consideration.....

Hey Drew, sorry about that. We have all been up that skin track many times and have never seen it slide in the 25 years of living here so we may have a bit of complacency. That being said we were comfortable with doing that and didn’t feel like we or your group were at risk and if we did we would have never done that. Sorry we made your group uncomfortable that was not our intentions and I should have asked if it was ok to skin ahead of you and your group. I don’t take skiing in the backcountry lightly as being safe and coming home is the #1 priority.Sorry once again and enjoy your winter.

How long of a hike is that? Going in March and trying to eye up some runs.
@stanrey7 Жыл бұрын
From the bottom of East Col its pretty quick probably around 30 minutes but now you have to start at the bottom of showcase T-bar so it adds another 20 likely. Id say between 45 to an hour to get up there!

Do not go alone and without proper avalanche training & knowledge & gear. Whistler SAR, Squamish SAR, Pemberton SAR, & North Shore SAR are getting more calls based on sheer stupidity rather than legitimate accidents.

Im hoping by Mid March everything will be open, I definitely do not have the knowledge or the gear so if it is more of a backcountry situation I will pass.@@misterfunnybones

The next time I hear some self satisfied "expert" use the term "powder" to describe fresh snow on a coastal mountain I'm going to...well I don't know what, but I'm going to do it...somehow. FYI WE DO NOT - EVER, GET "POWDER" SNOW ON ANY COASTAL MOUNTAIN! The term "powder" describes the type of snow that falls in areas which are consistently dry. That does not, by the way, describe any part of Canada's west coast. The snow we get is the stuff of snowballs. You can't make a snowball out of powder snow. True, we on coastal mountains can get lots of fresh snow, but it is not "powder." That doesn't mean it is not good skiing...but it is not the type that easily blows over your head as you ski through a fresh fall, even at a considerable height. If you want to"powder" snow go to the interior, or better yet, Alberta. Though now a non-skier I have an abundance of ski experience including work assisting pro-patrols on a number of ski hills (I'm a physician), helicopter skiing and multiple ski area travels...a wonderful way of enjoying the ski experience. But, I did discover, the type of skiing I LOVED required a fair amount of money, a flexible medical practice, and a willingness to tolerate an essentially "single man" life. When I met a gal I fell in love with within 5 minutes of laying eyes on her that life was over. She too retired, immediately, from her life as an Olympic athlete...and we had a family. Skiing remains the most enjoyable sporting activity I've ever experienced. And to those of you who still participate I wish you all of the best snow conditions, and all of the best weather (I actually enjoyed skiing while it was still snowing)...and the best ski buddies you can find...but for power go to dry areas...and ski your asses off. I'll try not to cry as I recall my own experiences...♥️

Totally agree. Whistler weather is so unpredictable and snow coverage is unstable. And even when it is snowing, it is not a powder snow as it is heavy. I arrived yesterday afternoon and did not go skiing. And today oh my! It is pouring cats and dogs non stop!! And it will be like this few days. ((( For powder skiing better go to Japan. I was there ones, in Hokkaido. It was a blast!

@@totoandtutu Hello there friend of mine. May you find GOOD skiing wherever you choose to ski... I'll be thinking of you as my wife (look up the term "Brill Bend" and you'll know who I'm referring to) and I look back on our younger lives, shake our heads while laughing, and take great delight at where we are, physically, emotionally...and all other parameters of importance...while living on almost an acre of flower and produce garden...and a view of the mountains and the ocean...poor us... Oh, yeah...I have a recording studio where I write and record original rock music (with a bit of jazz and country on occasion)...sorry, I'll stop complaining...
