That brings back great memories of a couple of great days there. Bar U-E lift in the trees. I still hope to return there.

Nice vid. Flying out there in a couple days with our kids. It's their first time out west and being on an actual mountain. After my first visit to Steamboat years and years ago, I said I wanted to bring my kids out there and it's finally happening. My wife thinks it's funny how excited I am for them, but I can't wait. It's going to ruin skiing/snowboarding in Michigan for them though. I figure it may be busy Sat/Sun, but our last day on Monday should be great.

I am also from Michigan and a family vacation to Colorado when I was 13 started a trend of visiting big mountain resorts annually through adulthood. Now I live in Colorado and I remember fondly that first trip as magical. You may or may not have realized what an impact this experience might have been for your kids. Yes, it ruined MI skiing but I still held season passes at Alpine Valley and eventually Mt. Brighton and had a blast with my friends there. But I was always thinking of my next trip west. Your kids may be future Coloradans now and you'll have somewhere awesome to visit when you come to see them. I hope the trip was great!

how's the snow in mid december? we normally hit up Breck, but it's just been getting out of hand.. however given altitude i'm thinking probably best for early season skiing.. don't have our normal options for travel this year, so trying new places. thanks and great vid

Breck / A basin are usually a safer bet in mid December, but it varies wildly year to year. At that time of year it's probably better to optimize for exploring a new town or planning activities other than skiing, as there is usually only a small amount of terrain open at every resort.

"Don't tell anyone about Steamboat, it's a secret!" *proceeds to create a video talking about Steamboat and then posts it to social media lol*

Indeed, that was the joke - coupled with the subsequent shot of the gigantic lift lines.

Steamboat is on the top of most Beginner Resort and Family/Kid Friendly Resort lists so it gets plenty of publicity. Not a hidden gem by any means.

Lift ticket prices are high for a reason. Thank your local trial lawyers! That's who gets the money!! Not ski company shareholders

This is not true. Legal and insurance fees are not material to ski areas financial health. Right from Vail Resort 10k: "the accruals for such loss contingencies (excluding the employment-related litigation) were not material individually or in the aggregate."
