Went for a " romantic " few days in Richmond last a while ago - stayed at the Richmond Hill. How could I not stray over Twickenham and D&M tools - like the Eldorado of tools, a place that I had always wanted to go to. Dropped my Wife off at some boring garden nearby, and off I went . You get a double dose of toolshop at Twickenham as Machine Mart is right nextdoor to D&M . Sorry to have missed the Autumn show - though I am pretty much retired - there's always that little devise/tool that you know you can't do without .

It's insane that the only time you get to really see tools in the UK is at a trade fair. I was in Brussels today, and walked past a fabulous shop, well I didn't walk past I went in, but I hadn't known it was there, and they had EVERYTHING! Whole racks of Bessy, Milwaukee, Knipex and the rest. CIPAC Sint-Gillis, Chau. de Waterloo. I really recommend it if you are in the area. I live in London. I don't know any shop here you can just walk in and see all that stuff and buy it right there.

Not gonna lie, I’m no longer impressed with ‘online prices’ - the aggro of waiting around for deliveries, problems etc just aren’t worth the 20 quid or so saving. I go to my local tool supplier, actually see and feel what I’m buying, grab a coffee and pay the guys their money. I don’t charge ‘online prices’ to my customers so I don’t see why I should insist on them. Support your local merchants!

I know Ryobi gets a bit of a bad rep, but the battery skeleton gun for glues, mastic and silicone is the single best tool for making easy joints or glue laydowns ever. I've never used a manual gun since I bought it.

The 16 5/16" beam saws (Skil Super Sasquatch is the one I have) are around $600 here in the US. They weigh about 30 lbs and will cut 6 1/4" lumber in one pass. They do feel strange when you first use them because the blade feels like it is turning very slowly.

I did order a couple obviously thinking they would take all tube sizes but the longest was just a bit too short, maybe because they are from Japan and their market.

Funny enough, we took a family trip to London some yrs ago and I wanted a day for myself while the wify and kids went shopping (Regent St.?). It happened I "ended up" in the D&M store in Twickenham - not knowing anywhere else to go ....

I use this gun and we just cut down the grip fill tubes to fit, I agree grip fill is crap but I only use in in the apprentices sandwiches, stops him yapping on all day

Ive got the Festool version of the Mafell saw they only sold it in the UK for about 12 months then they stopped selling it.

I was there on the Friday and found it to be the worse one ever went to buy a crosscut saw makita corded but although they had the cordless ones they didn’t have the corded Also went to buy the festool domino 500 but it was £40 more expensive than I can buy on line or even locally I questioned this with the festool guy who said DM control the prices but did offer me a baseball cap or a beanie if I purchased on the day … sorry guys I’ll spend my £950 elsewhere traveled 2 hours to this show nice walk round as we all love tools otherwise we wouldn’t be there but bargains I don’t think so

Agreed. D&M are local to me and they do have a lovely showroom in Twickenham but I only ever buy from them when I'm desperate as their pricing policy leaves a great deal to be desired.

Baby Tool Shop....Back in the not so far away days most building sites had Diesel Lister Saws running with bigger blades than that toy saw Dan lifted ..The Diesel Lister Saws had the "UFO " flying starter handles fitted. (or not fitted most of the time) Common practice for Starter handles to be stuck on the Saw spindle going round like the clappers. Have seen the handles come off and to be found two streets away in someone's attic floor right through the tiles on the roof. Have an old Makita 10 volt 9 inch saw in the shed and that looks big in comparison to many saws out now and a lot heavier. Wonder if there is money to be made in tools :)

@@SkillBuilder 😆👍🏻 I used some years ago, I forget the brand, it was for sealing the gap between block paving and plastic man hole covers, thick black mastic type of gear. I’m all for using less single use plastics, but sadly in this instance, silicone and caulks,adhesives etc, it’s the best way for transporting and storing. My top tip for keeping the nozzle fresh and I’ve tried all the tricks, I simply squeeze out some material and gently work it around the nozzle end sealing it fully. 3 weeks later simply pull it off and away you go. Works for me….
