Smoothies usually have crushed ice in them, so I'd say no, unless any added water to the ketchup started out as crushed ice. In that case if the water started out as crushed ice but no one watched it melt, did it really make a smoothie? 😜 JK, your point was well said.

Ah, yes, the all important "session zero." I usually do small group games, so session zero takes max 30 to 60 minutes - meaning there is often enough time to transition into session one and get right into the action. Character creation should never take more than 30 minutes. An experienced DM and player can get a PC ready to go in about ten minutes. With a group of people of various experience, this process can take more than an hour to get everyone up to speed. (I'll also point out here that it is a good idea to let players know about this fact before the game starts so they know what they are getting in to.) Lastly, character creation and other session zero tasks can be made more fun by incorporating more story elements or more game playing feel. The way I do it is give each player about five minutes to explore the options and pick a name/ race/ class/ alignment, then we start adventuring immediately: there is a battle or other exciting challenge to start off with a bang. Any other stats or skills can be determined as needed as players think of what to do. This gets the game started faster, gets players more into a role-playing mode instead of a stat using mode, and then details like equipment, skills, spells can be figured out during a break or between game sessions if running a multiple adventure campaign.

13:49 We do things differently.. we can say I want to make an X cheek(unless it's insight) we want to say what we want to accomplish and the DM tells us whether or not to roll or what... Simple things are done without rolling at all simply to keep the flow of the game...

So, as a DM, when I have numbers set for people to do checks and see if they pass, is it bracketed? Like, if they roll a 1, would I give them false information? Whereas, if they roll a 10, would I give him just a little bit of information? Or is it just if you get a certain number or higher you get the information that you're hoping for? Do I need to prepare check answers for every single encounter and possibility that my players will ask for?
@ArcaneForge
@ArcaneForge 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Emily! You can certainly put it in a bracket if you'd like. The rules are loosely designed for an "if your players reach or beat this number, they succeed", but there are loads of ways to do it. I tend to let my players know something or "soft succeed" if they're a little off but not far. The best way to do it in my option, rather than preparing a list of answers is to have a list of "standard difficulties", like "5 is easy, 6 is more challenging, 10 is difficult, 15 is really hard" etc. That way, your players just succeed or fail. I'll cover this in a video fairly soon though because this is a great topic and I'd like to approach this from a few different angles! Thanks so much for commenting and for watching!

Found this video when looking for an explanation for the difference between Charisma saves, Wisdom saves, and Intelligence saves. To summarize: A Cha save is meant to represent the strength of your sense of self and identity An Int save is meant to represent strength of your reasoning and memory (and how resistant you are to things that damage those) A Wis save is meant to represent the power of your personal experience on the way you operate as a person

Two points 1) I like the details and explanations in this video very much (grade A). 2) The soundtrack is very annoying and distracting (grade D-). Could the original source video be found and re-editted and re-posted without the music??

Hello there all ! I'd like to get your ideas on a specific skill check tweak that I applied in my game recently (at the start of the campaign), and that is that, you get to choose whether you'll use your athletics or acrobatics modifier for climbing and jumping (nothing else, just these two) to make our urban based campaign more felxible with assasin's creed style escapes from the guards, since most of the party is playing rogue (2 rogues, 1 ranger, some more people will get in soon, though I doubt they'll get "nimble" characters) and giving points to strenght as a rogue makes little sense most of the time (in addition we rolled for stats rather than using point buy) thus making nimble prince of persia/assasin's creed vibes impossible for most of the time. The question is, have I broken the game by doing this? So far I've not encountered any problems, but I don't know if I will at some point.
@ArcaneForge
@ArcaneForge 6 жыл бұрын
This sounds like a cool idea, Okyanus. I think the rules on Athletics VS acrobatics are weirdly rigid and also the two most frequently confused. I even do it in this video at one point! I tend to let players tell me if they think a skill is applicable. I generally draw the line at someone trying to scale something, being an athletics check, and trying to avoid harm from a fall being acrobatics. Ultimately though, if it makes sense to you as a GM, and your players have agreed to the conditions for the game, then that's how it works for you! I'd do something similar! Let me know if you encounter any problems along the way. This otherwise seems like a fine solution! Cheers for watching and for taking the time to comment!

Really good descriptions of each ability and skill, but I disagree on strength: you mention perseverance for strength, but perseverance should always be constitution. Strength is brute physical force. Doing a single (physically) difficult thing is Str. Doing something physically difficult many times or for a long time is Con.

You know what, mdiem; even when I was saying it, I was thinking "...am I describing Con?", Maybe I need to figure out how to make those little popup annotation things on videos and correct that one. Thanks so much for your compliments though, and for watching.
