In this video I go over the Skill Tree for beginners in Star Trek Online. Understanding and getting your skill tree right is very important in putting to getting a great build. There are many different ways to configure your skills for different builds, I will going over a general config for Tactical players.

The Boff training parts od the ground skill tree add the choosen training manual to your R&D crafting manual section, so you can craft this manual Rank III on your own.

To add to this in the space skill tree on the nodes you can't choose it will show the space bridge officer skills you've unlocked for crafting.

You can also buy these skills from the exchange. I don't use turrets on BO anymore. But I ready don't use these skills anymore. I use Event, Lockbox, and Specialization skills for my endgame BO. I am also a crafter.

Super helpful! Returning player from 2016 and apparently I'd never spent any point from my lvl 50 character on skills. Now I have! 🤣Going through the rest of your beginner guides too.

I like the idea that you do a lot of your videos for newer players. It tells me that the game is not dying. And I say that because I have seen my fleet go from 152 to 55 players. The vast majority of them just not logging in for 90 days or more

You have the 👍, but i like to make a tiny correction, skill tree-projectiles, that includes not just the torpedos, but mines, and everything which has not energy based damage, like the Tzen-Tar trait, the Automated aggression, and some experimental weapons.

Video request here : Any chance for a sub-series of videos dealing with the ships with specialization seatings (Intel , Engineering , Pilot , etc.) , and breaking it down further to which specialization powers are good / harmonize with which professions (tac-eng+sci) ? I'm asking from the angle of pretty much just having used Intel ships , and having ignored any & all other Specializations as I knew nothing about them and almost no other Specialization power made it to me as a "recommendation" . So I'm curious as to what's out there that is noteworthy , and for what profession / purpose ? Thanks . :)

I really wish they'd change the skill tree back to the way it used to be.... Select all the items you want and confirm at the bottom. It's extremely annoying to have to confirm each selection.

What would you say to the idea of taking the last point out of long range sensors (captain) and putting it in warp core efficiency (admiral) instead because it gives you the next engineering bonus while not losing you the science one since you're one past.. or is the benefit of long range sensors just that much better than warp core plus the engineering bonus? I don't know enough of the crunchy stuff to work it out

Can somone pls verify that the "readiness" skills dont work? i tested it on multiple characters and it changes nothing to the cooldown!

Really depends on your other cooldown methods. For a full Aux2Bat, Photonic Officer II, or the Boemler trait cooldown method, Readiness isnt going to have much of an effect. If you use something like the Prolonged Engagement 2-piece plus Bio-Neural Gel Packs plus Chrono-Capacitor Array, then Readiness skill add to the rest for a decent passive cooldown management system. So if you are going for one of the more traditional, "meta" cooldown methods, you can skip Readiness or maybe drop a point into each. If you are going for an Ultimate, you might dump some into Readiness for that career. That's more of an aside to your question though.

The skill tree is not as annoying as it used to be but it is still very annoying because 1) the descriptions are misleading and 2) they've tweaked things enough that old advice that used to be good is now terrible advice.

Of course, you'll probably want to drop the hull plating once you are sufficiently leveled and geared, especially if you plan on ever doing EPG builds on the character.

Does tactical readiness do anything if you're running 2x aux2bat. If not would it not be better to just fill out defensive manuvering? Even though it does very little at least its doing something.... 🤷 2x aux2bat (with 3 purple technicians) would max out your cool downs anyway. Then likewise further all don't I only need two ranks of focus frenzy? Since one reduces bridge officer cooldowns?

No it does not, but if you want the tac ultimate then you need to fill in the points. It's still worth it but not for the readiness.

@@MCStu You are unquestionably the man. Also You def do not need the ultimate. You can pick the options for focus frenzy in any order so you can drop the Boff cool down option. I'm running and unorthodox BO set up with Gravimetric Torp and Terran for the 2 piece because the barbie makes me happy and I'm getting proton damage anyway from some console. So I took 2 defensive maneuvering. Took one point out of engines some where... and re-allocated 2 points into EPG. Could have taken one less Core potential but I figure the extra Aux power and 5 vs 8 engine power is nbd especially since I'm running em-pilot doff. Most of my power goes to wep obviously. But not 125 (It stays max with energy weapons 5 phaser and KKB) and I have power in Shields, which sounds crazy. But since they made "Shield Absobtive Frequency Genarator" (one of the mogi available for dil)available on every ship I can shield tank NP. If I run BO or SS no matter what my shields never stay down now. When below 90% shields 2.5% chance 200% damage goes back to shields + RSPIII. Made my glass cannon an absolute tank. Console deserves more love for sure. Borg drain me then they instantly refill. I'm always doing enough damage to refill on a one shot. On your Odessy and my ALT Excelsior / Engineer (FAW) and my ALT CSV K'tinga, or my main TAC Defiant CSV it's completely broken. Broken, dude BROKEN. SHIELDS WORK AGAIN because they tired to damage. But you might have so many better consoles than I do It's less worth it for you. Also (side note) from the Akiras the phaser point defense cannon console is universal now too and the real hero, the torp console. If you have a photon build it throws a torp spread volley at everyone in 10km. It's very good on a Photon build. Also needs some love. There is little in the game a satisfying as dropping a Grav Torp spread on a cluster of enemies and then slapping that clicky and dropping another torp spread immediately after.

Let me start with asking: Good for a Sci toon or Sci build? You would want to put 3 points in EPG and at least one in control. Take 3 out of Admiral Tac and one out of Lieutenant Tac energy weapons. If you DM me on discord I will sent you a pic of me Sci skill tree.

This is a crafting question related to R&D. I am stuck. I want a Phaser Omni and have crafted all the components. I click to build the Omni XII, and there is no Officer available (doesn't even name type). The wiki tells me I need an Energy Weapons Officer and I have a purple who is not slotted into either space or ground. The duty officer is available and not on another mission. After leveling up to 15 in beams, gathering R&D materials, buying duty officers to craft R&D materials, crafting R&D materials. I can't make an Omni with the level, the officer, and the materials? What the hell?

You need to make sure that you have a Doff where they're info lists an R&D schooling specifically for Beam Weapons. A list of all the various R&D Doffs is at sto.fandom.com/wiki/Duty_officers_by_R%26D_school

Good review... But not really for beginners... I believe you knowledge and experience is bending your view to high end game. I mean your beginner build is more high DPS glass cannon. A new player will die so fast he will hate his experience.
