I have passed CFA level 1, I have Bachelor in Accounting & financial modeling certification. Can you give any tips, bro? Thank you

I'm not sure about international perspectives, but in the US a very common way of making a transition from any field into IB is to get an MBA. I would look to see if there's an equivalent path wherever you're working!

Hey Bryan I have a question where I hope you could maybe help me with. I've done an internship in an M&A Boutique and I did not once do a valuation and I also rarely saw the analyst doing anything in that direction. However, I really like valuation and it is one of the reasons why I want to go into Investment Banking. Now my question is how technical the work actually is in an analyst position. Are you working on valuations often? How is the percentage? Like 20% valuation 80% marketing material? Does it maybe depend on whether you're working in an MM boutique or BB?
@TheBryanJun4 жыл бұрын
I think this is a great thing to consider when you're choosing a job in banking. This varies greatly across firm and industry group. I'd say it's probably not hard to find a position that's definitely more valuation oriented - I will say that at the entry level you're going to begin by doing a lot of marketing material and what may be the "non-sexy" stuff, but if you're enjoying valuation and have a talent for it, I'm certain you can find a position that's heavily weighted in that direction.

Awesome video and super insightful. Question for anyone in IB- are large scale presentations common? I'm great with people but when it comes to presentations with 10+ people, I get really nervous and do not speak well. I know this is a trait that can be picked up over time, and it's definitely something I should get used to, but I just wanted to know if it is a common thing. Thanks!
@TheBryanJun4 жыл бұрын
At the analyst level you're not necessarily presenting, but definitely in meetings with high level executives (VP's at least) you might be responsible for covering a slide or two - don't worry, it'll come with practice

How important is internship experience and having attended the right university to getting a graduate placement at an investment bank? My dad is a trader, having worked at multiple of the bulge bracket investment banks. He seems convinced that I can get a place if I keep applying but I have had no luck so fair, what's your opinion Bryan? I study Actuarial Science at a top ranked university for finance and accounting in the UK for a bit of context but its not a fancy named university.
@TheBryanJun4 жыл бұрын
I think internship / target school are pretty huge factors, however I've definitely seen people do it from all sorts of backgrounds. If you can craft the right story and network enough, you can get there.

I know this is a late comment I am a senior in high school going to a community college who has a interest in pursuing finance, more specifically investment banking and private equity I plan on transferring to a UC in California or SMU in Texas, if I don’t go to a target school would it be easier to get an MBA And try to get an interview at an IB during my MBA, idk how this works and trying to figure it out so help would be nice, Thankyou

it really comes down to when you're transferring as more opportunities come during sophomore year - my understanding is that SMU is a semi-target and some UC's are as well1

MEMORY is what got me laid off on my last AP job. The company hired 2 of us and other girl (indian wiz kid) could remember EVERYTHING! I was writing down a lot of procedures and she literally just had the gift of remembering everything that was said even if it was 2 weeks ago. I also kinda blame drinking on the weekends and being hung over but lesson learned. She edged me out of the job over time and the company could see how gifted she was, the company was cool enough to lay me off and offered to give me a letter or recommendation for the next job. So many lessons learned.
