Amazing how men can work in the squat position for hours on end. Not here in USA; I worked stell mills as a welder for a few years when I was young. Hard hats, saftey shoes, quotas, unions, lunchrooms; nothing like this. These workers are true artisans. 5 Stars++

I think you are mistaken about that. Who said anything about Alpha? Why throw that in the mix when it has nothing to do with the issue.? Beats me.I worked in a steel mill in the union; they would not allow you to do more than 11.2 hours on piecework. "Are you trying to ruin the rates?" union boss asked me. "Get lost for two hours a night I don't care where" he said. Is that Alpha? I don't knkow what you mean. These guys are doing that kind of work with almost nothing, It's not about what you live but how you live that matters in the end, no matter if you live to be sixty or ninety.@@HydroSnips

I’m a 22 year old blacksmith the amount of time I spend squatted down hammering on my anvil in a day would cripple a middle aged man least I never need to hit leg day tho

Interesting video I was a professional blacksmith for years and made mostly 18th century knives and axes I made lots of axes , unlike these folks I did it mostly by hand. No power hammers or electric forge blowers. Most of the axes were made out of sections or old wrought iron forge welded together with a steel cutting bit welded in. Got the wrought iron from old buggy wheels or strap hinges and just used old files for the steel bit

Amazing how a talented smith can turn lump of iron into a useful tool without computer controlled machines. The steel hardening step is probably the most tricky. Wonder how many blades it took the smith to get the moved right.

The handle support looks great but would be actually useful if it was reversed (on the front side of the handle) and would then transfer the blow to the handle and even protected the handle from misses.

Look at an axehandle its wider under the eye thats to keep it from snapping off backwards which is what that support is for , ik wym tho ive snapped them off missing but not often these arent for wood though

How do you break big bars of steel like that? I tried it myself beacause i have thick leaf springs. I tried making notches, weak points, welding, everything. It never broke. Is the steel quality poor and therefore brittle? Or is there a precise technique to weaken the steel?

Yes that grain structure of that steel is huge and is a very brittle material, I would say not suitable for an axe, especially that thin. But they make those out of whatever they can find over there. Leaf spring steel is one of the toughest ones you'll mess with when forging. Its typically 52100 or some alloy of sorts. I would cut that leaf spring slow with a metal saw or use a angle grinder and cut off disc or several

@@joshyingling european leaf springs are hard and tough, and not brittle at all. I tried hitting my weakened spring with everything i had, it wouldn't break. So i either use an angle grinder or i heat up to white hot and hot cut a piece

It is a type of malleable cast iron. These are very bad products. If they put a steel plate on the blade it could be decent. But these are not axes, these are garbage

Very good skills, but my feeling says this will not do an hard job like splitting wood. Or any we do with an axe. Because the hardening from this steel is bad . Even the tempering. . Maybe this is for some special work ? Can any help ?

I don’t understand what metal they make it from. At the very beginning it looked like malleable cast iron. The method of quenching in water, metal tempering is not performed. And why do you need such an ax? But on a pneumatic hammer they work very well

What is the raw steel? When it is "cut" by a quick weld and then a strike with a hammer it is brittle and crystalline, a strange material to make an axe from!

It may have been heat treated and thus hardened steel.

The practice of sitting on the ground and doing any domestic job cooking, eating etc etc is a common practice among Indians...it is healthy to sit on the floor as much as possible....even traditional money lenders, jewellery dealers sit on the floor with a cushion bed of say 5 or 6 inches height and transact crores of business
